    That's bad luck tang.

While you're off you should give some serious thought to an alternative form exercise. Running is not worth it if you keep putting your body under that type of stress.

That's ****e luck Tang! Mind yourself.

that's a woeful run of luck Barry - you'll get it back in 2015, you deserve to.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I've had same injury and was out of running for six months in total, but was able to cycle and kept my fitness up that way. Also use the time to work on core strength, so very important. I got exercises to do from physio (Mark) and if I do them about three times per week I am grand, but if I miss them for a week or two (which I have done recently) stiffness in my hips comes back. He told me that would be the way.

At least its winter time, not as bad as being off for the summer and you'll be flying again by spring time.

So two months on, zero running, but loads of rehab regarding my hip. As well as the stress fractures, i have a torn labrum in my left hip. I have been in the gym on the exercise & spinning bike trying to improve strength in my left hip also using resistance bands and others exercises to help things.

The pain is minuscule compared to what it was two months ago, but there is still pain there from time to time. As Gavlor has stated above, if this recovery does not work i'll be stepping away from running. I cant keep tellIng my 3 year old that Dad cant chase him cause his hip is paining him. With another on the way, i aint going to sacrifice my kids for a pastime, although i enjoy, i'm not very good at.

So i'm due for my first run tomorrow on advice of my physio, we'll see how it goes. On a brighter note, i was involved in a 'high speed' car chase last night which resulted in a foot chase where the driver was nabbed by moi, hip felt good and BMW 7 series recovered in tack. Keep the fingers crossed for me tomorrow.

So technically your first run was last night! ;) Good job on both fronts. Best of luck with it and hope the recovery works out and you can continue to run, but makes total sense if it doesn't work out.

Best of luck Tang, hope your Mam is on the mend too! There is no telling a 3 year old you can't chase them, they don't get it!

Good stuff B. Hopefully things will work out well for you this time and you won't have to give it up. Maybe you should take up sprinting after your success in the foot chase!

Best of luck, B. I hope all goes well. Make sure if you do get some white smoke that you take it handy and get back into it slowly.

Some savage performances on the A/R forum today well done to all. I had intended getting out Thursday but cue two days solid at work putting an end to that. Got out this afternoon for the prescribed twenty mins. Got through it with minimal discomfort, i've been told to expect a bit of pain so not overly concerned with that at the minute.

I felt good during this & with all the work recently in the gym i dont think i've lost a huge amount of fitness. Another twenty five minutes running due Tuesday, gym and strength work between now and then.

Good stuff. Keep it steady and don't do anything daft! Fingers crossed for an injury free return.

Got two runs in this week, a 25 mins easy & 30 mins progression broken down into 3 x 10mins. Fastest pace i managed was 8.45m/m which is plenty fast for me at present. Was in the gym 3 other days this week on the spinning bike as well as my strength exercises.

Plan on racing a few duathlons next year to take the strain off running some what, thats as far into the 'dark side' i'll go as i dont plan on learning to swim anytime soon. Furthest my physio wants me to run race wise next year is 10mile/ Half which suits me, with baby no 2 due in under 6 weeks i'll be lucky to train for a Half.

So Cara Bundoran 10 mile & Mullingar 10 mile will be my goal races for 2015 all going well with the hip.

Double day today, an hours work in the gym including 30 mins on the static bike. Stretches & strength exercises for other half hour. We had a scan for baby this afternoon, all healthy and as it should be thank god. So was under pressure to get 30 mins easy running done before dark.

Set out with limited light but was well lit up, cue running in torrential rain. I love running in the rain, dont ask why, just do. Legs were a little tender, but nothing to bad, rather be sore from running than not. Hip was 3/10 pain wise, so hopefully moving in right direction.

Things are going well all around. Those 6 weeks won't be long passing and then you will say I thought we were busy with one but two......

I was told by a lad at work, having two is the same as having one, to say i told him he was stupid is being polite!!

I can confirm it's not. However going from 2 to 3 is nt as challenging..., I'm only saying. Anyways it's all good. Enjoy.

Good to hear that you're getting going again Tang. The variety in training is no harm at all. It will definitely take the strain off and the bike can keep the fitness up with low impact and great for active recovery. Ultimately I've found that an ounce of determination is better than a pound of talent. Once you're mentally strong, you never lose it and that's what counts when you're pushing the limits. The body will be right when it is right.

Good luck with the next addition to the family...exciting times but definitely more relaxed than the first, in my experience.

    2014 Summary:

It was a MEH year as far as running was concerned, i was never expecting any PBs but thought i deserved a bit of luck regarding injuries, that didn't transpire either for me i'm afraid. Suppose performance i'm most satisfied with was my last before injury struck again, the Clonmel Half Marathon. I probably performed better than i should on the day, cracking race i hope to be back to sometime.

I honestly have no clue what 2015 will bring, my hip is still causing me grief, it may never be 100% right again i've been told so i'll just have to make my peace with that. I will probably spend more time on the bike in 2015 than i will on my feet, i plan on training for a few races but wont be targetting times unless the my hip drastically improves.

Baby no 2 is due soon so training of anykind may be limited cause of that, 2014 was a BRILLIANT year cause of that. Thanks to those who have taken time to read & contribute to my log over past 12 months, very much appreciated believe me. I'll do my best to update as much as i can over next while, first race of 2015 shall be Bundoran 10 mile in March. Happy New Year to you all.

Quick update, still ticking over with gym work and cycling. Have ran 3 times since start of New Year, which is nothing compared to most around here, but its progress when it comes to me. Hip is improving day by day, it was seriously weak prior to rehab.

Early season goal is still Bundoran, there will be no time goal. Completion pain free is all i'll be looking for.

Keep up the good work tang.
Any reason you're heading all the way to Bundoran?

Cheers P. Its the wife's part of the country, its probably my favorite race in the whole country, its not fast by any stretch but has some beautiful scenery in parts & is a very well run and supported event.

Ah right. I hear it's the most beautiful county in Ireland, but would you believe I've never been there?

    Saturday 17.1.15

40mins easy, runs will be monitored by time on my feet rather than distance for the next while, no pain coming from the hip.

    Sunday 18.1.15

45 mins on the spinning bike in the gym, followed by weighted lunges, weighted squats, single leg hops and plenty of work using the resistance band.

    Monday 19.1.15

Rest, no choice due to work.

    Tuesday 20.1.15

    Same as Sunday.

    Wednesday 21.1.15

45 mins run, again no pain coming from the hip. Threw in a fast mile to see what i could push to, came in at 7.06, fooked after it and blowing like an over worked hooker!!

    Thursday 22.1.15

45 mins hard on the spinning bike, legs were feeling the fast mile from the day before. More weighted lunges and squats followed by my new best mate the resistance band. A lot of teenagers in the gym due to the teachers strike, one young lad caught my eye, he was lifting weights that he had no business lifting so asked him what he was doing it for? He produced a weights programme from a local GAA team for under 14s, WTF?? He was 7 stone soaking wet this lad and here was a local GAA team encouraging him to left weights, ridiculous if you ask me.

    Today

40 mins run, most comfortable run in a long time, could have done another 20 mins but soon put that idea to bed. Time to be sensible for once. So i doubled my quota of runs in the past week, running every second day is the plan from now on if i can.

In other news, i have gotten the privileged PM from ultraman1 to marshal at the Donadea 50k in a few weeks. Hopefully new baby will have arrived by then, hats off to the misus, allowed to go marshal at a race on Valentines Day with a new arrival possibly in the house. I'm sure she'll get me back!!!
