Anyone else see this? I think its a great idea. And it'll certainly stop people giving out saying "they done work to the car that didnt have to be done" or "they never said that had to be done until they showed me the bill"!

The car was sitting for a while was it? I agree if that's the only thing then you're not doing too badly but when a car comes into a main dealer as a trade in for retail there's a standard for the work that it has to meet. I merely mentioned not changing an air filter was poor form. Pirellis on it...?

Yep sitting up for a good few months they have a good few like that they have 4 meganes like mine one advertised there is a back log in the place basically. They are trying to get each car nct and then advertise / prep it. Like they have car parks of cars. Yep pirelli p7 on the front with over 7mm barum on the back with 8mm.

As I said I'm extremely fussy when it comes to the mechanicals and the air filter was the only thing I found wrong with it. Similar car to mine were making a minimum of 2k more in every other renault garage and I'm low balling at that. Before I bought the car I was expecting it to need 200-300 spent somewhere. Also it has that Clifford alarm as a bonus one of the new type canbus alarms that are completly integrated into cars ecu / security system.

Why were other similar cars asking €2k more?

Because when you leave a battery sitting for months on end it doesn't do it any favours they put it in more as a precaution the other was working but didn't seem great so I said it too them. I get what your saying but if that is the oy thing I can find wrong with it I'm not doing too bad. Plus it has new front pads and basically 4 new decent brand tyres.

The tractor is often left months in the cold dark winter and it starts up flying. My C220 wasn't started in a few months, again one turn of the key and it roared into life. I have complete faith that if I get into it now and turn the key it will fire up. Same with the Jag, I don't have the chance to do fun stuff with it yet it starts up first time every time the odd time I do start it up.

If you're as fussy as you say you are, you'd have a heart attack in a scrapyard....!

A mixture of other garages being typically expensive main dealers. Me knowing them got me an extra 500 euro off as at the time they hadn't lost the keys and were just letting it off to me. The fact the car looked slightly scruffy as it had a few marks on the front bumper and it needed to be cleaned which would of put joe soap off. Which if it had been in the condition it was in when I collected it they would of sold it months ago properly polished up to reveal very decent paintwork most light marks polished out too. It has 117k km on it most have 60-70k km. also the fact they had a good few of them so wanted to get rid of some and let's face it meganes will never have a queue of people to buy them as john in the pub said they eat window regulators and give loads of electrical trouble. Silver is probably the least popular colour too. Any im happy with it and confident enough that it wasn't flipped and put in a ditch at some stage. It's actually very clean and straight underneath.

Anyway does anyone know how many bhp a 1.4 bug eye corollar has you know the 98 ish model.

Did the bug eye corollas come in 1.4? Only ever saw 1.3 and 1.6 I think. If I'd to guess on the 1.3, somewhere around 70-75 I'd imagine.

Infairness the loaner one had a bad enough battery too and they just got that in so Id say the original batteries just aren't great plus you have a lot of electronics and lights that stay on until you lock the car so longterm there would be a good enough draw on the battery.

I was in a scrapyard once before I thought it was cool enough I probably wouldn't put to many of the parts on my car but I get the point of them. It was a big enough step for me not to buy the filter in a main dealer as I've only ever bought filters in a main dealers but I figure since Mann make the filter anyway and it's an air filter I'll chance it this time :pac:

1.3 was the 4e-fe. The last gen 4e-fe was 86bhp.

    YES.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

They look good, and I'm sure they'll look even better when they're not photoshopped. :P

I've been looking on DoneDeal and stuff for some nice 4x100 wheels. Trying to find something nice under €200 is not easy.

Its hard finding nice wheels on a budget isnt it, I was scanning donedeal for a few weeks and nothing I liked so deiced to buy new. The wheels will cost me close to 700 euro and they are considered budget wheels.

batteries are normally replaced every 2-3 years these days.

I don't believe that for a second! I've never heard of batteries being replaced every 2/3 years.

just because you dont believe something for a second does not mean it is untrue.

Does not mean the battery will stop after 2-3 years but in the place I worked, they would replace when the warranty was up

Unknown to you too powerpants, just because you say something doesn't make it true.

I've never replaced a battery and have had them for 5-7 years and no trouble.

    im happy for you

    well done

I personally wouldn't change until it started leaking charge. I get why a garage would want to change earlier, but as long as you check the charge yourself every 2-3 years it should be fine.

Ah right sorry, i totally forgot nobody can go against your opinion without you going off all smart.

    Sorry again.

Dont recall it being myself who became all "smart" the last time.

I stated my opinion, the other poster stated his but unfortunately had to resort to name calling. These things happen, when you get hot under the collar.

Main dealer I worked in that had numerous other brands within the group never used to replace batteries that often. If they were beginning to struggle to hold charge then yes but other than that not really.

Mentioned this yesterday but the car I'm driving at the moment has a 14 year old original battery in it, still going strong and yes it is good for me and I'm very happy about it. :)

Unfortunately your point really hasn't got much backing behind it, bit of an outlandish thing to say really.

outlandish? If that is what you believe then fine.

I've found the same in my experience, although less than yours I'd imagine. Every car I've bought has had the original battery still in place, all of which were 10+ years old. Had to replace the BMW battery though but it was 11 years old so no complaints.

Outlandish, outrageous, absurd, preposterous etc. :)

I wouldn't say it's what I believe in, more just personal experience.

Ah yeah that's completely understandable, they are a consumable, it's just madness to suggest they need replacing every 2-3 years.

Funnily enough that astra I had would have been 4 years old at the time I got it too and I had to put a new battery in it when I bought it. With the megane when I was looking at the car it had to be jumped and when I was doing the deal on it I was going true what I wanted done to the car and I said to him look I don't know whether that battery will come right if it's charged up and used regularly but I said to him that relistically I couldn't deal with something that was only bearly going to start each time. He just said consider it changed he said the last thing we want is for you to be having to jump the car or anything and it's much easier for us to put a new battery in it when we will be checking it over and putting the mudflaps etc on it.

That was the end of it I never said anymore about it but the car has a brand new battery in it now. So I can't definitively say the other was fcuked or not for all I know they put the old battery into an older petrol car they have that wouldn't need as good a battery as a diesel as, as we all know diesels in general need a more powerful battery.
