He's absolutely right on the facts, but it will all be lost in the politics. Actually the very fact that Coveney (or any politician) declares a bull market in a commodity is a pretty good reason to run a mile.

Whilst a good few people have made big money following private advice from a politician, very few have prospered by following their public pronouncements.

Every price move in every market is caused by an imbalance of fear and greed - I sometimes wonder whether we have a genetic surfeit of both!

Coveney - politician therefore only interested in reelection.
    Ming - ditto
Journalist - jumping on any running story

There will be casualties but equally there'll be success'. This price position was well flagged 12 mths ago. Nobody is losing money at farm level yet but I can see cash being burned for the first half of next year.

As I said before what are ye doing about it?

If we're in a bubble, isn't selling out now the prudent ting to do? Why not do it?

    Wouldn't agree with that, frazzled.

Breakeven price on heavy ground in North Kerry is put at 28c.

What will your average price for the year be? That's why I mentioned last year iykwim

I don't expect too many to agree but I'm used to that :)

I might be wrong but did ming write that?
Odd the way they don't say who wrote it

What defines when the bubble bursts? Land sales? Repossessions?

If we are in a bubble, I suspect the prudent thing to do is not to over-pay for land, and not to over-borrow for anything. And to take anything any politician or institution says with a healthy pinch of salt.

I suspect the biggest sign will be when the co-ops start getting into trouble and being merged into one giant monopoly "for everyone's benefit".

The price has only been low a a short time if people are in trouble now I wouldn't like to see them in 6 months time!

    Of course not!
Likewise absolutely nobody invested in houses on Bertie's advice...

It's a spin like all the property porn in the msm at that time.

So what is the base price predicted for the next 12 months would you think. The big companies must be making reasonable predictions for 2016.

We don't know what we are getting for July yet so hard to predict. We really dodged a bullet earlier in the year with milk prices
