I'm extending my Gascoigne parlour at the minute, and am looking out for two units with jars etc. If any of yas know anyone with an old Gascoigne parlour sitting idle that they want to offload let me know!

Id say dung sample straight away, at least you'd know for sure then in case any more get sick, i wouldn't discount cocidiosis either
I agree with getting dung samples done. That is what we did. Got them done in a place in Oldcastle and had the results the next day.
As a precaution we automatically give all calves Bovicox. We used to use another product but apparently Bovicox covers them for longer.
This is our first year using it and so far we have had no issues with cocci and most of the calves are now out.

Does it have to be Gascoigne? Could ye not put in another make?

GG, Vacoxen today is my advice. Take dung samples but if its coccidiosis you need to act now.

We administer through mobile calf feeder, did a group this morning

Didn't think they could get it at grass.
I'll get some into her quick. She's a lovely pure bred je heifer. Only have 3 of them this year

IME that's when they get it.

We switched our heifers to a new farm in 12 and got it at grass. Had no idea what it was. I mentioned it to a friend in passing and he recommended Vacoxin. It's part if our routine now with no weaned calf going there without treatment and nothing since thankfully.

Plenty other makes around me but haven't found a Gascoigne yet. The parlour would end up too much of a mongrel if I had 6 Gascoigne units and 2 fullwoods etc, pain in the arse with spares etc etc, even getting in milkers, and them needing to learn two different sets of units etc.

    Or bovicox lasts for longer

Yeh I've spent too long messing around thinking about what to put in, new 10/14/20 unit, or a robot, but can't decide, so will do a botch fix before I end up at 15 rows with the 6unit.

There man in North by name of Stinson that used to deal in second hand milking machines. Did a Google on him. The first name gardiner rings a bell in my mind but thought he in Aughnacloy, which is one of the places given. Would post Web address if knew how!

Do cluster removers work alright with jars. Just wondering about the milk release and how it happens with jars.

What is it with the jars lads? Electronic metering is around since the eighties if you really need to see what each cow milks each time. I don't get why anyone would install jars at this stage.

Cost maybe, or if you buy a second hand parlour and there on it your going to use them. Have them my self and there a pain in the hole alright when not needed that being said i would rather have them than nothing esp at milk recording time

I think they only get in the way and slow down milking a lot! Personally I hate them in a parlour but everyone has there own ideas I suppose.

have cluster removers with jars here, it doesnt really slow me down, as i have 15 unit parlour and by the time i get to jar it is empty, if theres 2 of us in parlour you might be waiting for them to empty alright

You might just get away with it. 8 litres after 36 hrs. It'll be touch and go, but you could be okay. Sickner when it happens though
