Yeah I've been working on a level for a few days now and it's turning out well. It's a nice way to wind down after a long day.

That's true it's easy to spend hours designing a level, I find my gamepad battery light keeps coming on which I've never had that problem with any other game, think I'll have to invest in the bigger battery.

That fly swatting game is impossible. Get to the last level no problem but then die. Must require me to break my gamepad to beat it. What the hell are you meant to do? Youtube.

The bombs take a second off you when they explode, so always swat them when you see them stop.
Killing the babby flies the boss spits out faster, brings it back on screen faster.
Kill the bees as soon as you see them, nobody wants to deal with a million babby flies in level 2.

Took me about an hour of focused playing it. With a break in the middle, for my health.

Anyone else think the opening theme sounds like a Playstation starting up?

Seem to be stuck on 39 stars. Going have to take down levels now already to get the 50 stars.
Do you lose the stars off the levels you take down?

Right, I'm pretty sure I've played (and starred) every level in the levels thread. Now nobody go off and make another level until my thumbs recover.

You may have played them all but you haven't completed them all :-) ***cough*** carry the p's ***cough***

My poor brother is really sad only three people have played his level (don't have too much sympathy, he's 29) but if you have a couple of minutes the ID is 151C-0000-003C-6E87.

I've now played it and left some positive feedback for the little guy;-)

A Kamek hit a P-Switch I was about to jump on and turned it in to a mushroom and I died...naturally I rage quit.

Wouldn't blame you, although I must say that never happened to me, are you carrying the p's rather than jumping on them? their are a few secret ways to finish it if you explore it a little.

Really enjoying this game. I love how Nintendo have mixed the Wario Ware/Rhythm Heaven sensibility into traditional 2D Mario to create a new taste sensation. Love all the silly and useless UI touches, like how the Mario placeholder starts sweating if you bring the eraser too close to it, or how the Undo dog growls if you press and hold on him. (I almost feel that I should be putting that stuff in spoiler tags, it's so much fun discovering it all.) (Er…should I be putting that stuff in spoiler tags?)

The manual is hands-down my favourite videogame manual ever. If ye haven't had a poke around it yet, I recommend having a look. There's lots of neat Easter Eggs, "Iwata Asks"-type behind-the-scenes mini-features, visual gags etc. The manual is where you enter those mysterious codes from the art book, too. At least some of the codes unlock video tutorials of sorts. The one I watched, I found surprisingly interesting. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned they could imagine themselves recording video of creating a level — I can definitely imagine myself watching such videos!

…Hey, thinking about it, why on earth is the icon for the undo function a dog in the first place?!?

Anybody else come across those weird death cutscene sound things yet? They're super weird and super cool. The amount of small touches in this game are amazing.

It's a Mario Paint reference. The game is full of them.

Game finally arrived yesterday from Amazon but I didn't get a chance to play it.

Annoyingly enough though, the game box and Amiibo box both are in German. Not going to make any difference really but just slightly annoying.

Tried the first of Sligeach's evil bastard levels. If that's what the inside of your brain is like, no wonder you're so miserable on the Bargain thread all the time :D Are you suppose to triple-jump it or ricochet the shells off the pipes and hop on them? Either way I can't get to the third pipe and that's 40 minutes of swearing at the telly that the kids will spend thousands of therapy euros repairing, later in life. Damn you!

whoever made Leah's Lair, that was eye-wateringly busy but very entertaining, my daughters are big fans.

UI touches : I was messing with the Cave set and kept missing a jump, after my umpteenth failed attempt when Mario fell offscreen there was an extended Austin-Powers-esque shriek accompanied by the sound of Mario bumping off a load off off-screen rocks on his way to the bottom of some unseen chasm. Completely pointless but hilarious.

Haven't been too won over by what I've read or seen about this game yet. That might be a good thing considering my finances and time at the moment though!

How does the standard Nintendo built levels compare to say Rayman or Super Mario 3D World? I really don't fancy playing some custom built levels by randomers. Any ones I've seen just seem annoying and frustrating to play.

Leah's lair was made by my daughter Leah(she's 6) it's complete randomness that seemed to have worked well enough, only way anyone(I think) has finished it is by stealing a cloud:-)

Stealing a cloud after killing as many of those lunatics as possible and by using the star at the start.

I didn't realise that you can play a set of levels as a world, i.e. 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4. Turns out you can load them up to play in order.

    5 Super Mario Maker Tips

Some great tips there. It would be excellent if you can generate a single code for a "world".

I'm glad you like the level so much. :p It's rather easy once you get the hang of it. You take a run and jump on the first koopa, keeping your thumb on the run and jump buttons. You should automatically jump off the next koopa. Occasionally you may have to tap the spin jump to spring a little forward to align with the following koopa. I made a short level of just that very jumping. 13 jumps, 12 koopas and it's over in 14 seconds.

I like challenging levels, I haven't really found any. @Machismo Fan had a very good jumping level. Haven't played anything that I couldn't beat. I'm delighted that only Ste beat my short "evil bastard" level as you put it. And only 1 guy out of 555+ attempts beat the harder one. He said he enjoyed it, liked the challenge and to check out his levels. So I'll do that later, I hope they're difficult. Believe it or not but mine aren't very hard nor very long.

Anyone notice that if you press the home button and then go back to the game you sometimes don't get notifications? You have to close the game and restart it for them to pop up. Or is there a better way?

And Nintendo announced today that over a million levels have been uploaded so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,457 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

Nintendo need to create a website like Media Molecule did for Little Big Planet. They had an online hub where you could cue up levels, leave comments and ratings. You could see any comments on your own levels and stats on who played them.

Ah fer f.... you can hold the jump button down? I've been trying to tap it at the exact moment of contact... I'm a chump. Is a triple jump off the first koopa necessary or am I over thinking it?

I hope you're not taking my comments as a criticism. Don't get me wrong, it *is* an evil bastard level but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy banging my head off a wall :D Between that an Iamtony's P-block level I had an unfulfilling blast last night. I honestly can't remember if I actually pulled off a shell-ricochet air-jump or just convinced myself it's possible with more skill than I possess, but I'm bloody well going to try again tonight :D

No need for a triple jump but build up a bit of speed before the first jump. I'll have to check out iamtony's level as well so.

I'm currently on 44 stars. Only six more until I can upload more!

I had a quick run through expert 100 Mario challenge and it feels like the levels have gotten significantly better in terms of level design compared to last week. Seems easier too, but that could be down to a week of paying Mario every day!

I've missed a few of yours so you may get a few later when I try them. I'm only two short and I've added three new levels today (nudge nudge). :P
