    Monday 16.2.15

    7 miles@8.31min/mile

Easy run, got a signal on the watch pressed start & then just put the time on and ran by feel. Felt good and curbed the odd urge to push it once or twice. Delighted at how comfortable this felt.

    Tuesday 17.2.15

    Nothing

    Wednesday 18.2.15

3.54am this morning my wife and I were lucky enough to be blessed with our second child, the prettiest, cutest, most beautiful baby daughter you would ever see. Words cannot explain how happy i am.

Cheers for all the well wishes lads over the past few days, very very much appreciated. Mother and baby home and doing great.

    Yesterday 21.2.15

    3.05miles@8.52min/mile

Leg loosener for the race the following day, kept it good and handy. Everything feeling good.

    Today 22.2.15

    Runbrosna 10kish 48min 19sec

First of all i had no business running a race of anykind with the training i've been doing, no specific speed work done in ages and boy did i pay for it in spades today. This was one hilly bitch of a race and my legs could not handle them nor could my fitness, i was reduced a slow crawl in places today. This is by far the slowest 10k i have ever ran in a race. And to make it worse the course was short by .20 of a mile, no excuses for that. Where to now??

Will run the Bundoran 10mile next month but again i will just look to get through it, i would not do it only for its a race i love. After that i will look at doing a specific 10k plan with the goal being a 10k sometime in June and look to take at least 5-6 minutes off that rubbish time today. Will run a few 5ks and a 5mile in a build up to that. My running at the minute has no specific make or shape to it and that is doing me no good, cause i'm getting nowhere in a hurry. So if anybody has a suggestion of a fast 10k June time please say(cannot do Dunshaughlin).

I plan on racing no further than 10 mile this year, at a push i might do the Athlone Half if i can stay fit for a race that far ahead. Learned a lesson today that i already knew, you have to put the work in if you want to see results. Great to run a race again though.

    Monday 23.2.15

    3.15miles@9.27min/mile in 29min 42sec

Legs in ribbons for this, i honestly struggled to get through it the pain was that bad. Neglected hydrating properly after Sundays race & fell fowl to one or eight beers so this affected the legs somewhat.

    Wednesday 25.2.15

40 mins on cross trainer in gym to open the hips out a bit, feeling bit tight since Sunday and this appears to have done the trick. Work with resistance band & weighted stretches.

    Today 27.2.15

    5miles@7.57min/mile in 39min 45secs including 3mile steady progression.

Still peed off with Sundays performance, i know i'm way better than that so wanted to blow off a bit of steam. Handy one mile warm up then into 3 miles steady progression, first mile felt handy at 7.40, i never hit this pace once running last weeks race and here i was trotting along easily hitting it today. Mile two was 7.31 and included two short climbs and again felt sustainable.

Into last mile and watch was reading 6.4x at one stage, much to fast so eased off a bit. Knew the wind would slow me down in the last half mile of this so let that happen. Working a bit on last .25 of a mile but no means struggling, mile beeped at 7.15. Happy with that, at no times did i feel under pressure or struggle doing this. Mile to cool down.

Have decided to do a 12 week P&D 10k program after Bundoran to work towards something concrete. Have few 5ks picked out as tune up races, but have yet to settle on a 10k race. Have two in mind but not sure on which one yet.

There's a good local 10k on in my local area (Balla) in Mayo at the end of July.
Been going for about 22 years and manages to get some good runners at the sharp end as well as a good bunch in the 4x:xx zone.
It takes place around 7pm on a Sat evening which allows for a tasty few pints straight after!!
    Last year's race:

    Saturday 28.2.15

Gym again, 45mins on the spinning bike 2 x 10mins hard plus 4 x 2mins flat out with 30secs recovery inbetween. Sweat fest again, starting to get fed up of the gym but i know its helping me. Only the fact theres a few nice bits of tail to occupy the mind i would probably knock it on the head totally!!!

    Today 1.3.15

Pool with the eldest this morning and it helped the legs no end, he spent the morning running after girls, will have to watch that.

It was a decent week training wise given my circumstances. Only for my wife is so understanding and accommodating i'd be getting nothing done at all. Sooner i get the Bundoran 10 mile run the better so i can follow a solid plan with a bit of structure.

Song of the week - D'ream - Things can only get better.
