Family member is retiring after 40 years in social welfare. Supposedly George Clooney is in Ireland, and they got him to write her a card. Lovely card he wrote, poem and all on it, and best wishes. He even sprayed some of his aftershave on it! She was over the moon. Fair play to the chap!

This is Ireland. Rules are only for people who don't know the right people.

Sure it's a hearse? Not an "island car" or something? TBH 530d should have its own tax classification - I'd say the majority of them are owned by fiddlers and diddlers. 2.0 on log book...

I know it's sheer laziness on my part, but I only just checked the oil in the car the other day (wednesday). Wasn't even planning on doing it. Was topping up the washer fluid when i decided to do it to kill a bit of time.

There was a slight little dribble of oil (if you could even describe it as that) at the very, very bottom of the dip stick. I'd say it covered about 3-4mm on the dipstick (way below the 'low' mark). I was shocked.

Car had shown no signs of needing anything. Wasn't over heating, no strange noises, bonnet area didn't even seem particularly warm after a drive.

I had 1 litre left of the 5 litre bottle of oil i had there, so I threw that in to it. The car (Mk1 Focus estate) takes about 4 litres in total. Haven't really been in the car since, but have a lengthy drive ahead of me tomorrow, so gonna fly over to Halfords and fire a bottle of their generic 5w30 into it (the 5w30 in it already is castrol, but i don't think mixing them really matters, does it?).

In fairness to the car, in the last six months it's done just above 13,000km I'd say, and not a whimper out of it. A fair ould goer! :D

After 13k km that's not too bad it's an older car there was always a chance of it burning a reasonable amount of oil and a litre ish over 13k is nothing to worry about. Althought ideally don't let it run below min next time. Your a brave man not to dip it for oil for so long :)

Saw a Merc estate on DoneDeal taxed as a hearse a little while back. I have a feeling there will be more and more hearses driving around. :P

would a guard not laugh in your face at a checkpoint if you had hearse tax on a normal car?

Is it a mk3 or mk4? Fault in the connection along the line somewhere I'd say.

Went for a blast up the hills this afternoon. Bloody gorgeous out. Enniskerry, up to Glencree and on to the Sally Gap and take the right towards Blessington. And then take the n81 for a short while before taking the back roads to Firhouse and off home.

Brakes are amazing, engine pulls like a train and sounds great. Not a bad Sunday afternoon. :)

And a quick pic from my phone:

Them coupes still have it for a 14 year old car!

Was that spoiler always on it?

Of all the places to pull in and take a photo on that road you chose the worst one for some scenery.

I don't like the stereotype or whatever you want to call it, just because a car is xx years old, it's a miracle of some sort that it still looks good.

Hate having cars for sale on donedeal. Just put a car up and I already hate the idea of strangers in around the house and, more than likely, wanting the car for half of its asking price. :(

Meet them in a car park, bring the log book and a pen with you. You don't need to let them into the house.

True. Anything I've ever sold on donedeal, I always let the buyer come to the house and there was never any problems. But with all these "horror stories" that you'd hear, it would really put you off even advertising online.

Something really puts me off meeting people in carparks. Maybe its because the last car I viewed was in an abandoned car park and the car was very dodgy.

The only car I sold at the house was my Punto, because, well...

I hate selling cars on donedeal myself. But out of the 3 ive sold they were always first to see bought them no real real messers or chancers so I was lucky. Especially with the golf I literally couldn't of sold it too a nicer guy if I had tried he was sound out out a large deposit on the car let me keep it for a week to get sorted no messing around whatsoever. His biggest fear was that I would sell it to someone else he really loved the car.

My parents old car was sold to its second viewer. First guy was a complete waster, called us after asking how does the air-con work (he was gone test driving ANOTHER car and asked us how to work the controls!!). The second guy was from Kilkenny and bought it. Really nice guy and was a good to see it going to a good home.. Or we thought it was..

Seen it on donedeal 2 years after we sold it and it had no tax, no nct, in a shocking state and had lost 30k miles from when we sold it :pac:
