His crossing is appalling. Putting him out wide is a bad idea. If he's not in the middle, he should be benched. He doesn't need mollycoddling, he's a senior professional. No lack of effort from him on Saturday to be fair.

His passing and decision making are also appalling, so playing him in the centre would be no better.

Giving a player an easier role to perform to help them regain form is not mollycoddling. It doesn't matter whether they're junior, senior, amateur or professional, all players need help to regain form from time to time.

As far as next is concerned to become challengers I believe we need to do 3 things

    1. Add speed in attack

    2. Add class and authority in midfield

3.Add steal and Leadership at the back

There's no doubt we should be closer to the top than we are this season, as far as I am concerned we didn't need falcao because the formation we should be playing is 4-2-3-1 which means Rooney or RVP up front on there own with attackers to the left and right of the 3 behind and a creative number 10, this is how chelsea set themselves up and this is how we should be set also

Mata would thrive as a number 10 if he was just behind alone striker with pacy players to either side of him, we have NEVER used him this way. This is how he has stared for Chelsea in the past, for us its either been shunted on the wing or as a number 10 in a diamond midfield behind 2 slow enough strikers looking for the same space

For next season I would not sign Falcao, I would tell RVP he will be rotated with Rooney for the lone striker role. I would do my upmost to sign a bale robben or reus type player, I would give di-maria another chance unless he wants to leave for either flank. I would sell carrick and keep blind as a sub, I wold try and sign verrati and modric(if pogba goes to madrid hes game time will be limited) but I dont think modric is a lvg type player. In defence I would sign godin and clyne

There's absolutely no logic to selling Michael Carrick.

its either him or Blind because if we have ambitions to challenge Chelsea, city, barca, real and Bayern both are not good enough as starters

    He's better than Blind.

Hes also significantly older and less versatile then Blind though, who is still young enough to improve

Do people think its a coincidence that Kagawa, Mata, Di Maria and Falcao all world class players in the seasons before we bought them have all been underwhelming in general when they donned a red shirt?

It's 100% down to the horrid, second-rate style of football that's set into the club during the last 6 years at least

Wonder if Van Gaal will look to Bas Dost, Dutch striker for Wolfsburg, scored 11 goals so far this year in the Bundesliga, averaging 1 goal every 63 minutes.
He is 25 but his previous record in past years is poor...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

So why would he look to him?

LVG didn't even take him to the WC so I would highly doubt it

Thay was before he had his breakout 11 goal season though.

It is 11 goals this year in the league. He was being talked about on off the ball, 11 goals in 6 games, he is making news, and his current form is up there with the very best in Europe.

Not looking for free streams. I just thought their were one or two legitimate sites where you pay a monthly fee to stream games online.

NBC sports stream all games for free you just need a VPN. I'm not sure on the legality of it.

He's a big physical lump type forward. Should only sign him if stokeball is the long term plan.

That's judging him on height alone. He's nothing like that. Wolfsburg play better football than United and rarely rely on hoofing it. He's a natural poacher, with good movement, surprisingly good technique for a man of his height and an eye for goal.

I'm being a little unkind to him tbh but he doesn't have particularly great movement and isn't all that mobile. I watch a lot of Wolfsburg and he's a decent player but they're a team built around their very good midfield. I'd view him as a worse version of giroud.

Form is temporary though, on current form Di Maria would struggle to get in a League 1 team, yet we know he is a much better then what he is showing. The guy you mention is having a purple patch now obviously, wouldn't be enough to turn many heads over a 6 game sample though.

Ok, can I just take a second to get this right in my head. Are you seriously suggesting that the man of the match in last seasons champions league final and the player who has the second most assists in the premier league would struggle to get onto a League 1 team?

If so, please vacate your current location or in layman's terms, GTFO.

It's a fair comment. He probably wouldn't make the bench at Galway FC if he displayed the same attitude he's had in recent weeks.

He's dead right. He need not get the f*ck out of anywhere.

Take away his name and reputation and he likely isn't getting selected on the back of his current form. He's just not playing well enough.

Rojo celebrating Estudiantes scoring yesterday, not sure why he's in a Barca jersey but he's bat**** insane and thats why we love him

The important thing to note is where he said "on current form"

I'm sorry, but I just read Mata's blog for this week, he finished with this:
however, the ones we really have to praise are those who give their time altruistically in order to build a more equitable society.

Hugs to all and have a nice week.

    You should have taken longer.

Saw this on reddit earlier. Scholes v Arsenal aged 36, still making football look so simple.

I remember screaming at the TV when Rooney made a mess of that chance and didn't even hit the target, sublime build-up.

    I miss Scholes.

most underrated player ever to play in England, a ****ing genius

Don't think he was under rated at all. While Sven and the punditry muppets kept debating how to play Gerrard and Lampard together, the debate should have been which one to play alongside Scholes.

Don't think they will see a team with potential like that for a few generations, total wasters.

Yeah thinking about the teams they could have fielded with players at the top of their games they should have won something really. 2006 you had Liverpool, United, Chelsea and Arsenal all doing well in Europe and a team made up of mainly players from those teams. That must be sickening. The next generation coming through for them aren't bad but no real top defenders like you had with Neville, Rio, Terry, Cole as your back 4...

I don't even think playing all 3 of them was the problem. They were 3 of England's best players. You could easily pick a system that suites them all but they insisted playing 442 cos it's England. Scholes ended up on the wing a lot when he should have been the heart beat of the team.
