I've a 270x still at stock as I never really needed more power until now, but now Im upgrading so I see no point ocing. I've an aftermarket cooler. Just got off my PC so I can't remember my temp monitor program. Which do you recommend?

1 thing that has lost me for a while is which side do I put the fan on CM hyper 212 evo? Closer to back or front? Instructions weren't clear.

Rivatuner can limit your FPS to 60. Very handy for keeping temps minimum, and noise down from fan speed.

    Id go with this setup

There are loads of programs for monitoring, the two i would use are HWMonitor and GPU-Z. I use HWiNFO64(sensors only)now which i find great, but think the other two are a good starting point

HWMonitor is what I have, couldn't think of the name for the life of me. How do I get 96-120hz? When I tried originally it just blackscreened and made me safe mode start

I am wondering if DX 11.2 enabled games that supports Tiled Resources (uses system RAM to support VRAM) will help on higher resolutions like 1440p in future without the need to "upgrade" my current GPU.
I'll be getting one of korean PLS monitors in near future and been planning on what to do after that - should I go SLI or replace my GPU with AMD one since those are running at 3GB and up at the same price point.
Any thoughts on this? Would this "tech" let us save some cash and stick with current 2GB GPUs?

Just had a little bit of a fright. Locked my machine and went off for a few mins, came back to a pink and fuzzy lock screen. Logged in and the second panel was fine though. Power cycled the main one and it fine now too. At first I thought it was the 7870 but thankfully it would appear not. What Im wondering is has anyone seen this happen before? Is the panel on its last legs?

If it's just a color, you look at a cable first, monitor second
If it's fuzzy - it's GPU or connection to it (common for laptops)

Sounds oddly familiar. Any difference while idling/light gaming from normal temps? Sometimes this would happen if card is not properly seated, if this problem persists, remove screws that are holding the card, make sure card is seated properly and test again. It could be due to PC case design - once you tighten screws, it would lift the card out a bit.

I am not sure if we can blame the cable here, since I've never seen digital cables causing this, just analog ones.

So on a whim, I decided to play around with voltages a bit for my 3570K.

Previously I'd followed a guide on OCN, which mentioned that when using offset voltage, it wasn't usually a good idea to choose negative values, because some motherboards don't like it, so I'd been running with +0.005V.

I decided to see how low I could go, just for giggles. As it stands I'm at -0.025V.
So I started dialling in my existing overclock... reducing volts... then I decided to increase clocks...

Before: 4.5GHz at 1.288V. Max temp of 87°C running a custom Prime95 test.
After : 4.6GHz at 1.24V. Max temp of 77°C running the same test.

I had no idea this could have such a huge affect on stability. Previously, if I set my turbo voltage at anything lower than about 1.27V I'd get a BSOD upon getting into Windows.

Might have a go at this myself. Currently at 4.4GHz at 1.32v. Any guide on how to go about doing this?

Well my ASRock BIOS will probably be a bit different to yours, but:

    http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-asrock-edition

That's the guide I used. If you set your settings to match, then go from there.

As it turns out, the settings I had in weren't completely stable. IBT threw a BSOD after a few minutes. I've reverted to stock clocks for the moment, so I can get the undervolting bit dialled in, before I worry about the overclock. Looks like I should be able to get 4.6/1.26 or there-abouts though.

Power cycling the monitor was the resolution so Id be more inclined to think its the PCB that runs the panel. AFAIK its called a scaler.

If the monitor is connected via HDMI it could be a DRM handshake issue. Something like this has happened to me a few times over the years as my TV is connected via HDMI for sound, and power cycling the TV or changing the input from PC back to TV and back again to PC will fix it. As far as I know it doesn't happen with VGA or DVI as there is no DRM in the signal.

Me too. Someone is going to get a paddling! As long as they don't get the thread closed altogether.

The panel that did it is on DVI. Thanks though.

At least you've got some idea now in case it happens again. Kind of hard/pointless hunting the witch if you can't replicate the problem. Could be a minor glitch, could be an underlying problem, who knows..
Personally I've no experience with HDMI, so I'll just step aside read and learn.
Also every time someone mentions power cycle, I get Roy's voice from IT crowd in my head, is that normal?

Is there any sign of crypto currency mining coming to an end on the graphics card side? Is it foolish to buy a 290 at like 70€ over launch price, or should I just do it..

There's a new crypto every other week, It's probably going to be a while before it stabilises.

Take from that what you will.

I'll probably just buy whenever I sell my old one in that case. Oh how nice it would be to get a 290 for €300...

    This upsets me http://imgur.com/a/rUE1N

Making ASICs for alt coins isnt going to be practical for a fair while, AMD cards are still gonna sell for premium prices for a few months minimum. Go green team for now tbh.

If I get a 770, I'm better off getting a 280x. MSI 780 is €50 more than Gigabyte 290, which I, correct me if I'm wrong, don't think is worth.

Pushed up to 13th in the worldwide rankings for XTU score for a 4670k on air, 8th in Europe. Everybody above me is running higher clocks so I could push up :)

I though the mining craze was mostly driving up prices in the US, I don't remember reference cards being much cheaper over this side of the pond at launch?

Ya, stocks aren't great, but prices are mostly fine this side of the pond.
