    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/aviation-giant-turkish-airlines-eyes-cork-flights-370253.html

Why does the article not inspire hope that this actually will happen?

Two weekly Istanbul - Dublin flights :pac:
I would personally think that IST - ORK - SNN - IST service would work quite well, similar to their Billund/ Aarhus service.

I suspect it's just a spiel that was used yesterday by Turkish to say while they were in cork for the real story which is the training deal with AFTA. Maybe something will come out of it, but it was probably just a few nice words thrown in about cork and Ireland at a time when everybody wanted to smile for the camera and exchange niceties.

Not long until the CAA stats are out? Will be interesting to see how much Heathrow/Stansted/Gatwick fell and how much LCY picked up outside of that.

Expect they should be out presently

I fear it could be a route too far. 4 routes out of Cork is a bit much even for London. It is a pity because IMO it would be the easist way to central London. The cost of sterling is'nt helping either at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,508 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

IMHO the airport should really try to keep the LCY route, even if its at the expense of frequency of an existing London route.

Well, it will be up to us the paying public who decides.

They're already out, Heathrow up by 1% in November, Gatwick and Stansted down by 3/4% I think, roughly 4,800 passengers on LCY-ORK can't remember the exact figure.

    Gatwick 9759 LF: 86% (NOV 2014 : 10085, Loss of 326)
    Heathrow 29502 LF: 71% (NOV 2014: 29165, Gain of 337)
    Stansted 24453 LF: 72% (NOV 2014: 25450, Loss of 997)

Not too much of a change, Heathrow actually grew. Loss of 986 Passengers.

London City 4887 LF: 30% Very very poor performance.

Actual LF'S will be a little higher, cancellations not taken into account.

Figures are disappointing thought it might have bought down heathrows figures a wee bit but I think timing might have something to do with it as well. It started in october slap bang in the middle of the world cup so that would have taken a chunk of potential passengers..then run up to christmas..current curency exchanges would impact the shoppers markets think it needs longer to settle in and then see..

Loads on most flights are between 20-30 pax, it picked up a few weeks after the route started to 60-70 for a while during the rugby world cup, but the last few weeks have been rubbish. Not sure how long more it's sustainable for for Cityjet, unless the number go up soon there's no way they can make any money on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭lisasimpson

How many times a day is the flight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 761 ✭✭✭Lustrum

3 daily during the week, one on a Saturday and 2 on a Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭lisasimpson

No offense to cork im all for more flights from cork feed up of heading to dub for flights bit is there really a market for what 7 if not more daily flight from cork to london?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,480 ✭✭✭highlydebased

From the second week of January to March they have pulled the midday flight on Tues Weds and Thurs and no Saturday flight at all! Though the Thursday flight remains the odd week. Also I see fares to London of 13.65 one way which considering includes luggage is quite a steal

Don't Cityjet have any Fokkers lying around these days? Four or so are in their possession and could be swapped one some flights which are particularly empty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭lisasimpson

I noticed that a few days ago the sat flight was gone.surprise if all flights the sat one is gone.was planning a treat to myself of a trip to the west end go 1st sat come back sun nights. Id say twice daily during the week would propably be more realistic for them

Are J1s even a thing anymore ? I thought they were more or less done away with at this stage!

Just under 10,000 students every Summer is still a fair size.

New rules have been introduced for Summer 2016 which require J1 applicants to have secured an approved job before travelling to the US. The impact of this measure is yet to be ascertained, however combined with the strong dollar one can only assume that the numbers travelling in Summer 2016 with at least reduce by a small degree.

youll still have a good few travelling on them for the "right of passage" plus still are still a few who head to new York/boston to hurl over there. I know in my own county of students when they are knocked out of the championship at home going over. summer would have been the ideal time for the route to get going but I don't hold much hope for the route in 2016 at this stage

The J1 will be a lot more work and less fun. There's a lot of political pressure coming on about work permits in the US at the moment and the J1 became fairly controversial with Trump calling for it to be scrapped entirely. It'll have knock on effects for American students travelling in Europe too though as those agreements are all reciprocal. Something right wing insular types never consider.

So for aviation it could impact thousands of seats both ways and not just here.
