Also states that Brian Cody helping with U21's but i don't think that's true, is it?

That was just a random rumour. The County Board stated that he will have no involvement with the U-21 team.

Kilkenny and galway won't be participating in the walsh cup which is slightly disappointing for us kk supporters

It's not good for the team either. The panel would benefit from playing those matches. It was mentioned numerous times this year by Cody that not competing in the Walsh Cup (due to unforseen circumstances) was a disadvantage.

It's a surprise because its a good way to blood a few lads and it could of being used as a development squad but I'm sure there happy enough to concentrate on the league it's no big deal just a few die hards will be disappointed

They're actually better off with a few serious training sessions instead to be honest, with the college sides involved it's hardly high quality competition. I'd imagine having to face TJ Reid, Paul Murphy, Buckley or Mick Fennelly in training would be a bigger test.

Besides, they'll be just back from their well deserved holidays by then. Have a bit if a break and come back fresh for the league is a better idea. And if they want to blood players, the league is the ideal place to do it, quality teams in tight competition, sink or swim for lads. You'll learn quickly whether a lad will add to the panel or not.

Surely a panel of last years Intermediates/U21s et al could have been used in this competition? That's been done in the past. It'd be ideal for a lad outside the panel to put his hand up. I'm curious as to why KK have pulled out of this competition.

Unless it's to do with the holiday..maybe not enough time to prepare and the management think it'd be of no benefit to them?

Just surprised they left it this late..unKilkenny like!!!

I think the article is incorrect because kk aren't due to play their first walsh cup match till the 13th and the fixtures posted were for the earlier rounds.it also states on the local paper that the panel will return from holidays on the 10th and have being booked in for a home game against Dit on wednesday which will probably be on in dunmore

So you reckon they'll be playing in the Walsh Cup in Jan Brookville?

What is the plan with the holiday? How long are the lads away for?

Some of the younger lads are gone today while the others are going next week and there returning on the 10th and as I said it said on the local paper they will be entering the walsh cup on the 13th it will most likely be a experimental side I believe there's about 8 from next year's u21 panel on board which should hopefully be only a good thing

TJ Reid: ‘If I heard a person saying that I’m cocky, I wouldn’t like it’

Good interview with TJ on 'The 42' earlier today. Well worth a read.

Be a good idea to try out some players, even try lads in different positions etc. The older lads have nothing to prove at this stage but younger lads should be pushing hard for a place on panel and coming through this route would do them no harm.

By the way, do you will Larks miss all of National League or will he be back for end of it?

I see the Kilkenny team are on their team holiday at present. Is it not a bit strange to be away at Christmas? Any particular reason why they go at this time?

I don't think the whole team are gone yet, only some of the players who want to do some additional travelling. I think the rest of the team are leaving on the 28th.

Also, happy Christmas to everyone; I think I'm right in saying that our Christmas present arrived on the afternoon of September 6th :D

Team going away on St Stephens Day. Some have taken their holidays earlier due to work commitments.

Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir. I always thought the Cats would be in Croker in Sept. After a tough league campaign, BC built again.

Not being smart but I'd fear no-one this year either.

That's good news. Great opportunity to try out some lads. Jackie could play Centre Half back.

Any particular lads that look like getting a call up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,747 ✭✭✭brookville

The word on the street is there's a lot of u21 in the seniors the bridge lads and glenmore contingent will be excluded so it's a good chance for richie reid in the goal.id be confident none of the senior lads will be asked to play and some of last year's fringe players have a chance to impress players like conor martin, chris bolger, diramuid coady etc

Yep I was talking to R Doyle just before Christmas and he was saying the 13th of January in Dunmore is where the first match is on and then against Offaly as said above however he thought it was also in Dunmore. He was also saying it would mainly be U21's alright.

I'm really looking forward to see who gets a run in this game and who put's there hand up. I expect quite a lot from these U21's this year and next. I think the likes of Evan Cody, Luke Scanlon, John Walsh mixed in with the lads who were on the fringe last year (Chris Bolger, Conor Martin, Richie Reid) along with one or two veterans who may have to prove their still able for it (Michael Rice, Jackie Tyrrell).

Yeah, last 2 you mentioned will be raring to go i'd say. Hopefully there'll be a freshness about them. Jackie could play at No. 6 without a bother. As stated before, i'd like to see Kevin Kelly get a good run out.

It's a good opportunity to try different players and work with different systems etc. Good chance also to see what cover is available in certain positions.

Speaking of Richie Doyle, there was an article published in the Irish Independent a couple of days ago. Interesting and well worth a read.

    From here:
... "Something is missing when you're not hurling, my identity was lost and I felt lost. When you're in it, all you want is to play and be part of it. It's not a sacrifice, you're doing something you love. "Sometimes I just wouldn't feel like leaving the house and while you have the freedom to socialise, there's only so much of that you can take when you're used to a regime."

Yeah, saw that article. Tough on the lad who only wants to hurl.
