EastEnders favourite Jessie Wallace is to make a sensational return to Albert Square.
The actress, who played feisty barmaid Kat Slater in the soap, has told friends she is heading back to Walford in the role that made her famous.
A BBC source revealed: “Jessie is very excited about playing Kat again. She’s been off screen for a few years and a lot has happened since she was last in the show.
“She feels the time is right for a return and says she can’t wait to get back into the Square and stuck into some meaty storylines.”

I really dont see Kat working without Alfie

Aw, Alfie!!! They need a loudmouth like Kath back! Roxy and Ronnie seem to be poor alternatives, as is Shirley!

If Kat returns back without Alfie won't that be a slap in the face to her happy fairytale ending that she waited for so long to get and then finally achieved it with him?

I don't actually want her back. She's too gobby.

Can't remember when Kat left. did she leave with Alfie? I remember him leaving the square and Kat had packed her suitcase 'just in case' but he never asked her to come with him.

Didn't she go to America or something after that?

And where are the rest of the Slaters? Zoe, Little Mo, Lynn?

Former EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook is to make a shock comeback to Albert Square as Sam Mitchell.
Despite Kim Medcalf being the last actress to play the character, the 35-year-old is due to return to filming with the soap this summer.
The Mitchell sibling was last seen escaping to Brazil pending the trial for Den Watts's murder.
Speaking of her comeback, Westbrook told The Sun: "I'm really happy - it feels just like coming home.
"I'm looking forward to working with the others and I can't wait to get the scripts to see what Sam has been up to since she was last in the Square."
Executive producer Diederick Santer added: "It feels like a great time to bring back Sam."
Last month, it was rumoured that producers at the Walford soap were in talks with Westbrook in the hope of penning a return which would be "the talk of soapland for months".
Another of the soap's returnees Patsy Palmer, who plays Bianca Jackson, subsequently revealed that she would 'love for Danniella to return to the show'.

The other actress who played Sam was so much better

If Sam returns doesnt she go straight to jail for her part in Den's murder and cover up

Daniella Westbrook has adenoid problems (nowt to do with the single nostril thing) something similar to Sarah Platt...very bunged up snottery people when they cry. The other one to play Sam looks like a duck.....the lips continue up the sides of her face after her actual mouth ends..like the Joker a bit.

Nick Cotton gets his comeuppance when he tries to cause trouble for the Mitchell clan.

The Albert Square waster causes *Billy and Phil to have a massive bust-up – but then they turn on him.

It all starts when badboy Nick blackmails Billy for £200 by threatening to tell Jay the truth about his dad’s death.

Our Walford source said: “Billy has felt guilty ever since Jason died because he knows that instead of saving himself he could have done more to help Jason.

“He’s terrified Jay will find out about it and is under pressure to come up with the pay-off.”

Heading back to the Vic, desperate *Billy takes £100 from Phil’s *wallet – but Phil walks in and catches him.

In the confrontation that follows, Phil hits Billy, blaming him for stealing all the cash that’s missing from the pub’s till.

Our source said: “Billy reveals Nick is blackmailing him and Phil decides to give him a chance.

“The two are cousins after all – and the Mitchells always stick together.

“They have a frank talk and Billy says he’s doing everything he can for Jay. He *admits the guilt surrounding Jase’s death is getting too much for him.”

Later, after downing a bottle of whisky, Phil bumps into Nick.

Leading him up the alleyway, Phil bundles him into the barrel store of the Vic *before really going for him.

But will a boozed-up Phil go further than even he meant this time?

Fans can see Nick being given a pummelling on Thursday May 21 at 7pm on BBC1.

EastEnders is to explore mental illness in one of its hardest-hitting storylines yet.

Stallholder Stacey is diagnosed with bipolar disorder - formerly called manic depression - following her increasingly erratic behaviour since the death of a friend.

In tonight and tomorrow's episodes of the hit BBC1 soap, Stacey, whose mum Jean has mental health problems, moves closer to breaking point.

Lacey Turner, 21, who plays the character, said: "It's great that EastEnders is continuing to raise awareness of this difficult issue. I hope I can do justice to this challenging storyline."

The soap's executive producer Diederick Santer added: "Stacey is a character of highs and lows, of great passions and dark moods.

"This week, those contrasts become bigger and we realise her mood is far more complex than simply being upset about her friend's death."

EastEnders has worked with charities such as Mind on the sensitive storyline.

Mind's Paul Farmer, who hopes it will help dispel some myths surrounding mental illness, said: "It's fantastic that a highprofile soap is prepared to explore a mental health issue through such a popular, well-loved character."

EastEnders newcomer Syed Masood is to embark on a gay love affair with caterer Christian Clarke.

Penniless Muslim property developer Syed, played by actor Marc Elliott, will find himself torn between his feelings and faith after sharing a gay screen kiss with Jane Beale's (Laurie Brett) brother Christian (John Partridge). The pair will then launch into a full-blown love affair.

The story will primarily focus on Syed's struggles to come to terms with his sexuality as a practising Muslim.

Describing the plot as a "traditional love affair, albeit with a modern multicultural twist", the show's production team has conducted a large amount of research into the issues surrounding such a taboo topic.

EastEnders executive producer Diederick Santer said: "We've always tried to make EastEnders reflect modern life in multicultural Britain and we've always told social issue stories relevant to our diverse audience.

"This isn't a moral tale of right or wrong; it's very much a human interest story where a young man struggles with the conflict between his faith and his feelings."

He continued: "In this regard, it's not dissimilar to the story we told when Dot Cotton's deeply-held Christian beliefs came into conflict with her desire to alleviate Ethel's suffering [in a euthanasia plotline].

"To all intents and purposes, Syed's a 'good' Muslim man: he doesn't drink, smoke or engage in sex before marriage. But he struggles with his sexuality when he finds himself drawn to Christian and he believes this goes against his faith.

"This is not a story about Syed and Christian's physical relationship - we don't see anything beyond one kiss. It's more about the inner turmoil and conflict Syed endures trying to remain true to his faith while questioning his sexuality."

He added: "Syed has already been ostracised from his family and community once and if he's true to his heart he risks losing his family again."

Syed was first seen in the Walford soap at the end of last month when his mother Zainab (Nina Wadia) made contact with him for the first time in four years.

Soon after his debut, viewers met his screen girlfriend Amira Shah (Preeya Kalidas), who failed to meet his mother's high standards. More recently, Zainab has been seen attempting to set Syed up on dates with her friend's numerous daughters.

During the extensive research period, University of Nottingham sociology professor Dr Andrew Kam-Tuck Yip and Adnan Ali, head of Al-Fatiha, an international organisation for gay Muslims, were consulted.

Meanwhile, a Gallup poll conducted earlier this month revealed that none of the 500 Muslims interviewed believe that homosexuality is morally acceptable.

I'm sure his mother will love that

BBC soap EastEnders has cast its first ever adult disabled actor.

Wheelchair user David Proud will take on the role of Manda Best's (Josie Lawrence) son Adam, a 20-year-old self-obsessed, snobbish Oxford University student who arrives in Walford during the holidays to stay with his mother.

Upon his arrival on the Square, Adam quickly forms a low opinion of Manda's boyfriend Minty (Cliff Parisi), while there's an intellectual meeting of minds as he's introduced to Libby Fox (Belinda Owusu).

Both character and actor suffer from Spina Bifida, a developmental birth defect which results in an incomplete formation of the spinal cord.

Speaking of his casting, the 26-year-old said: "I'm delighted and honoured to be joining such a talented cast. I'm very excited and looking forward to bringing the character to life."

Executive producer Diederick Santer said: "I'm delighted to welcome David to EastEnders. He's a fine young actor with a wonderfully dry comic delivery playing an interesting and possibly rather irritating character. I'm sure he and his character Adam will be strong additions to EastEnders.

"In recent years, we've had a number of regular and guest characters with disabilities, some of them children like Janet Mitchell and more recently Syd's son, Noah. We've also told the story of Jean Slater who suffers from bipolar disorder."

He added: "But this is the first time we've had a regular adult character with a visible disability played by an actor with a disability. It's about time."

Proud begins filming within the next few weeks and will make his screen debut in the autumm.

After Garry relents, the pair sail off with Dawn’s daughter Summer in the episode to be shown in July.

EastEnders Phil Mitchell, played by Steve McFadden, is set to have a new love interest in the soap. Warning: spoiler alert.

According to the Mirror, a source said: "Minty is totally paranoid that Manda still fancies old flame Phil, and thinks they could be having a fling.

"He follows Phil to the Arches convinced he's going to find the pair of them together. When he gets there he sees something terrible - but it's not what he expected."

Minty discovers that Phil is enjoying secret trysts with Garry's fiancée Dawn.

They added: "She's always been a sucker for money and power and Phil has both.

"Minty is left in the awful position of having to decide who he should tell. One thing's for certain, he won't want to see Garry get hurt."

This could mark the beginning of Ricky Groves (Garry) and Kara Tointon (Dawn) final storyline in the soap as they are due to leave 'EastEnders' later this summer.

In their final scenes, Garry jilts Dawn on their wedding day but apparently she rushes after him to stop him leaving.

An 'EastEnders' insider said viewers will have to "wait and see" if it's a happy ending.

Phil Mitchell is not a happy bunny in EastEnders towards the middle of the month when he walks in on his mum Peggy (Barbara Windsor) kissing Archie (Larry Lamb).

Having originally ousted Archie from the Square in April, Phil returns to Walford from holiday with his son Ben (Charlie Jones) and can't believe it when he sees Archie escorting Peggy back to The Vic from their meal. Seizing the opportunity to warn Archie again, Phil insists that he's still not welcome on the Square. Archie, however, maintains that he'll leave when Peggy tells him that there's no future for them.

Having acquired a gun, Phil intends to use force to coax him to leave - as if the cement mixer and blow torch weren't enough! However, when he walks into the flat, he's stunned to see Archie and Peggy kissing.

Peggy tries to reason with her son, but Phil's not willing to listen. Despite having 'promised' not to hurt Archie, Phil pops round to his flat and issues him with a final warning: leave Walford or die.

As a parting shot, Phil drops a bullet into Archie's whiskey glass. Will Archie live to regret defying Phil?

what is wrong with this woman. This would destroy one of my favourite soap storylines of the year; the ronnie and danielle storyline

For months, EastEnders newcomer Neil McDermott has been named only as 'man' on the credits but his identity has now finally been revealed.

Ladies and gentlemen - as most of the online community have already guessed, Ryan is indeed Whitney's half-brother.

Until now, Whitney - played by Shona McGarty - has believed her male follower to be her knight in shining armour.

We saw Ryan fend off Whitney's potential love interest Todd Taylor (Ashley Kumar) back in February and then at the beginning of last month, he rugby tackled Nick Cotton (John Altman) to the ground before the café exploded.

However, in a fortnight's time, Whtiney's handsome stranger reveals his true identity to his half-sister.

So what do we know about Ryan? Well, he's nine years older than Whitney and they both have the same mother in Debra Dean (Ruth Gemmell). Surprisingly for soap, Ryan has "something of a dark past" and when Whitney starts asking questions about his life, Ryan immediately clams up. He's a closed, moody character and quick-witted kind of a guy, but certainly won't back away from potential trouble.

Ryan has an eye for the ladies, too. Anyone in particular, I hear you cry? Well, Ronnie Mitchell's (Samantha Womack) on the top of his proverbial 'to do' list...

A thief by nature, Ryan apparently doesn't stay in the same place for too long. So will he be hanging around for a while in Walford? He's certainly there for something - and if it's not his sister, then what?

Speaking of his role, McDermott said: "I was really excited when I joined EastEnders and it's great that the viewers will finally learn who Ryan is and what he's all about."

Executive producer Diederick Santer added: "Neil is a charismatic young actor playing an intriguing and complex character. While incognito, he made a big impression on EastEnders viewers. Now they know who he actually is, I'm sure things will get even more exciting."

Weddings never go to plan on Albert Square and it seems that funerals are no different.

Events take a dramatic turn in Walford when Stacey Branning causes a scene at Trina Johnson's burial.

After the coffin is lowered into the ground Stacey (Lacey Turner) turns up ranting and raving.

Wearing a tiny miniskirt, she proceeds to accuse everyone all of burying Lucas's wife alive.

The situation is only made worse when Denise tries to calm her down and the pair end up fighting.

Stacey then jumps into the grave on top of the coffin screaming and shouting: 'You've buried her and she's still alive'.

She frantically claws at the coffin before clambering out of the grave and running away.

Trina Johnson was the estranged wife of Lucas Johnson and a drug addict who was so addicted to heroin her son was born addicted to the drug too.

She turned up on Albert Square earlier this year to try and disrupt Lucas' planned marriage to Denise.

The storyline is the latest twist in Stacey's fight with bipolar, which causes her to act erratically.

Stacey has been on a downward spiral in recent months since the death of her best friend Danielle Jones (Lauren Crace) and her brother Sean (Robert Kazinsky) going missing in January after discovering his wife Roxy Mitchell's (Rita Simons) baby Amy wasn't his child.

Lacey, who plays Stacey, says of the bipolar storyline: 'I think its great that EastEnders is continuing to raise awareness of this difficult issue.

'With the research that EastEnders has done with these charities, I hope that I can do justice to this challenging storyline.'

EastEnders' Ronnie Mitchell is to get a blast from the past when her first love Joel Reynolds turns up in Albert Square.

Star of BBC Three's Pulling, Cavan Clerkin will take on the role of Ronnie's (Samantha Womack) old flame and father to her now-dead daughter Danielle Jones (Lauren Crace).

As the only remaining link to Danielle, Ronnie's previously toyed with the idea of meeting up with him and even attended a school reunion with Christian (John Partridge) in the hope that he would be there.

When he failed to show, she subsequently turned up on his doorstep wishing to talk through their past. However, as one of his daughters answered the door, Ronnie bolted from the scene.

With Janine (Charlie Brooks) and Archie (Larry Lamb) scheming behind Ronnie's back in a bid to manipulate her back into the family fold, she's dumbfounded when she finds Joel sat before her in The Vic.

Archie's livid by Janine's interference, while Ronnie's somewhat taken by his reappearance in her life. Will they manage to pick up where they left off all those years ago?

Speaking of his new role, Clerkin said: "It's fantastic being on set in Albert Square, it's such an iconic place and I'm really enjoying working with the wonderful cast, especially Samantha Womack. Joel is a nice guy who fantasises about a future with an amazingly beautiful woman, so that's something a lot of men may relate too!"

Executive producer Diederick Santer commented: "We first heard about Joel - Ronnie's childhood sweetheart and the father of Danielle - nearly two years ago. And finally we get to see him."

He added: "Cavan Clerkin is a delightful and subtle actor with a big funny bone. He's grabbed this enigmatic and rather odd character and made it his own."

Clerkin makes his screen debut as Joel on Thursday, August 6

Garry Hobbs delivers a knockout blow to his love rival Phil Mitchell when he discovers he’s been bedding his bride Dawn Swann.

    #bodycopy a { font-size: 12px; }

Doting mechanic Garry is on his way to marry the love of his life when realises his wife-to-be and hardman Phil have been carrying on behind his back.

In classic Walford style, nothing goes according to plan when Garry and his ushers drive out of the Square on their way to the wedding ceremony.

And given an ultimatum by unlucky-in-love Garry, harlot Dawn leaves him in no doubt about where her true affections lie – leading to him punching Phil to the ground. Our Albert Square insider said: “Garry is on his way to the wedding when his ‘cool’ act finally fails.

“He yells for Phil to stop the car, gets out and runs over to Dawn who is getting into her car in her wedding gown.

“She’s really shocked to see him and tries her best to hide herself so Garry doesn’t see the dress and spoil the big day. It’s then that Garry looks her sternly in the eye and asks her directly, ‘Do you love me?’

“Very tellingly, a gobsmacked Dawn stares back at him, unable to answer.”

When Dawn turns to look at Phil it’s all the evidence that Garry needs of her betrayal.

Distraught, he utters the words: “And there you have it.”

But he doesn’t leave it there.

He turns to Phil and throws a punch that leaves him flat out on the ground.

The dramatic wedding episode will be screened on Tuesday August 25.
