22 points scored in 60 minutes is rather excellent, Waterford not far off the mark and I fully expected a good beating by them.
Waterford were 1/3 at half time to win which shows how much Clare were written off.
A few weeks ago they were down with Antrim at the bottom of the pile amongst the bookies contenders.

I'd say Clare's odds was more to do with the fact that they'll have to play 3 of the favourites to win it out rather than their skill levels.

When are the football and hurling championships due to start? Will it be delayed with 21s in Munster Final?

donal seemed fairly relaxed about lads playing with there clubs last year so i doubt there will be much disruption this time around either , the football championship is starting the weekend after next , i assume like last year it will go every second week after that ,

Bobby Duggan to me is a great representation of what is "wrong" with Clare hurling at the moment. As last night's game showed he's an amazing talent and in the right environment he can flourish, there is somethign definitely going right for him at under 21, that might be the management, the age group, the tactics, the style of play, whatever, but it seems to be working. At senior level he came on as a sub and couldn't even rise the ball, he had a complete & utter shocker, he wasn't tried in a game with no pressure (Offaly) or in a game when a half forward was needed, in fact a player that was already taken off was considered a better option.

There is a big gap between under 21 and senior, allowing players bridge that gap is the most important task for both the under 21 management and the senior management, I'm not seeing any evidence that this is happening.

You are giving the Clare County Boards far far far too much credit there, you would imagine that 2 competitions could be ran off like that so that the competitions could be played in the height of the *ahem* summer, what you're forgetting is that now that they've a few months to spare before the Munster club they'll make a sh1te of organising everything until there's a case of teams playing twice in 1 weekend.

I'd imagine the following will happen:
Hurling on the bank holiday weekend, football on the following weekend. Because of a mix up with an intermediate/junior game the football will be put back another week.
Football on weekend of the 10th.
Cause of a mix up with the football, the hurling is played the weekend of the 24th.
Thanks to some lottery type results (or a certain club being knocked out so the rules will have to be changed to allow for a play off) the play offs are due to be played the weekend of the 6th of September, cause of the All Ireland this is put back will the 13th. There'll be a draw so the semi final will be played the weekend of the 27th with the final to be played the 11th of October (2 weeks before the Munster Club).

Something similar will happen with the football, if either championship is finished before the end of September I'll be surprised.

Hope Limerick get through, be good to have the final at home. What a shocking red card decision by the ref

That's a great result for us. Limerick at home in the Munster final and great opportunity to retain our title.

Certainly nothing to fear either. Tipp created a massive amount of scoring chances.

Great result for us, home advantage is huge, should be a great night in the park.

Agreed, they didn't seem overly well coached, lots of terrible passes and terrible shot selection compared to how clinical our lads were last night. Looking forward to this one and should be a big crowd in the park aswell, serious atmosphere there when the game gets going.

Should be a great evening alright, both counties could do with winning something this year. The place will be packed. These two teams met at minor 3 years ago at a very wet Ennis that went into extra time.

I think if we can play like we did yesterday we have a great chance. Whats important though, is getting more outta Sod as realistically we need our best player at his best. I think Limerick probably have more stars on their team but Id be confident our lads can raise their game, its clear their properly coached and setup. It will be a great occasion for some of the younger lads just on the team, the likes of Galvin, O'Gorman and Hehir to show again the ability on a big stage.

A fortnight with the 21's and no senior influence could make a big difference to Sod's performance, he seemed tired lastnight.

A balanced article and he's raises good points
Obviously davy is staying now but next year should be it if results don't improve

That's a given for him nearly every day. The few times he got possession I thought he was knocked off the ball a lot easier than usual. I'm expecting him to be a lot more involved the next day rightly or wrongly.

Ya. Limerick will have to watch Duggan, Galvin and O'Donnell. Cant double Mark them all.

In fairness to Finn, he did a good job on Galvin for the intermediates, but the 21s have probably been together longer and will be a more fluid overall side. SOD will need to up his game, and considering O'Riordan scored 2 goals, I'd be slightly worried although I rate English highly. Duggan will be hard to mark, he finds space very well.

Was at the game and thought the same. Came home and watched the replay, ref was correct, both yellows for Limerick's Barry O'Connell were justified as were both for Michael Breen. However, conditions did play a part in 1 yellow of both players.
Hopefully a good final in Ennis in 2 weeks time. Clare will be favourites after win over Waterford plus home advantage. Standard in that game was much higher than Limerick/Tipp game, albeit conditions were the complete opposite.

Seeing as were being told that this year is progress, what would constitute improvement next year..... Consolidating our position in the rarified atmosphere of division 2 and beating Westmeath in the championship ??

Good news from an Eire og point of view at the weekend with Davy o holloran back playing. Bad news though with reidy got to the states for awhile.

Rumour is as well that a number of Clare seniors are gone to the states on holidays for awhile too. Well that would be a kick in the teeth for clubs with championship about to start again. Heard a number of the ballyea lads were heading away.

Any team that won the first round knows that the second round is not that important. God knows when the third round will be on if there is a draw in the second round.

    Yes, good article.
They are the main points, although I would also question fitness seeing as we were level or winning all our big games this year going into the last few minutes, and lost them all.

Maybe Paul Kinnerk coming back can help on that front.

Improvement next year would be promotion AND good showing in league play offs, considering we'll probably have to beat Limerick and Wexford who have both beaten us in the Championship in the past 2 years this is a big ask.

Then we'll have to win a Munster championship game AND get to an All Ireland semi final.

Anything less than both of above would be a poor performance IMO

I had an interesting conversation with someone well connected to a few of the players/county board, apparently a few of the players have left the country and haven't passed on their number to Davy and have told others not to pass them on either, others are getting more calls now from Davy than they did throughout the year. Davy has reached out to some of the club managers but he has burnt that bridge last year, apparently 1 manager has said (quite openly) that last year Davy was blaming us for the start of Clare hurling now he wants to be our best friend.

Bottom line is the club managers aren't Davy's best friends, a few players are taking a break and Davy is trying to drum up support.
