Well if the government legalised and taxed cannabis then it will go towards this countrys piggy-bank and will help us along some bit.

People wouldn't do it then though don't you know the minute it helps society people wouldn't be arsed

Would also save silly resources put into trying to curtail cannabis in this country, could be used for more serious drug crime

What, with the quantitative easing implemented recently on the Euro. No point in purchasing over-seas now with the euro devalued.

Pretty much anything manufactured is imported, and a good share of foods.

Name one country that has 100% employment ?

All Soviet countries that ever existed. Full employment as part of being part of the party.

Yup loads of food imported, Did you know Irish potatoes are imported back into Ireland as frozen chips as no one makes them here. Loads of stuff like that.

I pay 52 percent tax on a huge percentage of what I earn

Why should that go to someone who chooses not too work?

A few years ago my ex husband justified his being unemployed to his mother as I earned enough for it not to matter
he literally was allergic to work

No you don't it's on a small percentage. Get's me everyone banging on about I pay 52% tax nonsense. The effective rate is nothing near that.

In all fairness Stheno the 52% of your taxes don't just go to the dole. Only a tiny bit of your taxes goes to welfare payments.

Most of your taxes go to the bank bailouts and un-guaranteed bondholers and corrupt politicians.

I would like to see the breakdown of the tax payments... I would wager the overall effective rate is probably 32%. Can you imagine the uproar if people were paying 52% on most of the wage..

Most of it's nothing to do with JSA. Pensions is the largest part.

And funded by the very small percentage of our population paying the most taxes

I think that the point of this is that there are many ways to be allergic to work, beyond JSA.

How would you explain Ireland's jobless households rate, two or three times higher than that of other EU countries, some also deeply affected by the recession?

That's a pointless statement, so is the health service it's part of living in a society. What would you do with your money if the tax was not taken ? Hope it would be enough to buy an armored car home body guards if you want a very small tax system. You would probably be worse off paying for protection from the people who have no income.

I know one section has an unemployment rate of 80% odd.

I posted the link to the report up thread...

"In 2010, 23 per cent of households in Ireland had a very low work intensity, compared to the next-highest countries, UK and Belgium, at 13 per cent and an EU-15 average of 11 per cent. Most countries had rates of household joblessness between 6 and 11 per cent, so Ireland is clearly exceptional".

Ok....I honestly have no idea what "section" you're referring to...not trying to derail anything!

People are moaning about Tax now. Any idea for example how much it would cost to fund a decent child care system to get people back to work and self sufficient ? Or trained or even a realistic job opportunity ?

They mean Travellers. It's a small (20k or so) section though and can not explain the overall rate.
