Here, so for a (paid) retest on a car do they go through the whole test or just the bit it failed on?

Sunny is back up this weds on emissions and I honestly don't remember what they do..

On a paid retest they only test the bits it failed on and also the bits they had to skip due to the failure.

I'd be handy on all those, and have a fetac specifically in CAD then done my degree using Revit. What do you do?

Teach the things! Well only Solidworks. I have any amount of bits and bobs drawn up.

Any of ye that did DCG for the leaving, it's a tap this year.

I did a lectern for my DCG.

    Are you teaching DCG?

Well it only failed on emissions (despite passing exactly two weeks previous) and I recall them going through the whole test. The tester definitely spent an age looking at it on the ramp for ages at the end

Yeah indeed. It was a nice enough project. SolidWorks and the written brief were definitely my strongest part of DCG. I ended up souping up my lectern and adding a built in Windows 8 tablet :pac:

For anyone interested in buying a car second hand, or anyone who has a car that uses an indy mechanic, does a service history matter?

For example, the C5 i have is a 2009. It's at about (guessing) 180km on the clock. I reckon, when it comes time to sell, it'll be over 300k. (I actually reckon that it'll not be worth selling at that point, and that I'll end up keeping it and letting it die with me). But assuming I try to sell it on then, is a service history with an indy worth bothering with?

(although my opinion is that 300k will not be considered 'high mileage' in a couple of years, and will just become standard, as more and more cars show up with it. the amount of cars that are only a couple of years old with 'high mileage' on them is a sign of the motorway times we live in i suppose?)

I'll be doing 30-40k per year I'd guess, and i'll be servicing it every 10k. (so far it's had two services). Mechanic puts a sticker on the car in the door jamb. I also have a service book i got with the car with main dealer services on it (stamps etc). Is it worth adding my indy's services (and other work) to this?

My instinct is to think that an indy's work doesn't count, as, if i was buying your car off you, there's nothing to say that your indy is:
    1) not actually a mechanic, or
    2) just filling up your service history for the laugh, to help you sell the car, despite never even seeing the car in his workshop.

At the same time, I feel like it'd make sense to keep a record of it's history. Anyone have any opinion?

@KKV if the mechanic gives receipts keep them as proof and if you buy parts keep them receipts. But tbh if you plan on keeping the car that long your correct it won't be worth to much with 300k km on it especially when it's a 1.6 psa. Unfortunately most people consider that mad mileage. I recon even most think 200k km is very high and that it would make for a hard enough sale. I don't see the issue with writing in when it was services and what was done on the service book even for your own record or do up an excel to track when what was done as your intending on keeping it a long time.

A service history is just that. Who actually does the servicing doesn't really matter once its done right. Get your Indy to stamp the book. There's no reason why they can't.

Decided I'm going to retro-fit cruise control on the Focus. Normally you would have to replace the 3-spoke ST-style wheel with the horrible 4-spoke wheel that also comes in Mondeos but I found a radio control stalk on AliExpress that features the cruise control buttons.

    Steering-Wheel-Control-Buttons-Audio-Volume-Constant-Speed-Cruise-Control-switch-for-Ford-for-Focus-05.jpg

Checked the car just now and it has all the required wiring for cruise control including the switches on clutch and brake pedals!

Installing the stalk is like a 10 minute job and a matter of connecting 2 wires. Then I will need to activate CC in the ECU :)

...and about 10 hours trying to convince Ford that its possible to retrofit :pac: Look forward to seeing this work, do you have someone onside who'll activate it for you?

I will modify an ELM327 to be able to activate features using ELMConfig :)

I decided I won't be buying that cruise control stalk and instead modify the one I already have. The seller on AliExpress wants €70 for it :pac:

Found this diagram for the cruise control:

I've looked into that ELM mod and it looks handy out and cheap :D €70 for basically 5 tiny switches is robbery!

Yeah the ELM mod is easy, however I have a DS150 and the ELMConfig software seems to pick it up so I will probably try to connect the DS150 and see what happens.

If not the I can pick up an ELM327 for about a tenner and modify it :)

Haven't had a manual car in donkeys so never experienced cruise on one. Can't get my head around it tbh. It maintains speed obviously but do you have to shift up and down accordingly?

Never really knock on cruise unless I'm cruising in top tbh, most cars will pull cleanly from 50/60kph up the limit in top anyway. You can change gear on some cars with it, on others touching the clutch knocks it off.

I think the odd new car you can set the cruise control and let it accelerate and you mchange gears though most will knock of when you clutch meaning it's really only used when in the correct gear ie motorway 5th or 6th gear and set at what speed you want that's the only real time I use cruise control if I'm worried about being caught speeding around town or whatever I'll use the speed limiter which obviously changing gears stopping starting has no effect on.

Does your speed limiter stop the car going over a certain speed? Or just give a bong if you do?

It stops you going over the speed it displays the set speed on the top of the digital speedo and once you hit that the car won't exceed it. It has that safety feature that if you floor it, it will let you go over the set speed it will flash a few red lights at you to say your over it but no beeping.

I miss my old cruise control. It had it's own stalk and one pull back like a flash of the lights set it. I also liked that no lights on the dash cam on. Simples.

New car has lights on the dash and too many settings. Never use it now. Used to always use it.
