I think the nation owe Gareth Brooks an apology.

which they should refuse to pay, the GAA don't have to pay any and would be right not to pay any fines for having extra gigs, croke park is a large venue known world wide and should be used to its full potential so i would support the GAA refusing to pay any fines for using it

Because you wouldn't be one going to jail for contempt of court, easy to be a keyboard warrior when you personally stand to lose nothing.
In any event, they couldn't hold the concerts without permission and a licence as they would not be able to obtain insurance and they would almost certainly be closed down permanently!

6.1 News saying Brooks now cannot confirm any gig will go ahead. Between him and the promoter it's all about the money.

Aiken saying it takes 5 shows to get right, so is he implying the first 4 will be ****e?

not at all, if your arguing that 5 licences would set a precedent then its all ready done, 3 concerts and the 3 1 d concerts. 6 concerts. so the council don't see a problem with more then 3 concerts been had in croke park

Wrong wrong wrong. Just plain wrong.

A bit simplistic don't you think?
Much more to it than that

Everyone has their price. This is great brinkmanship from the residents, as much as i hate to see a handful of nimbys dictating to tens of thousands of concert goers. Promoters will eventually make them an offer they can't refuse.

This is not about money !!

I say call the cracker's bluff. Would he sell out any 80k venue in the world let alone one for 3 nights?

Omnishambles. Utter madness booking 5 nights on the trot without a license

If I moved somewhere , knowing that this was going to happen, then I would have no right to complain.

They moved in well before this start happening though. As they say, they don't mind a concert now and then, just not one after another after another and people using your garden as the local urinal.

and hopefully the GAA will fight back and brootley make those few hardcore extremists pay hard

    I sense bitterness here

Money may not be the issue, but it will certainly be the solution.

If I moved somewhere , knowing that this was going to happen, then I would have no right to complain.

Most people moved in knowing there was a limit on the number of concerts that could take place in a single year. They did not know that the GAA intended to blatantly breach this existing understanding.

This fiasco wouldn't have happened if Bertie Ahern was still in power- now there was a Dub that got things done!

Of course it depended in how heavy the brown envelope was

    Are you serious??

He announced the Croke Park gigs on the Leno show as there was and always has been, a massive interest in him performing again.

True but the fact that they didn't realise the difference between a one off gig and 5 nights on the trot is a bit foolhardy.

Doesn't make it right. Wouldn't be tolerated if you opened a pub or drove a car "subject to license" why should this?

so its not true to say that big games don't offer up a similar set of circumstances and I've never seen any trouble or hassle whatsoever.

It is absolutely true that it is a different set of circumstances.

Yes, plenty of people go drinking on match day. There is nowhere near the same level of anti-social behaviour at sporting events.

I would have no problem bringing my kids to a game. Plenty of children go to games.

I wouldn't even consider bringing a child to a music event and I doubt many people here would. Even tho my kid loves Arcade Fire :P

Money may not be the issue, but it will certainly be the solution.

If the people wanted money they could have asked for more when they where offered the €500,000 . The fact they didn't take this money shows it's not about money at all !!

Threatening to cancel all events is like them holding dcc to ransom. They know they would be mad to turn down a weekend like this so it's a wise move by promoters.

    Worded correctly too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭Jamsiek

it was the residents association who's leader apparently doesn't even live in the area who objected, so they are mostly to blame, they knew it existed, they had an opportunity to object to the re-development, they chose this themselves, and now they have to live with the fact they live beside a large venue

The residents didn't make promises they couldn't keep.
They have nothing to feel bad for.

I hope they cancel all the gigs . It will show the world how greedy Garthy really is .

Would guess Aiken saying they'll put the lot is bully tactics to try and force DCC to allow all 5.

Only Aiken/GAA to blame, they broke the agreement, blaming is residents is a bit low, considering they weren't the ones that broke the written agreement.

Also, lots and lots of elderly residents around the stadium, so saying 'why buy a house beside Croker if you don't like this' is a bit low too as most of them have been there for generations when Croker was just a Gaelic stadium.

(Punchestown would seem to be a fair alternative, good venue, has the capacity, and isnt too bad transport wise if done properly).

Does Garth get to keep the money ?

If so, Wouldn't that be hilarious, Getting paid for 5 sell out concerts without having to actually sing, dance or do anything ?
