As getting that recall done would be a very bad call.

Is the recall damaging to the car or something?

Bought 8 liters of fully synthetic 5w30 for less than €30 in Halfords. That's the next service sorted! And on top of that, my oil consumption has been tiny lately. The I6 engines in the likes of mine are notorious for drinking a bit of oil at higher mileage, but mines been a little beauty for the last year. Woohoo.

Very cool. That, or something similar was a production car IIRC.

Well absolutely best case scenario there are no changes worst case scenario your going to end up with reduced performance or higher fuel consumption or both. As if there was no benefit to doing the cheating in the first place VAG wouldn't have bothered and just let the system work they didn't do it for the laugh it was to improve fuel consumption or power.

Plus lets not forget they are starting up a NOx system that has lied dormant in the cars for years which could cause reliability issues. So that's a lot of risk to take for the best case scenario the car is not worse than it was before. They have to add an extra filter to some of the engines during the recall tbh it's all trouble. I would be leaving well enough alone. Even when left alone the cars are still at least meeting Euro 3 emissions standards so it not like they are putting out dangerously high levels of NOx.

*Nearly* got caught by a go safe this evening. Red go safe vans are hard to spot in the night. One hiding on the downhill outside of Bunclody. Quick glance in the mirror and jam on the anchors. Was only about 10 over the limit but still, 3 points is a lot

In the mirror? Does that mean you shot by him and then noticed him? Surely you're done for, so?

Although that said, I was convinced I was done, not too long ago, and so far, nothing has come of it:

    So you never know.

Probably because the guy in the GoSafe van was only setting up the operation and the camera wasn't actually detecting speeders yet.

Same thing happened to me. I flew by a speed van on the N7 and I was convinced I will get done.

This happened back in June and still nothing!

Which oil was it? I didn't see any BMW spec one on offer?

Yeah I was thinking it was the Ford one but I'm not sure does that meet the BMW LL Spec.

I'd rather get 5L Hypalube from Micks for €16.95 :P

Closest Halfords to me is ~40 KM :(

Uh oh.... I'm sure a few buckled rims may feature too!!

It's the pink halfords own brand 5w30 that I use. BMW LL 01 is what I use. It'll take LL 01 or 04. Been using it for years, no issues thus far!

I've been kept busy this evening building an airfix that my brother bought me for Christmas. It's a small Spitfire, supposedly easy... Fook me it took ages. And so many pieces don't fit together without a lot of messing!

    Nice work.

The moulds for those kits are so old that they're just gone to **** to build and fit together.

Driving down to Wexford today - I should've taken a boat instead. So much water, everywhere.

Are you worried they might be bigger than your Honda? :p

Back in the big schmoke for Christmas and today brought the 156 out of temporary retirement! A fellow Alfa head with a fifty shades of red GTV had his car develop a worrying noise from the front suspension.

Oil change in the 156 and s too up of all the fluids and away she went!

He might be along later to talk about how terrible/brilliant it is...:D

Agreed. Mine won't be going near it. I do like getting the bus serviced at main dealer though, have all the stamps etc. If I brought it in for a service would they do the "fix" without my permission do you think?
