Not possible unless you are telneting to the wrong ip and your router had the same username and pass
when i type root then HDMU i get the following line- Huawei-hg658c-instalacion login; i noticed the port changes from 22 to 23 when i click on telnet in the first set of opyions on putty, is that ok? would the ip of my box always stay the same?

Port 22 is ssh, a different protocol. Are you sure you've telnet selected and using port 23

    It's fdisk -l (letter L). It'll probably be sda1 but worth confirming.

It should list where your drive is mounted, you will know by the capacity which one it is, it will be something like /dev/sda1. You then need to run the following command to suit the location your drive is mounted
    tune2fs -L RECORD /dev/sda1

it is showing me my drive in /dev/sda1 and when i run the command tune2fs -L RECORD /dev/sda1 it is telling me ""bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda1 couldnt find valid filesystem super-block

Have you much on it? You might be best format it

    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1
    cd /autofs/sda1
    mkdir movie

    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1

This formats it to ext3 and gives it the name RECORD. You should just wait on your Samsung

yeah true, so when i get the samsung i just connect it to the box and run that command in putty to format it? and it can still be used on other images?

    r
No, that will format it as ext3 which is a linux format, windows will not natively read or write to it

Yes, you can FTP the files to it from your PC before flashing or you can get software to get windows to recognise ext3

If you search this thread for > samba server < there is lots of info on what it is and how to set it up. Most images on here already have samba server set up. It runs on the Alien2 and lets you see the files and folders on it as though the Alien2 filesystem was just another drive on your PC. That way you can browse and also stream files from the Alien2 to your PC even if the usb drive they are stored on is not in a format that would be recognised by a Windows OS.

I noticed that too.. not sure why it happens but if Samba is running on the receiver and your pc can connect to the Alien2 you can always pull up the drive again. A quick way to do it on a Windows PC is by typing in to the run box on the start menu:

//[alien2 ip address]/[name of samba share]

If you go to My Computer and Map Network Drive the 'link' to the receiver should stay there and be available as long as Samba is running and the Alien2 is on the network.

The names of your Samba shares are listed in a file called smb.conf in /etc/samba on the Alien2. You might need to tweek things in there like IP address and the paths to various folders on your USB drive. You'll need to restart Alien2 after making any changes.

Yes ,same hard drive will work for any image .
I switch between Hdmu,Ar-p and Hyperion, and no change to drive is necessary.
As a matter of fact the drive I am using was originally in a Dm800 ,all E2 images use the same format .

I think its Menu-Setup-Crossepg-Configure and change the first line from internal flash to the external drive.

Is it possible to get a old Sky expired subscription card (UK) to work in this box. Why! Motors TV is Freeview in UK only. Just canceled SKY last month and I presumed this channel was still FTV.

Hi Folks, first of all thanks to all who have put up info on getting this box set up..without this thread I don't know what I would have done. Everything in the beginning was well over my head but I have everything up and running now the way I want it. I'm using Champ's Open Arp and everything running perfect except RTE Player-not getting any sound. Is it worth trying any of the new Images?? i'm very reluctant as I don't want to mess things up.
One other question- I have 1Channel working but it freezes alot. It works perfect on laptop, is there a way to stream from Laptop TO amiko box??

Also, is it possible to watch another channel while recording 2 channels at the same time. I can record 2 channels but can only watch about 5 other channels at the same time while recording 2??
