It's a lot of money and those who earn higher than 80k can afford tax increases much easier than those on 30k or social welfare.
So people who earn 80k for working their balls off through school, college and every day at work should hand over MORE than half their pay.

Meanwhile, parasites who have never worked a day in their lives should get more?

Sounds good. Where do I sign up?

And how many good doctors, solicitors, surgeons, pilots, air traffic controllers do you think will stay in the country when you slice their pay because it's "too much"

"A fair system" - I'm sorry, but that is just total bullsh!it.

Empty rhetoric, as usual from those who want to drag others down instead of pulling themselves up.

By the way, outside of some sort of dictatorship, the government has no say in what a company chooses to pay its staff.

What you want is to stand on people's necks to keep them down while allowing high earners escape with minor scratches.

    Tax.

What difference does the salaries in private companies make to anyone other than the companies themselves?

First of all I wasn't just talking about private companies and if you live and earn in this country you pay into the system.

Actually, a fair system would consider everyone equal and tax them likewise.

What you are looking for is the opposite.

Yes, everyone equal and in it together. Not to cast off some because they are scroungers or are not hard working enough to earn huge salaries.

Ok so if the gov increases tax by 5% would you also agree that the dole and pensions should be cut by the same %?

5% on who? Why would you decrease the dole by 5%?

You'd feel sorry for the people that worked hard their whole lives to be where they are today. Worked hard at school and then worked their way up a company to a high up position with a great salary, only for people that have coasted through life not really trying crying out to "TAX THEM MORE, THEY DON'T DESERVE IT THE OVERPAID BASTARDS!!!!"

Well at least you admit they are scroungers and not hard working.

We're not talking about the self employed in small companies.
Rich people don't work Ray, share options and earnings from shares just for starters.

Share options are subject to income tax, PRSI and USC.

Dividends from shares are considered part of income and are subject to income tax, PRSI and USC.

Gains made on the value of shares are subject to capital gains tax (33%) when the shares are sold.

If somebody owns a company, any income that they take out of the business by way of salary, dividends or shares will be subject to personal taxes in one form or another.
The most tax efficient way to try and take profits is through pension contributions - but there will be taxes on that when the pension is eventually drawn.

Dole is too high, it isn't providing enough incentive to go find work. It should be brought back to more acceptable levels in line with the rest of the developed world.

Pay increases got out of control, they should be cut back or taxed higher.

So you want pay cuts and tax raises? I thought you were anti austerity.

No, I dream of a society where everyone works as hard and is as smart as everyone else, and deserves the same pay.

But I realise that that is a just a f*cking dream.

Because they are not not working hard enough.

Don't expect ryan to reply to this. He ignores people who invalidate his 'arguments'.

They don't pay half their pay on tax, it's much less than that.

Where did I say anyone should get more and what's this about parasites? I've told you there's less than 10,000 people who went through the boom unemployed and continue to be unemployed. Not everyone on the dole is a parasite. In fact a lot have worked just as hard if not harder than those on 80k+.

Why do you have such a nasty attitude towards less well off people in this country?

Any earnings over €32,800* are taxed at 52% (41% IT, 7% USC & 4% PRSI)

    *for a single person

Here's the attitude the FG supporters have. If you don't earn big salaries it's because you just coasted through life, no one else works hard except them. As I said in the beginning, they're happy to see those less well off suffer as long as they keep their big houses, buy their big cars and get to go on holidays. They really are a scourge on our society.

Clearly that is not enough. 90% would be more like it - sure they only blow it on caviar and tuxedos anyway.

You want things to be equal right? If one group has to take a hit then so does the other, that's what equality and fairness is about.

Yeah, the hard working and talented are a real scourge.

What we need is more lazy people and more people without talent, who take more out of the system than they put in.

I'm not a FG supporter. I've never voted for them. I vote for the person I feel is best in my area, their affiliation doesn't concern me. In fact, thinking back, in the last 3 elections I've voted for members of 3 different parties.

Are those people more important than the nurses, teachers, gardai, firemen, army etc who have had their pay slashed?

One or the other. I'm pro austerity for those who can afford it, while you are pro austerity for those who can't.

I wouldn't say more important, but the market decides what they get paid. If you can get more as a private nurse or whatever, more power to you.
