Great episode! Clever that, switching between Linda and Dean's versions. Does Shirley really believe him?? He really sounded delusional.

I think Shirley has doubts after speaking to Linda and now hearing Dean's version too

Very good episode, well acted by all

The actress playing Linda is doing a fantastic job. Found myself getting a bit emotional during her statement.

I think that's the crux of the whole thing in his warped mind it was like they were about to start a relationship and it was what Linda wanted.

Yeah, it's not a case of him being so calm and cool about what he did because he's evil and cold and calculated and all that it's that he genuinely thinks he didn't rape her.

Very good episode, the actress playing Linda is playing a blinder.

Anyone notice she said she was born in 1977, Nancy is 21 which means she had her at 17 so what age was she when she had Lee!

Don't know why Corrie are surprised at their lack of awards noms this year, they should take note - this is how to do drama & do it well.

Between Linda's story & the Lucy Beale murder,EastEnders has really been phenomonal lately. Only soap & only characters I really care about watching at the mo.

Yep. There's been a lot of speculation about that, on boards (earlier pages of this thread) and elsewhere... that apparently (if I remember correctly) they had their first kid when Linda was about 14, had 3 kids AND owned a pub by 19...

think general feeling was that they should've made Linda and Mick (who's also 37 in the soap) even a couple of years older, so it's not so ridiculous.

I think Shab's has a baby in Afghanistan

She said she ran a lot when she was home she was never fat ?

    Just a theory

When was Shabnam in Afghanistan? Did she go there from Pakistan?

Linda said last night that the vic was their first pub that they owned and that they were with her mam in Watford until then

They never owned at pub at 19. It has been mentioned a number of times since they first appeared that they worked in Linda's mothers pub and the Queen Vic is the first pub they owned.

She had Lee when she was 15,Nancy when she was 16 & Johnny, when she was 18. It's not the norm sure but it's by no means ridiculous either. It does obviously happen in society so should naturally be portrayed in a soap opera too imo. Plenty of young girls have a couple of kids in their teens, most end up single mums on benefits with not the best life or prospects. If anything,I think it's kind of nice that Eastenders are showing a different side to it - that sometimes it can work out & a teenage couple can stay together,be good responsible parents & go on to have a happy family.

And they lived with Linda's mum Elaine in her pub in Watford. The Vic is the first pub they've owned themselves.

mick and linda DID have their own pub. it was burned down by shirley 15 years ago. They made reference that they had only been a couple of years in the pub meaning they acquired it when they were 19 or 20.

at the same time (ie when they were20) they had a 6 year old, a four year old and a 3 year old. Money to buy/acquire a licence for a pub.

I dont care whether its biologically possible it is stretching realism boundaries. they should have just left it at 2 kids maybe.

Glad Linda has told the police. I was hoping that Shirley wouldn't believe Dean. Can't believe he lying and twisting things. Mick and their family and Elaine saw how Linda behaved so surely they could back her up on it.

    I think Shirley believes linda

I thought she might have but didn't think she did. She do anything to have Dean in her life but she try her best to support Mick. I don't know how its going to pan out. She could hand Dean in or something but he says linda didn't say no but linda told Shirley she said no so I am not sure who she believes. I know if shirely knew the truth she would hand dean into the police. I think shirely would hazard a guess at this stage that dean has issues with her and vented it through linda. Maybe shirely might see that.

It's possible Mick and Linda had their own pub at a young age given the way a lot of pubs are actually brewery owned in the UK. The people running them just pay rent so of they had a bit of money to get the lease in the first place they could easily have had a pub at that age.

The pub that Shirley accidentally burnt down was Elaine's pub The Jester, which Mick & Linda were managing. Linda & Stan visited it a while ago & it was derelict & boarded up.

They then moved to a different pub in Watford, which is where Elaine still is now, called The Lady And The Owl.

Not at all unrealistic that they would embrace the family business as a stable platform from which to raise a young family, especially given Mick's unstable childhood.

of course its possible. but its hard to conceive that mick Carter, a troubled boy brought up in care with 3 young kids would be granted a licence and where he would of got the funds to acquire same lease. this was mid late 1990s remember that he would have started running it. what were the brewery laws then??

also, mick was briught up in care. was he adopted ? when he had his kid at 14 what happened? did he move in with Lindas parents and live off them whilst continuing to impregnate her!! i mean, how did they survive!

ps, i am only having a laugh at this! i love picking holes at stories and this life of mick andd linda is like a bog road with all its pot holes!

Yeah I find that part really hard to believe, they should have put a four or five year age gap between Lee and Nancy to make it more realistic.

I don't know,I think it's good to show different family set-ups coz that's society really isn't it,all kinds of everything! I don't think you can say that couples that leave four or five years between their children is "more realistic" than couples who have kids in quick succession. In the 1990's Britain was the teen pregnancies capital of Europe so it's fairly accurate imo.

Mick & Linda were working in her mum's pub so would've made their living that way & also had support & help with their young family. I'd say with Mick being brought up in care & then by Aunt Babe,he probably craved family-life and so after falling pregnant with Lee & getting on ok,they just carried on.

I know it's not the norm but it does happen too so why not portray it? I like that about EastEnders, covers all walks of life.

Mick could have been up on rape charges himself having sex with an underage girl.
