Great session Beef, what's the target in HM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,182 ✭✭✭Beef

Cheers Sam, hoping for 1:39:XX and if I hit that I'll be happy as Larry. It's a reasonably tough course with some long drags so I think it's doable but not easy. Exactly how you'd want it to be I suppose in order to try and improve.

It's in the bag Beef based on that session! Now you go set me a target for my next Half. ;-)

Great session, 9 miles at HMP is too scary for me in training. You'll nail it on the day, just make sure you recover from this session properly!!

Cheers fellas I hope so. I'll be taking it easy between now and the race - apart from a small session with a couple of miles @ HMP next wednesday and maybe a few strides for turnover early next week. I'm aiming to be fresh for the race and subsequent drinking.

After that it's in the lap of the Gods. :)

That target looks soft on the back of that session! And no I personally wish all races were easier and completely flat! Lazy strap I am!

    Well?

1:42:23. Very bad day! I'm still not sure what went wrong but I was shagged after 9 miles really. Still a PB by 80 seconds or so but obviously not even close to what I wanted.

Average heart rate was 170bpm and maxed out at 185bpm. For the 9mile tempo run I did a couple of weeks ago it was 157bpm and my maximum was 168bpm. Maybe that was simply down to the tough course but I didn't feel "right" on the day.

Dust myself down and move on! ;)

Sorry to hear you had a bad day but congrats on the PB. I'm sure it'll be a different story the next time out, just one of those days. We all get them at some stage.

Well done on the Pb but you deserved a much better time than that. With how your training was going I would have put money on you going sub 1:40. Onwards and upwards!

    Happy new year!

Happy new year everyone! I'm still alive but not running as many miles... :) Only getting in 25-30 mpw but that will change in 2015 hopefully. A lot of goings in with a new house, a new job and all the upheavals that that entailed. I had a great year running wise, even if it tapered off quite drastically. I finished the year on a bit of a mini-high with my first ever 5K (20:33 while still Christmas party drunk) and a pb in the local 4 miler (26:55). :)

Next year will be about building up to a marathon again but first I want to concentrate on getting the mileage back up to ~40 miles per week and aim for some shorter races (from 4/5k to 10K, 10 miles and then a half).

    Goals for 2015
    5K 19:XX
    10K 42:XX
    Half 1:3X
    Full 3:3X

A sincere thanks to all who offered their sage advice this past year, especially meno and his marathon plan. I really need to engage more going into 2015 and not let the log slip. Best of luck to you all and hopefully all your running goals are met!

    Thanks Sam! :)

Managed to break the magical 30 miles for last week.

    Tue 30/12
    5.5 easy

    Wed 31/12/14
8 miles w/ 4 at HMP pace then pub

    Thu 01/01/15
    Giant dinner then Pub

    Fri 02/01/15
Away with the missus in Cork. Pub.

There was a pattern emerging. And a belly to go with it.

    Sat 03/01/15
3.6 easy (I convinced myself this would help alleviate "the fear")

    Sun 04/01/15
10.2 hilly enough miles. Absolute torture. Tried a new route and got chased by most of the dogs in South Tipperary.

    Mon 05/01/15
    4 miles recovery.

    Tue 06/01/15
"Warrenpoint running" (Dundalk for work actually - but who am I to argue with Garmin)

    8 miles w/ 5 at HMP.

This felt good but I got a small bit lost!

Nice to see you back beef and good luck with your targets.

I've left the log slide again - busy couple of weeks.

The plan has been to slowly start building the miles again since the start of 2015 and it's been going grand apart from some slight Plantar issues that have re-emerged. Golf balls and ice (sounds like something from Pulp Fiction) are starting to do the trick again though, along with early morning stretches.

The last 3 weeks have seen a nice progression with 31,32 and 36 miles respectively as week end totals with the long run gradually increasing to 13 miles. That was last Saturday morning's group run with the club and I can't get over how much easier it is to run in a group. It was a nice tough run up the "mountain road" out of Clonmel which is a route I never would have considered doing on my own (and certainly not in the snow :)) but I really enjoyed it. Here was the view where we finished up and turned back.

Yesterday I finished off the week with 4 easy miles and happy enough with another decent week. I'll level off at 40 mpw and keep it that way until I figure out what marathon I want to do. :)

Gah - just when I was starting to get going again I picked up a nasty cold.
Tried 5 miles with a buddy of mine last night with some strides and I'm worse today so I've decided to do nothing till I feel better.

    Enforced step back week. :)
