Quite a few sparks this morning in the Bristol Channel http://brunnur.vedur.is/athuganir/eldingar/i_dag_na.html? moving in a NNW'erly direction. An area to watch...could give a rumble or two along the east coast later?

Certainly significant radar returns off Anglesea at the moment, Louth and Down look like they might get some thundery downpours

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Tomorrow is looking decent for some thundery weather to break out.

Looks decent for midlands & west northwest areas. CAPE up to around 1,000 j/kg and lifted index reaching -5 are ingredients you'd expect to see for some storms to pop up. Generally speaking the higher the CAPE (instability) and the more negative the LI (air rising) the better. It's a bit more complex than that but it's a handy way of quickly checking potential.

A lot of excitement over here for some decent thunderstorms through the week, some nice looking storms over Wales at the moment so hopefully an indication of what's to come and hopefully you can import a few over there.

Sweltering here at the moment, car showing 26C so there's plenty of heat to feed a breakdown

Very Active Thunderstorms over Western Wales, they are not heading our way but some rogue cells are developing near Cornwall. Wouldn't mind disembarking in Holyhead now¬

Yeah...nice big ball of storms running up the Irish Sea this afternoon. http://brunnur.vedur.is/athuganir/eldingar/i_dag_na.html? being fed by a nice warm UK (26c in Gravesend atm).

The south Irish Sea has just sprung into life with some cells now active and heading in a direction roughly around Dublin, I would guess

the huge train of thunderstorms over Wales and the Irish Sea is the perfect dividing line between the UK Heatwave and the cold atlantic muck over Ireland, eastern Northern Ireland coastal locations should be on the fringe edge of much excitement through the night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Haven't seen so many sferics over the Irish Sea for a long time.
