Alright I'll hold off then deceit, thanks. The powercolur card should have been 370 +postage, but the offer ended as it started which was odd.

How would I get about formatting my laptop hard drive and doing a fresh install of windows? It's gotten really slow and I'm passing it on so I need to remove everything.

You could back up your activation using a program such as ABR, then reinstall windows. Make sure that it has both back up files when you do it as it sometimes doesn't work (i.e., with volume licensing keys).

I could be wrong now, but ....

Looking up port 3478 on UDP, says it's used by a STUN server.

Looking up what a STUN server is, it seems it's used to obtain your public IP (presumably for a game!?) if you're behind a NAT.

The 2 209 IPs reverse resolve to a telia dns ... maybe a Swedish game?

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it ... probably.

Still no leaks or rumours about new nvidia gpus? My birthday is coming soon, so I am not sure what do I do. Buy new gpu or spend it on something else.

I think Maxwell could be a great architecture when it shows up, but all indications are that it won't be for a while yet (at least two months, would be my best guess, probably later) so you're maybe best putting a bit aside for it, and getting something else for now.

Sure, buy watercooling, or a massive SSD instead.

Big cut in Windows 8 licensing for manufacturers.

    http://vr-zone.com/articles/facing-threat-chromebooks-microsoft-cutting-windows-licensing-fees-70-percent/72527.html
Microsoft is slashing its Windows licensing fees by as much as 70 percent.

The proverbial sources in the known speaking to Bloomberg indicated that Microsoft will license Windows 8.1 for just $15 to manufacturers, provided that the retail value of the handset is under $250. Although a standard Windows license fee costs $50, Microsoft allured most manufacturers by offering incentives like marketing funds for their offerings. Fort the discounted fee, it has been mentioned that Microsoft would not offer any such incentives. It is believed that the form factor of the device is irrelevant, and as long as a device running Windows is available for under $250, manufacturers can get the Windows license for a discount.

Given that they're referring to "handsets" I wonder if it's just phones. Also, if it extends to tablets/netbooks is that for the big manufacturers only or if we can avail of cheap OEM licenses?

What's the current Radeon _850 equivalent? Feel like my 6850 is due a replacement. Particularly interested in something with 2 x Dual-DVI.

    Watercooling ewwwwwwwwwww! :pac:

I might get catleap now and then look for GPU when its out later this year. though I am afraid I wont like too much putting settings down in games. :(

I had suspicion that 800 series will be out after launch of 750ti, but that soon? That's great news!

    I'm **** at decision making :o
I'd kinda like an Asus one too, due to a non reference PCB+backplate. But that's like 20 extra.. What's wrong with me

Why not just pick up a 780 or 770 or whatever you had your eyes on and then use the EVGA step up program? 800 series should be out within 3 months all you've to do is pay the difference between your current card and the card you want and happy days a new EVGA 800 series card.

EDIT: you may be eligible for an upgrade I assume you'd have to contact them first.

Newegg are coming to the UK may bring some competition to Amazon and maybe Hardwarevesande.

780 and 780ti is not a big jump considering the price point they are from my gtx 680. 780 is not even that much better. 780 ti is damn nice, but 600eu for it? **** that.

I will need GPU as I am looking at my next upgrade to be 1440p monitor or one of those 2560x1080. 680 wont cut it.

Yay! However, I doubt there'll be much reduction in prices. Their margins are pretty low as it is. Stuff is just cheaper in the states with lower taxes.
Still they might bring their own partners and we'll have access to parts usually only seen in the US - e.g., like the way you can buy Superflower from HWV, but not in most of the the big UK sellers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I dunno if that'll be the case...

We'll probably only really have an easier-to-navigate HWVS. Newegg.ca for example doesn't have half of the selection of Newegg US.

Still, some competition can't be a bad thing. Bring it on.

Been playing around with FaceTracknoIR and PS3 eye all day... also connected my PS3 controller to fly helis and jets (sry for potato) in Arma 2. Also played A3 and War Thunder a bit with face tracking, pretty awesome. I am actually amazed how precise this thing is, this is definitely something to try for those who are waiting for Oculus Rift to come out, tons of fun :)
PS3 eye seems to be able to output 120fps, mine only goes as far as 75Hz tho, but doesn't matter... normal webcams can be used, but they are locked at 30fps, so software might be less accurate... quite ironically PS3 eye is also cheaper...

Yeah, I almost bought that as well today, but it surely can't be the one in the picture.
I am narrowing in on buying the Sapphire Tri-X 290 though,
anyone know where the best price for it is?

    Here's a good quick vid showing unboxing & noise test;

HWVS is like 420 delivered, but amazon is 435 with better customer service. (2-4 weeks dispatch)

Lads, what would be your general opinion on 2560x1080p 21:9 ratio monitors?
There are good few of them out there and they look reasonably priced in some cases. I was looking at that 29inch dell, which is only about 350-400£ now. Other monitors are in very similar price point. I won't be going with dell unfortunately as it has horrible response times compared with my 2312hm's.

I really love this aspect ratio and it looks like brilliant monitor for gaming due to so much extra screen space on sides. It's just I am afraid that it might end up like 1920x1200 panels? Abandoned and barely supported?
The other advantage I see with that monitor that it would be less taxing on system due to smaller pixel count.

So what do you think lads? Would you? Or I better just get catleap and stick with 1440p?
