I think you'll probably have to put up with it longer. He's a lock, what do you expect him to dance around with the ball in hand? He carries very effectively and always makes yards. What more do you want? Defensively, aside from slipped tackles, I would actually put him as one of our better defenders. Choke tackle aside he's an absolute monster in defence. Forget the 'unseen' work, most of the work he does is absolutely evident because of his physicality. If we didn't have Maccer we'd be screwed as between himself and Rhys we really have no enforcers in the tight situations.

I don't understand how you can feel that way. I think I'm the only poster on this boards who doesn't sing his praises.

There were plenty of posters who criticised him for poor form during his first few months at Leinster. It's even debated already in this thread... :o
Since then, his form has been excellent for Leinster, he would have started for Ireland in the 6N only for the facial injury he received just prior. There's a reason you feel lonely ;)

Yeh, during the first few months. But now everyone loves him...

I wouldn't say that. A lot of posters thinks he's average. I think a lot of posters are looking for something else though.... Maybe Thorn, or Hines, or Jesus.

He's the king at suddenly collapsing in a heap too.

He lost a bet. His forfeit was to pretend to be shot by a sniper. He aced it.

Also he has been on the end of a bit of a kicking from the Ospreys with Bearman slagging him on Twitter. What a prick.

Could always being back Steven Sykes to replace him. And sure why not Clint Newland as well for the craic.

I was wondering how long that would take! :D

    I'm seeing a pattern here....

Seriously though, I think you're being ridiculously harsh. And that's showing up in the fact that you're on your own looking to see him gone. What he brings to our set piece alone is more than enough. His physicality on top of that just finishes it off. Other than his first few months I don't recall him making many serious errors. Or at least not over and above anyone else. For me he's our second best lock and Douglas will need to really make a serious statement to overtake him. In fact having Douglas and himself during international windows is something I really looking forward to.

    Hush you!

It's very light drizzle so far, only started a while ago. Been murky all day. Hardly any wind...

Apparently that's how it's meant to stay for the evening. Grey with the odd light shower with a light breeze. A glorious day in the Wesht.

Don't be daft. Jesus can't play rugby due to an issue with his headgear.

We're never going to agree on this .ak, and I don't wan't to argue with you on it, I know the level of love you have for the man :pac:.

But what I will argue with is the notion that Leinster will sign him on past 2016. If Leinster renew the contract of a 35 year old Mike McCarthy, I would openly weep.

I don't know what 6N you're thinking of but if you mean 2014 there's no way he would have started for Ireland, he was behind both toner and Tuohy as well as POC. I'm a fan but let's not overdo it

Bit of a joke that RTE aren't showing any game this weekend with three of the provinces playing at home.

No, Tox, you're wrong there. McCarthy was ahead of Tuohy who had not been involved with Ireland at all (remember his interview about his exclusion?) and only McCarthy's injury let him into the fold.

This won't be shown (legally) in the UK anywhere will it?

    1. It's a different ref - unless you think they're all biased against you?

Hope they aren't but remember we are the only team to have received official apologize from the Pro12 after Cardiff poor refereeing last year

Iirc Tuohy had a very strong season ahead of the 6 Nations, both were included in the original 6N squad, and Tuohy was definitely in the frame for the matchday squad ahead of McCarthy.

But Im willing to concede that point and say with absolute confidence the two starters would have been Toner and POC, who were the first choice pair in the AI's and Toner had only improved since then, McCarthy definitely wasnt looking at a start.

No. Three provinces playing in Ireland (cant edit) and only one match is on SD tg4.

    Eh?

Basically the cardiff away game last year the ref was so bad he was made apologise to lam and the team by the organisers. Dropped for a few rounds of compitition as well.

Not exactly relevant here but in case ya didnt know the backstory

Rte don't have rights to show the games. Do you want them to steal them?

RTE have no rights. Major provinces like Ulster are able to negotiate their own rights to be on TV pretty much every week but the minor provinces have to accept being on now and again.
