Lads, anyone have any idea why the engine light would pop up on a MK1 Yaris? Mine popped up this morning, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong performance/noise wise.

Could be a million reasons man, Best to get it plugged in.
If it's not bring affected, could have flagged something and it disappeared. May go out shortly.

Yeah it came up a few weeks ago and then promptly went off, this was after my brother drove it of course :pac:

I don't have the time right now to get it plugged in with the way my work shifts are, pain in the ass.

ECU - "Woah ****, there's actaully an engine in here? What am I supposed to do with this? ERROR!!!!"

    Only messing :P

Could be a lot of things or could be nothing, you won't know unless you pull the codes.

I did check to see if the engine was still there, it was :pac:

I'm in no rush anyway as I've got other cars to use and should be picking up the new one on Thursday/Friday.

This will read the basic codes and is reliable.

Yeah I'm going to send away for one of the Torque Pro compatible ones, that seemed fine the last time.

So I'm sitting in the car enjoying my mcflurry in nutgrove. A jeep pulls into the space on the drivers side of my car with a sour looking old bitch sitting in the passengers seat. She open her door belting it off my mirror. I'm sitting here with the window down. Do you think she apologised? Nope. Completely ignored my existence and didn't apologise to the driver of the jeep either. Not only is their car blocking my view of the world going by but I get to look at the red paint on their door that came off my car too

So did you just sit there and say nothing?

I always wonder in those circumstances, if they marked/dented the car could you go to your insurance with their details and claim? Even if it's something relatively small. I mean if you were to get things like that fixed on a door panel, it could cost hundreds.

I decided there was no point in saying anything because the mirror was all scratched already and I really don't give a sh1t about this car.

I should have said something just because, but I'm not a very confrontational person and she looked really sour. You know the type.

Roy Keane would have headbutted her!

Had similar before Ded, was parked up waiting for herself to come back from the shops and a not-so-yummy mummy in her Qashqai and pyjamas pulled up beside me, hopped out and smacked her door off the car. She looked at me in the car, said nothing and walked off. So I got out of the car and shouted after her. Was told "mind yer f****g bidness or I'll f*****g burst ya". So I burst her tyre valve.

Ive a few spare screws for when this happens
If they apologised and there was no damage, i wouldn't mind, its when they just wander off that it grinds my gears

Dunno, second pic shows it fairly covered. Salt water wouldn't do any favours!

So my 407 needed two front tyres, and I popped into a tyre place today. New place that's just opening from what I can tell.

Tyres on the car are 215/55/17. Lads wheeled out two tyres to me (winter tyres, at that, which i actually was happy enough about, as I reckon we're in for a tough one ahead). Said these tyres are a little wider but it wouldn't make any real difference.

Anyway, driving around today, I'm hearing some impact when I go over speed bumps and such. The tyres they put on the front are 225/55/17 (as opposed to the 215's that were on it). Would this be reason enough for me to hear noises or be worried? Or am I just trying to invent a problem from out of nowhere?

As an aside, the thread on the part worns is really, really good (like new, almost). At €50 for both and a free car wash, it was a great deal they did.

225 as opposed to 215 should make no noticeable difference.

I was thinking that, too. The car is definitely 'thumping' when it goes over a speed bump though (unless I go intentionally slower than normal).

Must take a look again tomorrow when I have daylight. Everything always has to turn into a problem! :(

The tyres are slightly wider (10mil) not taller.

    Sounds more like a bushing.

EDIT: Tyre wall would be very slightly bigger too but highly unlikely enough to rub unless the previous set were oversized to begin with.

As far as I know the set that were on it (215) were the right size for the car.

Anything you'd worry about? Doesn't sound overly healthy..:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

Could be something else, could be a loose or sticky caliper. If it's a bushing it would need to be replaced too.

If it's not affecting the handling or braking I wouldn't be panicking but it would need to be checked out sooner rather than later.

From my calculations the new tyres are 11mm total taller than the old ones. Which shouldn't be the cause of any issues unless the last ones were very tight.
