    Who's your provider mate? Wouldn't mind getting in contact with them to find out how suitable it would be for gaming. Running the xbox one at the moment and when it comes to map packs for the likes of battlefield it's taking me way too long than necessary to download them.

    One major problem I would have with this is the fact that its €120 installation fee - no other provider charges that and it is a massive capital down payment. With fibre so close to being introduced, provided said issues on are resolved (why I started this thread), I can't see how that is competition with up to 100Mbps speeds. If 4G become available in Tramore through various providers then there are potential speeds of 50Mbps+ with regards a wireless system as real competition.

    Wireless Solutions, at the moment anyway, are not the solution. It varies depending on where you live and is very much weather dependent.

    Sully its annoying that you keep rowing in with misinformation and information thats not true, anytime I have stated my actual experience of this broadband, you contradict me.

I only know this because as a customer I get €30 for every one I recommend when they sign up (I've made €150 so far) but I've also had to email them a few questions. Nor does it vary where you live, they can either give you the service or not, they are nice guys and will tell you straight.

    On the weather question the reply I received was and I quote "weather does not affect the propagation of the radio frequencies used for the distribution of wireless broadband" so there you go

    I have recommended them to people near Fenor, near Kilfarrasy, Duhill and Mooncoin, they all have Neflix now and have no problem watching it, they are all delighted with their broadband.

    I really do think you just want to moan and claim that there is no alternative despite the fact that there is.

    I am not saying this is the ideal for everyone, but if you are completely pi***d off with the phone companies and the terrible service, if getting rid of your landline so you don't have to deal with them at all makes you smile and if you want decent broadband for work, gaming or watching tv then a real alternative exists, stop moaning and use it

    Yep you could be right on that but there is a €39 alternative. In fainess you don't have speeds of anywhere near what your suggestion, thats down the line somewhere, I am talking about now, so I would say it is very much real competition, thats if you want what you said you wanted, decent broadband!!!

    Fibre will be excellent but if you can get it but you'd still need your phoneline and I wouldn't change over when what I have now does the job nicely and I don't have to deal with the likes of eircom - thats when I did eventually get through to them.

    Things might change but I am actually happy with what I have.

    By the way my neighbour has vodaphone 4G (its here) with speed tests showing well over 30Mbps yet they use my internet for skyping their daughter in Oz because theirs keeps needing to reconnect or cutting out and mine works fine- I know cheek.

    Lads are ye sure this isn't just a moaning session????

    I'm not contradicting your personal experience, and I don't think I have ever really spoken about Wireless Broadband online. I do have a bit of experience with selling fixed line services and I have done rural where people use wireless solutions. I have spoken with them about their experiences and I know from my own knowledge. Even Sky TV is impacted by the weather. Nothing to do with the company you use, there are hundreds who do the same thing. Many implement their technologies different to respond to poor weather. Weather can and does impact on wireless solutions to many customers. Many customers swear by it.

    I'm not ruling it out as a solution completely. It's not for everybody and it has it's limitations. That's all I am saying.

    And as for mobile phone operators 3G broadband - I come across this on an almost daily basis. Most people openly admit the service is poor and is even worse during poor weather. Again, location depending. One lad in Tramore gets great service because he is within a short distance from the mast.

    Not a moaning session at all Sparkling Sea. As I said the reason I started this thread was to raise awareness of the issues in the system here. Up to about October/November-ish my broadband was absolutely fine, and had been for the last 10 years, getting the maximum 3Mbps, then 8Mbps, then 12Mbps (current) speeds that were available to my landline from Eircom/BT/Vodafone (current).

    Since the issues began I have kept note and from speaking to other users it became apparrent that it wasn't just my line that was suffering issues with speed which suggested it was a congestion isssue. The only reason I would not consider moving to a Wireless Provider is as I said; the capital outlay.

    eFibre should be available soon and I feel it is worth the wait til March/April rather than moving and signing a 12 month contract with a Wireless Provider. Should the speeds not be satisfactory with eFibre and the speeds still suffer dreadfully (i.e. unable to load videos/pictures) then I would consider moving to Wireless.

    Thanks very much for the advice on an alternate solution but as you (Sparking Sea) said, you get €30 for each referral you get. This thread is not here to help you line your pocket, it is here to try to raise awareness and assist locals in knowing issues and making a complaint about inadequate landline services in the area connected to Tramore Telephone Exchange. I have no problem with referrals and advice on other services, just do it in another thread or a Bargain Alerts thread or something. I'm sure the Mods will agree with me on this on.

    Spoke with a chap working on fibre cabinets recently. He was telling me that the cabinets could have been installed when the fibre was a year or so ago, but eircom didn't want it done like that. Also, he thinks that not every cabinet will be made live in March (assuming they go live in March at all) and that most, if not all at this stage, cabinets are ready and just need to be made 'live' by eircom. That's pretty much what eircom have said on Boards.

    He also said confirmed what someone else told me - that fibre will temporarily elevate the congestion in Tramore when people move over to it, but when demand increases in fibre congestion will appear again. As it has already in many parts of the country. Then its up to eircom to address the equipment in the exchange to increase capacity.

    He personally didn't think fibre would work well the way it was setup and said that fibre to the home is possible, but it can be messy.

    Sully thats a stupid arguement by anyones standards. Your deflecting away from the info I was told and and trying to argue some technical point relating to your expericences and different types of broadband provision and fixed line phones, it doesn't pertain to anything I said.

    Your wrong although I know your not the type of poster to admit that. You don't have any experience of the broadband I was recommending and you know nothing about but yet you can point out negatives, when there isn't any in this case, I have been assured of this.

    It makes no odds to me if your internet is rubbish, when I find something that works I have no problem recommending or promoting it - why would I.

    But you are right when you say its not for everybody, but I can't think of much that is. If I lived in Waterford City I would never even consider it.

    I Sparkling Sea do not get €30 because they wouldn't know who Sparkling Sea was, so this thread in no way helps me line my pockets, I and I would imagine every other customer received cards in the post to give to people looking for the interent, if they sign up its 30 euro because you ID is on the back of the cards, thats it.

    Everyone in Tramore and the surronding area knows there is a terrible problem with the internet, and there wouldn't be that much of a shortage of people in Tramore who now where to complain to. Its is almost impossible to find info on a decent provider, but you seem know the way the minds of the Mods work, so I
    trust the Mods would agree with as you.

    Fair enough, my own personal experience doesn't count in actually dealing with customers who have wireless broadband solutions. Ill accept that, their own findings with the service means nothing. But any bit of research I have done has proven that weather can impact it - plus, you need to be in Line of Sight of the mast, walls and trees can't block the signal and so on and so forth. I can only go by this research and personal experience.

    I am open to correction as always, but someone is going to have to point me in the direction of a credible source.

    So there you have it. Independent reviews, all saying that weather impacts wireless broadband services. They don't say that for the craic, or to target you. I genuinely can only point in the direction of various reviews that back up my long thought understanding that there are numerous factors including weather that impact this type of service.

    It makes absolutely no difference to me if people use your service, a fixed line service, or any other companies service. I just like to understand the pros and cons of the services. I also don't like it when someone portrays a service to be much better than it actually is and insists that it's perfect all the time and certain factors don't impact it.

    Fixed line broadband is better than satellite for most but it too has it's drawbacks - we could be living right beside each other and you could get better service than me with the same provider.

    Wireless Broadband might be perfect for you but very well may not be perfect for your neighbour and has it's drawbacks in principal. I actually think it's a technology that is a perfect solution for some - in areas where DSL isn't available or wireless is offering a better service (better than nothing, eh?) and technology that is set to improve over time.

    A problem that looks likely to be gone in the next month or so with the launch of fibre. The reason why we can't get an alternative provider is because they all use the same equipment - more or less. There isn't any other provider like UPC in Tramore that has it's own independent network that we can switch too. As for your comment on the minds, I have absolutely no idea what you are getting at.

    I suspect nothing will be done because the vast majority are not complaining to Comreg. Posting online with speed results is all well and good to show the problem to others, but pressure needs to be applied to the regulator and eircom before anything will move.

    Also dont think eberyone is on to comreg yet . Very irish

    I have spoken to UTV twice and each time they have said there is nothing wrong with my line. This is probably correct as per your information regarding the issues at the exchange.

    My regular speed is around 2.6MBS and if I have speed around that level I can't complain to Comreg!

    I posted the last speed check cos it was back down in the dumps again but my speed has returned to my "normal" level so UTV don't want to know!

    I was with Vodafone for my broadband and landline for a year and never had any problems connection speed or otherwise, but an eircom rep came to the door saying i could make a saving and that on top of the deal i was already getting with vodafone(free landline calls at any time of the day) i would get an extra allowance of free minutes (cannot remember how much) to any mobile. Seen as Mobile calls were what was adding to my bill i switched to Eircom.
    Now I only have a 30GB p/m data allowance which is less than vodafones 50GB, the router has dropped its DSL connection numerous times and i dont seem to be making a saving (which i must check out) that i thought i would be making.

    Ill be looking into the contract i have with Eircom and first chance i get ill be going back to vodafone.

    30mins to any Irish Mobile. No international minutes. €45 for evening calls, €50 for all day calls. Add €5 for unlimited broadband to either of the above.

    Didn't think Vodafone was cheaper than eircom, in my experience Voda worked out cheaper.

    Anyway, Vodafone use the same line as Eircom so switching is unlikely to make any difference to your service (or little). It all comes down to price.

    I'm unaware of any eircom price plan at that rate. It might have been an average thing, maybe.

    Router connects to the phone line, which goes back to the exchange. The setup in the exchange can depend a little based on the company you are with but generally there isn't that much of a difference speed wise. Maybe a bit with congestion.

    That could be anything - fixing line issues, adding customers etc. Fibre is done by KN and some private contractors. The eircom techs in the vans are not doing the cabinets and new fibre cabinets are added usually beside or near the existing cabinet.

    That price is eircom, the last time I checked (December) and I am unaware of any price change between the competitors. Vodafone appear to knock out a price depending how many mobiles you have with them or something.

    Anyway, back to the original topic at hand.

    UTV followed up with me today on my complaint, which is going through Comreg. The last I heard was three weeks ago - UTV looking for a response from eircom about problems that I (and others) are having. Today, they confirmed that eircom have now admitted there are problems with congestion in the exchange and that it is being investigated and will be fixed. No time frame, but UTV will continue to push and monitor this every few days and will remain in frequent direct contact with me. The reason for that is that I wanted a time frame and I wanted to know what would be considered a reasonable period for eircom to fix the exchange. It will be weeks, not days, that's for sure and personally I suspect with fibre it will buy them time.

    It's now March 2014 and I am hoping for a call from Vodafone saying that they can upgrade me to faster broadband.

    Anyone been offered Fibre BB yet?

    It's now March 2014 and I am hoping for a call from Vodafone saying that they can upgrade me to faster broadband.

    Mid March afaik. Not every cabinet is done yet, from what I can see

    Spoke with eircom who double checked with fibre ops. As it stands, we are due fibre this month at some stage. Mid March was my understanding earlier but no live dates have been given yet.

    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3363473586 i'm living in kill st lawrence in town and this is what you can expect when ye eventually do get efibre, i changed from wimax and there download speed that i was getting was barely 8mb and was paying for ten and upload was 0.5mb absolute crap and am paying same every month with efibre and getting more for my money

    oh defo gary i had wimax for two years since i moved into town from tramore and thought it was great service until efibre just blew them outta the water and for same price as i was paying wimax for

    eircom tech out here today checking my line to see what the issue is with the broadband speeds. No issues on my line resulting in slow speeds, as expected, so that goes back to eircom. Said he will make note that it's a congestion issue.

    On another note, in terms of the fibre, I was told recently that the reason for the delay with the fibre is because councils are asking for a "ridiculous" fee for the fibre cabinets that are being installed. Tramore is impacted by this request that eircom are, I believe, not willing to pay out.

    Anyone got any updates??? I rang Eircom just now and was told that the schedule says Mar-14 but it could take up till Dec-14 to roll it out. She said the exchange is active for Fibre but its the local cabinets that need to be upgraded/activated still and they have no schedule for that.

    I personally think the are trying to get customers to join the existing service first offering them a free upgrade when efibre becomes available. I dont want to switch from Sky but they arent even offering a fibre connection and when i rung them i was told by the rep who contacted the a second level support or someone who should be in the know and was told that there is no plans to offer fibre to any irish customer in 2014...

    I contacted them the other day about switching after I noticed fibre was scheduled for Tramore this month but pretty much got told the same thing about up to December :(

    had calls from comreg / vodafone regarding my complaint on this speed thing, and they told me various cabinets were going live around tramore from the 20th over a period. I checked the speeds yesterday from 3pm onwards and I was able to get 6mb/s for each test right up to and past midnight. Haven't had that in months from 3pm onwards at any stage.
    Dunno if that was a fluke.. so I am going to keep checking it all day

    Im going to check it every hour or so in the evening all weekend and see if i get any difference. I do hope its going live soon. I know the cabinets outside my estate have been there for a long time and they where at them again a few weeks back. Cant wait

    1 on the lads rang up eircom today from work to find out when the date was for Fibre and was told that there is a problem with the exchange in Waterford and we will probably not see fibre till December this year and that was calling about a buisness connection . Has anyone else heard any more ????

    Folks, can you check your speeds and see what results you are getting? Twice today I am getting 12mb+ - best performance in a long while, but I will continue to monitor it over the next few days.

    The last 2 days Sully I've been getting over 6mb past 6pm(currently running 6.81 right now). It's the 1st time since like November that it's been like this.

    Is it,is it over???

    Haven't got any confirmation but I read elsewhere most issues across the exchanges were due to be addressed by the 20th.
