Bloody weather. Haven't been able to unpack the car or go looking for some crappy car to occupy my spare time with.

I know of another 19 I've been meaning to tell you about actually...

    Has potential I reckon

I tagged you in it there. Also there was a 92 Clio on donedeal yesterday for 500 quid but I can't see to find it now. Larry had a Mk1 Clio van way back also

Was just thinking it looked odd like it's off an omega or something.

Those Astras looked pretty good when they came out for the type of car they were.

Same with the interiors - quite attractive for their era.

The indicator lenses are from a pre facelift - the grill however is the right grill for that age astra.

Not sure about the bumpers - but they look the same style front and rear.

Also I don't recall - apart from the GSI any pre facelift version - even Uk spec SRis and CDs having the colour coding on the bumpers like that one does.

Looks like the black section on the bumpers was designed that way - and id say the bumpers are proper facelift.

    Not sure though :(

Not sure how this will past its a flickr image - but this is a pre facelift Vauxhall Astra CD - same Gen as the other one linked to but PRE facelift.

    https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7539/16049454191_b73bbd1617_b.jpg

That one actually has white indicator lenses - Vauxhall fitted them to higher spec models - the one in the link is a CD.

However - on the facelift - THEY ALL had white lenses for the indicators.

Ordered new kidney grills last night; went for gloss black ones. I have a bit of a black theme going on the car so hopefully they'll look well. And sure they were cheap enough so if I don't like them I can change them. This is what it should look like, except mine has black indicator housings on the front, instead of the silver ones in this pic:

Change from the 159? How has it been for you?

Did you get it done? Notice much of a difference?

yes I got it done on my 159 diesel.
it was way smoother and quieter afterwards, seemed to have better pickup and used a little less juice.
But, it doesnt last, your engine gets gummed up again, Id say you would want to get it done every year to keep the benifits.

It's been great. Absolutely superb. I'm thinking a Guilietta would be a nice replacement.

The reason is I'm moving in with my fiancé, we've a wedding next year and tbh we probably only need one car.

That's class, more than welcome to spin by and have a spin in my 166 at some stage if you're still in Dublin? May help with your choice of replacement! :D

Oh and congrats on the wedding..!

I had meant to call you before I left Dublin but the year end was manic to say the least

Thanks. I still might go ahead with it, trying to look after the car a bit more now as it gets older.

    500,000 kilometers isn't much for a taxi. 310miles aprox

Hmm... I suppose when you say it like that it doesn't seem too excessive.

Actually looks like a nice yoke. I like the idea of cars/vans/suvs with loads of space in them.

It wouldn't be the best buy ever with it's gearbox trouble and it has had a hard life.

Sure someone was on here before that they have a corolla with 750k on it and its a 2007 if i remember right.

    Mileage can't be right?!

Local taxi man has a minter on a 2005 vw transporter. Has it since new, and has clocked up over 600k miles! He entered it into some vw competition not long back, for vw vehicles with the highest mileage. Safe to say he won hands down.

Ah I wouldn't be in a rush to buy it anyway, to be honest. The Pathfinder still has my attention (but I'm having a hard time justifying getting rid of the Focus, as it's grown on me quite a bit).

That said, a random browse on Donedeal of all things big and small brought this Audi into my sights.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/red-audi-a4-for-sale-2005-new-nct/9371602?offset=13

Aside from looking like it's being lowered, I actually quite like it. I'm not a person that's big into car brands at all (I associate bigger marquees like BMW and Audi with more expensive running costs, not quite an 'image' person) but that car caught my eye.

But if I went out and bought it, that'd mean I've the focus just under 6 months. The Rav4 is the only car that lasted a year with me, everything else lasted around 6months.. I don't really want to get into the habit of getting bored and swapping every 6 months (an expensive habit! :o ).

I've had 4 cars in less than 2.5 years of driving. Much as I like driving different cars, I'm kinda thinking it's a bit silly to be jumping around so much.

I'd imagine on this forum there are a fair few of ye that jump about a lot and swap over regularly?

The way I look at it is if I change more often I will hopefully spend less on parts and bits that will go wrong and I just love chanfe anyway.
