I like how Clarkson threads all over the web have gone from demanding Jezza not be fired to arguing about who should take over.

Would be kind of pointless now to demand he won't be fired. And he's had a good enough run. No one has the energy and time now to start a populist movement to have him reinstated. If 1 million signatures won't do it, what will? Hardly worth devoting one's life to, to find out.

I can categorically state now it will be a flop. It was always about the 3 lads and then the cars.

Bookies had Dermot O'Leary as the favourite to take over...couldn't have picked a blander presenter if they tried.

That would be a total disaster, and I wouldn't be caught dead watching and programme to do with motors.

Short sleeved shirt man!! For the fans sake I hope that one doesn't happen.

Chris Harris was on fifth gear the other night. Him and Tiff made an OK team. Fifth gear has a new guest presenter each week so if the BBC are looking for replacements fifth gear seems to be showing them what the options are.

What I mean is it's gone from "How dare they fire Jezza?! Man of the people! I'll never watch it again! Rabble, rabble!" To "I hope they get Rowan Atkinson on now".

I would put zero money on Atkinson, btw. He's notoriously private and has a moderate speech impediment that means he doesn't like working without a script.

Don't forget the trucks, just watched the Burma programme again this morning.Stunning programme and Jeremy in his shirt and tie with jeans but the trucks looked really painful to drive.
It does show how Clarkson really messed up a great television programme with his personal problems.

I found myself watching a bit of the Burma adventure as well and it was very entertaining.
But, I would suggest, elements are staged, life taking James' tent aloft with the crane.
It'll be missed but a new cast will soon attract a similar following and on it'll go.
Or the same cast will return, with the cone of shame wrapped around Clarksons neck for the returning season.

Shouldn't Top Gear be ideal then? He cvan just avoid the interviews.

How dare he have personal problems, he should be more like the stig, once the show is over he should go in a box until he's needed again.

I have my doubts they can find a team that will match. I think the BBC should have a go but I can just see them picking very dry people or people that try too hard.

Has Chris Evans said that he is not interested in the job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭DeadHand

Best of luck to Clarkson he's well rid of the increasingly PC, sterile BBC.

Sure, he messed up and was wrong but what uncastrated male among us hasn't been involved in an argument or scuffle at some stage? Admittedly he's a little old to get involved in such nonsense but he's human.

The hate for him has been ugly and unnecessary for such a minor incident.

I think going with someone too famous won't work out. They should get relative unknowns to do the job.
When TG MK2 started out, Clarkson was well known, but far from a superstar, having been dropped previously and done nothing much inbetween. He did some OK shows, but nothing that set the world on fire.
Hammond was a provincial DJ and May had a degree in music. Neither of them would get the Top Gear gig today if they applied now.
If they now got someone who is too much associated with something else, it would look wrong. I'd rather have three vegan lesbians if they are going to be entertaining than some "big personality" that won't work with the format·
My guess, the BBC will want to play it safe, so they won't endanger the survival of the show. And it will fail for exactly that reason. The last thing they'll do is to come up with something surprising, daring and left field. Having said that, I still hope they will.
I'm open to the future, but just like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, you can't replace the face of a brand.

Or they could just bring back Jason Dawe. Bahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:P

Cannot understand that kind of thinking Hand.

This lad has been 'up there' before the top dogs before and been warned.

Now bear in mind the Beeb is run on taxpayers money and as such has a commitment to run things in accordance with the law.

If Clarkson wants to be ' non Pc and 'edgy' and left field go out there and do it on either his own money or private funds, don't ride on the taxpayers back mate and expect to get away with it.
Beats me how people don't see this, he allegedly clocked a lad , a work colleague, an innocent co-worker .
What kind of rubbish is this?

Go out and be edgy and non PC and left field on private funds mate, the taxpayer cannot tolerate this blatant abuse of funds .

    Cmon folks.

"Clocked" is a dramatic word for what was, at the end of the day, hurt feelings and a slightly swollen lip. It shows how hysterical Western society has become when a minor row like this is blown into some savage assault and racist rant.

Fair enough, I hope he does and best of luck to him. Having said that, I think there is still room for the now rare non PC characters in an increasingly PC and neutered media.. I think public figures who challenge the prevailing dogma are important in any generation.

So do I, but do it within the law.

Public figures who challenge prevailing dogma are a long way from a work colleague clocking another one at their place of work, don't you think?

A 'row' requires two people acting aggressively towards one other. What Clarkson did was verbally and physically attack someone who was in no way acting aggressively or confrontationally towards him.

He's acknowledged this himself so there's no reason for other people to downplay it as being a bit of a harmless row.

    What did he do then?

From what I've read, he got involved in a minor spat that has been blown out of all proportion.

That's why the definition of assault is basically an unsolicited physical attack. It's a catch-all term, and maybe not ideal, but what's equally not as ideal is one person punching another and defining it as a light slap, or violently knocking a person to the ground and kicking them in the ribs and defining it as rambunctious roughhousing. The line has to be drawn low in part to stop knuckle-draggers making whatever they did into an issue of contention when it shouldn't be.

    Oh, I'm sorry.

Is the producer still in hospital? Will he live do you think?

How many years of psychotherapy will it take for him to recover from being called a "lazy Irish c*nt"?

A storm in a tea cup latched onto by people who don't like him anyway as a stick to beat him with.

I like him and love Top Gear, as do many others on here who have rightfully criticised him for what happened.

You can spin it however you like, but the fact remains that Top Gear is finished, not because of the actions of the producer, the media or the 'loony left' brigade, but because of Clarkson's own actions.

If it's a storm in a teacup blown out of all proportion in your eyes, then it's mildly ironic that you view Clarkson attacking a guy because a hotel kitchen was closed to be something as simple as an everyday 'row'.

I'm sorry, but Clarkson deserved to have the **** kicked out of him for what he did but luckily for him the producer obviously isn't able to handle himself or knew his job was finished if he reacted. Clarkson knew what he was doing, if Vinnie Jones was producing you could have been damn sure he wouldn't have opened his mouth.
Clarkson was late of his own accord and decided to take out his frustration on someone he knew wouldn't retaliate.

"Got involved in a minor spat" !

In most workplaces if one abused and struck a work colleague in public it would t be considered "a minor spat" I would suggest .

If someone approached you in your workplace, abused you publicly and struck you, would you consider that a minor spat?
