If its the bigger hard disk (3.5") then you will need a case with external power supply.

The box should power the smaller 2.5" hard disks.

Can anyone recommend me a decent priced box and a place to purchase please?

    Amazon the best?

Leaning towards the Mx3, any other recommendations?

Does the remote work well, or is it wise to get a wireless mouse / keyboard?

    Regard

Some of the lad's got the MXIII 2GB and had trouple with the power adapter, but if you buy from Amazon, you should be safe for returns. I have an M8S, remote is ok, but remote for Sony tv works better on it, or you could put the Yatse app on your android phone or tablet. Wireless mouse is handy for set up.

I've heard this or the mx3 are the way too go?

Could you direct me to the best place to purchase a box and how much would one roughly cost

    Regards

I got mine through androidpcsystems.com,they're an Irish company afaik and have very good after sales service too. You can pay anything from €50 to €250,depends on your budget and your requirements

The MXQ gave power adaptor trouble.

The MX3 I bought has been flawless, worked perfectly on Open Elec.

€129.99 for the MXQ, Christ lad that's absolute robbery of the highest level. That's making at least €80 clear on each box.

Anyone using them at those prices is an idiot

Ah yes, forgot about that. Well worth it then...hhmmmmm...

Sarbox.is sells MXQ for €83 so quite a difference...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,337 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

83 is arguably good value worth it if it means you avoid the wait from China, risk from customs charging an extra 15, set-up and the fact that if something like the adapter goes in two weeks you have no comeback. 130 is way too much for an MXQ

In fairness I was asked where I got it and that's the information I provided to the poster. I'm not affiliated to the company in any way, they were recommended by a mate and I found them simple and hassle free to deal with.

I got the minix X8 plus,€195 with a keyboard/remote thingy. It came loaded with all the sport and movie apps so required very little setting up when I got it. I've had to ring him twice with some questions I had and found him more than willing to help with it.
Not sure how that price ranks as I didn't shop around as such, just went with a mates recommendation and if since recommended it to some lads in work who seem happy with theirs too

No contact details on their website for support etc. no phone number, no address of the business, no details on their after sales support at all on their website.

If I was selling this sort of product and offering such 'very good after sales service' I would be advertising it on my website.

Budget of about €100, looking for a box to run showbox or Koid or whatever, the usual stuff, what's the best kit out there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭Yellowledbetter

Fair points,I got the contact number off a mate and that's how I did my dealings with the guy.
I personally was impressed the swiftness my queries about the box were answered. Bottom line,I'm happy with the box,my only gripe is not getting one a few years back....from any retailer/supplier/bloke at a car boot sale

Seems to be a minefield out there when you don't know much about theses boxes, I have found a guy on donedeal selling the mxq quad core for €79,
He is also selling the m8 quad core for €95 .
Are these prices reasonable? Of the two listed which one would be the better purchase?
Thanks for any input, have been reading this thread for a while and haven't really got a clue about these tbh.

Have a T8 box the last month and love it. Bought a LG TV last week and it seems they're not compatible with each other. There's a firmware issue that causes the screen to constantly flash black and back. The only way to stop this is to turn the resolution down to 576 but this causes the screen to have a zoomed in effect making it unwatchable. So my question is has anyone heard of this before and if there's any fix. If not could someone recommend a Windows box that I've read will work. Thanks

You can get the newer spec M8, called the M8s S812 2GB version with H.265 decoding for £75.89 from Amazon. Co.UK. It's a great box, Wi-Fi is acceptable if your router is in the same room or hardwire if possible.

Anyone know where I can get a 3 pin plug for an MXiii? Those lovely folks at Gearbest sent me out a replacement Mxiii after my last one got fried, despite the fact that I looked for a refund. (They blamed their New Year break on the mix up)Don't want to use the two pin plug and adapter that came with it as it was a fault with this that fried my last box.

Lads I flashed openelec onto a mxq there but all that is showing up is a black screen after it boots up. Any ideas what I can do to fix it ?
