in that case, I remember lads dropping this one in bargains forum, it's still cheaper at full price, not sure if voucher works. Think it's the german site you meant, is it?

Good man, that's the site I was talking about, couldn't remember the name of them!

Whacked an email off to hwvs about some R9 graphics cards I bought a while ago to see if they would send me some BF4 keys.

Got 3 keys in an email there. Grab your free copy of BF4 if you missed out on one with your R9 card.

Even if you bought before the bf4 promotion?

I'm not sure to be honest. The cards I got were not part of the BF4 promotion though. Worth a try anyway.

Just give them the reference number for your order.

I tried with an r9 a while ago and said there was no codes available for my card :(

Maybe it's only with brands that are doing the promotion? I got gigabyte cards anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Seaaan

I got a gigabyte card, and a German email back. That's an automated response I assume?
Monitor still held up in customs, sad times..
And now with the hefty charge I'm further away from my 290 :(

My friend just bought a 1100 euro off Custom PC
I told him I would pick parts for him. Annoyance comes to mind. He has a top of the range Gtx 660 in the build.:mad:

I'm trying to get him to cancel. Hopefully he can. I told him five times not to buy from there.

Did up a nice hardwareversand build from him with an 4670k and an r9 290. Raging with him to say the least

€1100 build with a 660? Is the case made of gold?

Granted no cluster of dead pixels/minimal BLB I'll be happy as at 310 its still a bargain.

Ok, so the monitor's perfect. No dead pixels from what I've tested (MS paint white-black etc etc) And slight BLB bottom left. All in all it's lovely. It's very big...

I'm fairly sure there's no problems. I noticed in bioshock infinite that the screen flickered a little, whats the cause of that? And how do I overclock it.. I have the software but like idk how

It's amazing to work with. You can see the 2 boxes I made to hide cables. In those pictures there's 3 sata connections, molex. 5 fan cables connected to 5 cables on the fan controller. 5 temperature sensors. 24 pin and 8 pin are there too.

Boxes are made out of vinyl and cardboard until I get some acrylic.

Depends really,if your framerate is varying it might cause something that looks like a flicker. Try the game again and measure the framerate(Fraps or MSI Afterburner can measure the fps). Drop down a few settings till your getting a fairly solid 60fps,imo 60fps is more important in most games i play over the visuals

Also make sure the DVI cable is properly seated in the monitor and PC ports, did a DVI cable come with it?

Best way to test is just use it really,as in play games, videos, boards.ie(:)) etc. Keep an eye on temps for the GPU and CPU. No harm in finding out what sort of temps your getting at stock,1440p will get things hotter than 1080p. Have a better idea of the sort of headroom you have on the card.

There is also an Overclocking sub forum that is very handy, its linked in one of the main page stickies.

What software (gpu) do you have and do you have the cpu overclocked? You have a fx-6300?

Dvi came with it, yes. Temps aren't great. Playing a VERY undemanding game (League of Legends) it hits 54. Saving for a 290 at the moment as I've mentioned.
Not sure what you mean by software. Yeah, fx-6300 @ 3.8, which is staying close enough to what it was always.

54C is fine temperature for a card at stock,i usually try keep the core temps 65-70C max when gaming and the VRMs below 80C also when gaming. A little hotter in benchmark programs is fine as well imo

By software i mean what program are you using to OC the gpu? Also what are you using to monitor temps?

First step in overclocking the gpu would be increasing the core clock while leaving everything else the same(Except board power limit but need to know program your using). Increase core clock by 25MHz and run a benchmark while keeping track of temps. This will allow you to find out what speeds you can get at stock voltage. Eventually, you will get artifacting, crash, bsod, temps too high or something similar. At that point you have reached the max core clock at stock voltage. So drop the core clock back by 25MHz at that point and test for stability again.

Tbh though if your selling the card you may want to consider just getting by and then OC the 290
