I don't agree but I respect your point of view. Children have a right to have a childhood sheltered from avoidable adult pursuits. Don't I know how all too soon its all over. :(

What do you think the damage will be? My kids would see people kissing, they'd see people hugging, straight and gay. They don't notice half the time. As adults we can see things and assume our kids see them the same way when they barely notice. And if they do so what? A quick glance at a couple snogging as you walk past won't have any lasting damage.

Nope, haven't seen one person put out by it actually. Put out by its irrelevance, which is nothing to do with homophobia.

That's right. The people who seem to care an awful lot about how much they don't care about it.

There are lots of posters who genuinely don't care about this story. I would doubt they read past the opening page though, never mind commented.

Mrsbyrne if you really want your kids to not be affected by it stop making such a big deal about it, you'll just end up giving them a complex about it which it sounds like you yourself have in spades

Is Mrs Simon Coveney not posh enough for you? Or Mrs Brendan Howlin?

Wasn't aware of bunga bunga parties in Ireland, please do tell.

Does it matter if they do or don't? I said IF they had them they would be relevant. In general a politicians personal life doesn't matter but sometimes it does.

I don't think anyone cares about the private life of any politican regardless of their sexual preference.

The media appears to be obsessed by it, but the vast majority of people are more interested in their own lives.
If Lucinda announced she was expecting another child and someone posted it on boards, I'm am sure that there would be I don't care comments on that as well.

No. I imagine to would be just a short lived thread. People who don't care don't comment.

When a story is the subject of almost 700 comments in less than 24 hours, never mind being a major news story both here and abroad, then it's pretty clear people are very much interested in this news.

    Pretending otherwise is just stupidity.

He has stated that an impending issue in the area of health was the reason for his breaking out of the closet but Has anyone asked the minister if he is or was a blood doner?

Main headline on the rte site is about a five year old girl dying in a car accident. That's as it should be and as Varadker himself, I'm sure, would want.
All news bulletins have led with the ministers announcement of his homosexuality, considering that most of those that would matter to the minister already knew why did the fine gayle news service(RTE NEWS) give the stunt such importance?

Im still waiting for you to answer the question. Are you happy to sit beside me groping my husband's man bits while your Aunty Mary eats her egg mayonnaise or not?
Egg mayonnaise is bad enough without the aunty Mary dribbling it all down her front!

I have one kid. She's 17. Thankfully she and her friends mostly seem to have enough self-esteem self respect and dignity to keep their teenage rummaging out of public view.

If FG/Lab don`t get r-elected it will be due to Labour reneged on their policies and FG carrying out FFs bailout policies to the letter, plus throwing in a few nasties of their own. There was also the supposedly new openess that became a four member economic council ruling the state, plus the same old strokes and cronyism.

I was responding to a poster who suggest mandatory term limits for political parties.

TBH I`m not sure if it`s Varadkar or Mrs Byrne that has racked up the comments

Yes and obviously you must think that your "rights" are paramount and override anybody else's entitlement to expect decent and appropriate behaviour out and about in general society.

Oh, I don't engage in such behaviour.

But I think you will find that people are legally entitled to kiss in public - even with tongue.

And while you have a right to be offended by it, or even complain to them, you don't have any right to stop it.

If you would rather a society which didn't permit couples to publicly show their affection, I would recommend somewhere in the Middle East.

Nobody should be eating egg mayonnaise or egg salad sandwiches in public - it's disgusting! They usually stink!

They should only ever be eaten in the privacy of your own home, under an extractor fan.

Frankly, I'd far prefer to be sitting beside a couple (gay or straight) wearing the face off each other than some auld-one eating egg sandwiches!

I am utterly lost - what is it you do not want to see and how is Leo's news relevant? You mentioned you don't want to see blowjobs and french kissing. Does that apply to all or just gay people?

No it doesn't. People only care about what that politician can do for them in terms of tax cuts, improved services medical cards etc.

As long as the politician doesn't do something illegal, most people would find something like a bunga bunga party amusing\entertaining but not enough to affect voting intentions.

It's the day job that matters.

Yes my own right to expect people to behave in a decent manner in public trumps your desire to express your lust in public. Yes it most certainly does. I'm glad we agree.

You have a right to expect things. You don't have any right whatsoever to have your expectations meet.

You're clearly the only one upset, you jumped to jocmilt's defence.
I do think Leo will top the poll and become a leader of FG.
Nonsensical. I am upset because I'm saying I'm not upset after being accused of being upset? If I call you an ocelot, if you deny it can I use that as definitive proof that you are one?

It's a slippery slope! First it's egg sandwiches, then it's egg sandwiches with onions, then it's egg sandwiches with garlic mayo and scallions!

If they go really hardcore : pickled eggs !

Wait so whats your problem then? You think your 17 year old is gonna suddenly run around town after every person she finds attractive cus she saw one couple kissing with tongue?

It really just sounds like you yourself have some weird issues with PDA and are using your child as an excuse

Apologies. I wouldn`t favour that scenario myself. Some politicans are bone idle enough without encouraging them further.

I have no idea how snogging became a gay issue.

I think most adults would look at anyone, straight or gay, who were dry humping in public and think "Get a room".

I' also wondering how a thread about Leo led to this. I find it hard to imagine anyone, upon hearing his announcement, thinking that now it's ok to have foreplay in public.

This thread has jumped the shark.

I wouldn't want my children to see people eating them all over the place and think its normal, to be honest now.

I have a 17 yr old too. I've never seen her even hold her girlfriends hand but I wouldn't read anything into that. I'm sure like most teens they are a lot different away from home. Your daughter has probably seen plenty even if she's not doing it herself.

Mate, just to let you know that I don't think your post means what you think it means :)
    "nonplussed
    nɒnˈplʌst/Submit
    adjective
    1.
so surprised and confused that one is unsure how to react."

Also, congrats on your new potential to marry an elected Government Minister (after the referendum passes). He is quite easy on the eye.

Will people be able to marry egg mayonnaise if the gheys can get married?

Seriously though - you could see a lot worse than a couple being romantic and getting a bit cuddly.

Imagine! Children seeing humans behave normally and in a loving way... they might turn out normal!

    Or worse: continental!

Honestly though, if you've an issue with PDAs, NEVER EVER visit Italy!

The bunga bunga parties had under age girls. Plus they were with people who gained a lot of influence.

On the other hand you have a politician like John Edwards. He was campaigning on being a family man. It turns out he was cheating on his wife who had cancer and was funnelling off money from his campaign to support his illegitimate child. His actions were in direct contradiction to his campaign platform.

That's not to mention all the republican politicians in the US who were staunchly anti gay but were found to be having homosexual affairs.

Generally a politician, their family, children etc should be off grounds. However if they are claiming to be one thing but in private are doing another that's wrong. If someone has an affair, gay or straight it shouldn't matter unless they are publicly saying something else.
