In the books The Hound received his "mortal" wound in the fight at the inn. Looks like in the show he's going to get stuck with the pointy end. Will be interesting how they handle this helmet and horse. Every episode from now on may prompt major nerd meltdowns!

I like the way Arya seemed to have warmed to the Hound in the show, will be pretty bummed if she's the one who wounds him now. :(

"Would that be enough to take King's Landing".

They're going to be dangling that particular bit of cheese for quite a while if they want to start this early!

How do you guys feel, knowing that in tonight's episode we are going to have more off book stuff?

Personally I'm excited about it, I don't mind being "spoiled" by the tv show because I think of both of them as equally good different pieces of art.

Did many book readers complain about the changes during Season 2? (at the time I was not an ASOIAF book reader)

    What's this?

I don't mind non-book stuff so long as doesn't potentially spoil something that is yet to be revealed in the books, changes such as Jon and co. getting rid of the mutineers instead of Coldhands is fine (even if we don't get Coldhands :().

hate to say it but the imminent return of the "jack bauer power hour" aka 24 will be 1st on my list over GoT this week :pac:

The non book stuff already being set up last week, not "new" new stuff (but then not that I'd know of anyway!)

I don't know, I think we'll be seeing more new-new stuff. I can't see the producers being arsed stringing Daenys arc out over the next few series. I reckon we'll see the groundwork being laid for her to land in ep 1 of series 5 tbh.

so basicly: look at the lovley books with the excellent story
lets not do that cos people are idiots

in my head half ot the imp's head is hanging off
let them do what they will

That's not going to happen. That would fcuk up all the storylines.

We've already seen in the trailers that she'll take the same course in the show as she does in the books as regards Meereen:

'I will do what queens do; I will rule'

Really hope they havent cut the character coldhands. One of the more interesting characters introduced in the later books.

Will be really disappointed if hes not in it. Last chance for him to show tonight :(

Cersei seemed way too nice in this episode. She didn't seem angry nor did she threaten to exterminate anyone's Houses for talking to her.

I'll wait until tomorrow before posting any spoilers about Craster's.

She's playing the grieving mother in order to work the judges.

Mace through Margaery...'talk to your father'. Not instantly killing the prospect of a marriage to Tommen to keep them onside nor killing her in her sleep for calling her sister as she promised before. Talking about loving Joffrey despite his faults.

Tywin by agreeing to go along with the marriage to Loras and 'the only thing that matters is the family legacy'

Oberyn by playing the poor mother who has lost one child and is seperated from another.

If only the least trustable person in the eyrie didn't know who Alayne really was I reckon she'd be grand. Why didn't little finger think of something smart like not telling 2 insane people who she was and maybe disguising her a bit? That might have been smart...

Lysa knows who she is in the books too. She even buys her hair dye.

Haha I have the strange image in my head of Lysa Arryn wandering Boots for hair dye! Lady Lysas a welcome return but her reveal about poisoning Jon was a bit rushed and almost non dramatic, that knocked me for 6 in the books whereas non readers would probably be like "...what was that?"

Where was that location for Aryas water dance, it was stunning. Loved how the hound took a big steaming crap on all the Syrio Forel theories. The Pod and Brienne show is something I would watch ahead of any canned laughter sitcom out there.
Cant beat some good natured comedy in the midst of all the dark material

Enjoyed an actual bit of sword play for a change. It felt like it took those crows ages to kill 11 drunk deserters, well 10. Some real gore too which was nice.

Also nice to see the viper in a scene not in a pool of naked bodies though I'd imagine that poem is rather racy.

Best moment of all, Hodor going berserk, cracking stuff.

Couldn't care less about Dany at this stage, not sure what she'll do for the next 5 episodes. Hold a few public forums and sit on her lovely arse.

Huge improvement this week - it's usually at it's best when they dump most of the supernatural stuff and just concentrate on people being scheming backstabbers.

She's still grieving, give her time...

So Sansa is his niece rather than his bastard.

Is she not something else in the book?
Could be wrong tho, it's been a while since I read it

She's Petyr's bastard in the books.

I really hoped Coldhands would show up :(

It did seem rather sandwiched in there. It came across like really obvious plot development- totally unnatural. I preferred the reveal in the dramatic moments before LF tossed her out the moon door. I did liked the way they set up sweet robin as such a little sh!t all the same.

All in all a nice bit of character and plot development with some a$$ kicking at the end. So sweet to see Crasters daughter stab Karl in the back after last weeks horror. I wonder what Locke's plan of action was- to disappear with Bran and somehow make it past the wws, an army of wildlings, the watch and the wall? It looks like things are back on track for Bran to make his way to Bloodraven and Jon to get back to the wall in time for the battle.

I did think that Cersei seems a lot smarter and more contained than in the books, where she didn't seem to give a sh!t who she alienated or p!ssed off, especially the Tyrells. I hope she returns to form, she really filled the Joffery shaped hole for my hatred :)

The fact getting to the eyrie is portrayed as being so easy is another annoying thing. Another of Robert's bastards not in the show, hope their overall significance is something GRRM is keeping to the books.

In fairness they showed Tyrion and Cat having a fairly tough time of it in the first season. Their journey and ascent is fairly glossed over in the book too.

Haven't seen it yet or read the thread but it really makes a change being afraid to come in here in case of genuine spoilers :D

ha I know the feeling, even though I love to read the stuff cause I didnt see the show yet and simply can't wait :D

Yeah, Lysa's explanation was kind of rushed there. No drama.

If non book readers still care about Daenery's field trip they'd be hopping now she'd move her ass to Westeros now that she has ships.

Was hoping to see Coldhands at the end....

  • Registered Users Posts: 434 ✭✭Lady Spangles

I didn't mind that it was Jon who cleared out the mutineers instead of Coldhands. But I would have preferred him. The compensation being, that it was sweet to see Bran catch a glimpse of his brother, no matter how fleetingly. Warging Hodor, also brilliant. That must be Hodor's ultimate purpose.

The scene between Cersei and Tywin, where he tells her the last goldmine on Casterly rock ran dry three years ago: I don't recall that from the books. Was it in there?

Finally, only other gripe: nowhere enough scenes with Prince Oberyn! I feel like he's being let slide and all we'll get to see of him is his defeat against the Mountain. :(

Its plausibly a spoiler from future books.
Tyrion has made a lot of promissary notes to the Second Sons in ADwD, which it now transpires he can never pay. So maybe in the future someone (The Iron Bank?) is going to give Ben Plumm this information, thus stopping the alliance and putting Tyrion in some danger.

Theres definitely a big clash with this epsiode and the books though; in AFfC there was no indication that Cersei (and she was a POV character) knew about this, her refusal to repay the Iron Bank there was more of a 'fcuk you guys' than actually being skint.

I didn't like how they did the reveal over Jon Arryn and all of Littlefinger's plotting. It seemed so out of place and unnecessarily shoehorned into that scene. From a dramatic WTF viewpoint surely it would have worked better before Lysa went flying.

The whole Locke thing didn't really go anywhere either, I guess there was "jeopardy" in relation to what he'd do to Bran and we did get to see Hodor turn into the hulk.

Brienne and Pod were class and could rival Arya and the Hound for number one spot on Westeros's tripadvisor for escorted tours of the countryside :pac:

What are Craster's wives going to do now if they don't return with the watch?

No coldhands was a disappointment too.
