No more running this week, spend 6 hrs driving yesterday up and down to TbL country for a family anniversary mass. Hip wasn't best pleased, have been stretching the hamstrings out the past few days and its helped pain wise. Its still to sore i feel to run on and will only do more harm than good if i did. I'll give it as long as it takes. Frustrated to say the least!!

Song of the week - Area 51 'Let it move you'

    WTD-16miles
    MTD-108.52miles
    YTD-619.89miles

I'd imagine its only a minor niggle Tang, a few days rest may do you the world of good as you have had a decent spell of good training and solid racing.

    August Review:

Miles - 108.52 - again not the amount i had hoped to run, was hoping to get close to 150 mile mark this month but lost a week and a halfs running.

Races - 2 - Athboy 5k which was after a weeks heavy mileage for me, it was a decent performance if nothing else. Clonmel Half which went a little better than i had hoped, happy with my race considering the course profile & relatively warm day.

I'll be back on the road Monday with a vengeance, my hip feels good again so hopefully thats the back of that issue. I may not race the Athlone Half due to the hip, sorry Bulmers 74 i'll bow down to you this time. Last thing i want is have a year ending injury cause of not listening to my body AGAIN.

Smart move. See how things go. Maybe line up a different race later on to close out the season if ya can't race athlone?

I'll run Athlone at a conservative pace, wont exert myself in anyway. Will keep an eye out for another half later in the year alright, but it'll be hard to find one as flat as Athlone. Shame to see the shins still giving you sone jip.

Pity about Athlone. You're just not destined to race there :(

Are you working for this race?

Glad to hear the hip has improved. If you use the remainder of the year to continue building back up 2015 is going to be a brilliant year for you.

    Take it easy B.

    Hey Tang,
Probably the right call all things considered. I'll be easing back myself next week as with no rest day & two 70+ mile weeks since Clonmel I'm teetering on the edge :( Hopefully, if I haven't over cooked things, I'll be aiming for 1:31:xx in Athlone. As for a half later on during the year I'll probably do Waterford again in December if I come out of DCM unscathed if you want to go head to head ;)

Nice going, 70+ miles, thats two weeks mileage for me, would love if my body could take that!! I'll keep an eye out for you in Athlone, i'll keep Waterford in mind for later in the year, heard its a good race.

Noticing very small improvement each day. Still need the painkillers but not as often. On the plus side with all the back issues my hamstring will get plenty of time to recover.

At least small improvement is some improvement, as you said the hamstring will get plenty of time to sort itself out while the back lays you up to.

Quick update, 2 runs this week. Left hip worse as a result. Any participation in Athlone, be it at crawling pace even, is looking highly unlikely at this stage. Its painful walking at times, driving a car is sore to cause of the sitting position. Spending over 48 hrs stuck in ditches in Dublin & Meath the past week has not helped either i'd say.

May visit a physio to see what the issue is. Pi$$ed off is not something i get very often if i'm honest, but it does happen when i cant run. Will drop in with a diagnosis when i get one, best of luck to everyone racing this weekend.

Best of luck with it Tang, sounds like you'll have to bite the bullet and rest up till there's no pain

Take it handy, Tang. Work back into it slowly after some decent R&R.......and stay out of those ditches for a few weeks:)

sorry to hear that - hope it heals soon. You've had your share of injury.

If I could go back to May I would have done two things differently

    1) stop running sooner - I tried to convince myself I was doing no harm but there is no point at all trying to train when your in pain

    2) I should have started aquajogging sooner. It really helped. I think just being in the water for an hour is a big help even if you just splash around

Hope you get back running soon :)

Cheers K, for once believe it or not the minute i felt something was up i stopped, gave it week & half rest and tried few runs this week. Its worse now, i wont run another yard till i find out the problem. Before i would have kept running thinking i could run it off, i must be getting sense!! And all i can do in a pool is splash about, swim like a stone.

Its still sore, seen physio Monday morning past and she claimed my pelvic alignment was out and that was causing the hip pain. She worked on my lower back & hips for good 40 mins. I'm very skeptical of physios if i'm honest, the pain has eased since my visit but i dont think my pelvis alignment is causing the pain.

I cant run for another week at least, i'm in Clare for a week & a half from Sunday in Lisdoonvarna at the Matchmaking Festival, think i'll be having me some pints!!!

Yeah it can be hard not to be skeptical a lot of the time I agree. The best physio advice I ever got was from some strange bloke off the internet who I never met and it was free!
Good timing with the trip away then!
Hope you're back at it soon.
