Got overed 25 acres of silage today :D job. Hopefully I can get it now. Hasn't had any fert this year and its up to top of wellie now. Father says its nice grass. 250 bales plus will be a long draw. Its near 10 miles away from what I hear.
Things are panning out nicely this year :)
What's the going rate for silage ground? Would I get it for less than 100e

None at all tbh. With sheep or sucklers in that area. Wouldn't be very intensive. Your man just bought it and has horses coming in sept so wants good grass.

The hybrid I sowed 3 weeks ago is well up but the parts I missed in field with round up have started to grow too.
There fairly open noe but are getting tall.
    Will this smoother the seedlings?

This time last year my feed cost per litre was 10c it's 3.5 now

3 litres less per cow but much more overall profit this year

Don't know if I've worked it out right but its 8c here.

That 3.5c is a purchased feed cost

Them hi vigor females of yours are more effecient than that

No of kgs fed multipled by cost of feed- then divided by milk per cow in bulk tank

    Ie 3kgs x 0.250 as meal is 250 per ton a kg is 25c

So 75c divided by 25 litre per cow is 3 cpl

Just looking at my coop report there.
On average I've sent in 20% more milk each month thus year compared to 2012 which was a similar ye cow number wise and weather wise
    And 30% more milk solids
Calving is 369 compared to 402.
Pretty happy with that. Hope I keep improving at that rate

Your comparing '13 against '12 are you? We sent in 37% more solids the 1st quarter this year (14) against the 1st quarter last year, big number of factors there, much better silage, more grass in march, less passengers in the herd, cows milked to 7wks before calving, cows feed to yield etc. Unlikely I'll get a jump like that again ha, but will keep on pushing forward!

    Tyrella, abergain and aberchoice

    Great take.
Great mix, put in 30 acres of that last year. Grass horsing out of the ground this year.

Ps. You're into Timac products... They have a spray "Stimgrass", fire it in when you are doing the post emergence spray. You won be able to keep it grazed.

Great mix one word of caution re Tyrella graze ferociously every 2 weeks during main growth season. It's not the most palatable but grows lots of tonnes

GG spray soon for weeds and you'll be dock free for a few years
