Yeah, nothing. Those people still would have done what they did if they had not been neck-nominated.

If he'd stepped into moving traffic or something equally as stupid is it still the game to blame?
I like how the issue with it has moved from "inappropriate relationships with alcohol" to someone jumping into a river for no reason.

    Yes, along with his/her's stupidity.

I just saw on Twitter and Facebook that neknomination has claimed it's first life. Someone has died after downing a bottle of Morgans.

RIP. And hopefully it stops the ridiculous craze.

Look, we all know it's stupid. We all know that they shouldn't have done it. But we're talking about young people who made a mistake, went too far with sth they thought would be funny and paid the ultimate price for it. I've been against the whole nomination thing from the start but it's easy to see how someone could get caught up in it, especially if they were already out drinking.

Show some compassion instead of getting on your high horses - 2 young men have died. And even if they did sth idiotic, they didn't deserve that. I can't imagine how their families and friends must be feeling, knowing what a needless loss it is.

This, I don't know what sick satisfaction people get out of posting smug comments about the deceased on internet forums, at the end of the day 2 young people lost their lives.

Jumping into a river in January can't be put down to the "game". Also the first case doesn't exactly seem to be based on reliable information.

If I told you to jump from a bridge and you did it should I be jailed?

    No they shouldn't.

RIP to the two young lads, although it appears the first one was unrelated to this stupid game.

This neknominate combines the two things young irish people are mad for.

1 - Showing what a "maaad **** for the drink" they are by downing a pint"
    2 - Social network popularity.

What a load of load of gob****es. Glad none of my immediate friends have done it or else they'd lose some respect in my book.

I really don't get it. Downing a pint. Wow. Such craic.....

Not overdosing but some guy thought he could fly and jumped off the roof of a house.

Dangerous job ahead for the recovery teams, especially with the current capacity of the rivers. Feel awful sorry for the family and friends, no doubt some of them are signed on here, but Jesus it's hard to feel any sympathy for the lad when you see the mess he left behind thru nothing more than a stupid attention seeking ego trip. And I'm sure if he had survived and posted the video his mates would think he is great and people here would tell us it's all a bit of Craic. Pityful. Thought and prayers are with those affected and those with a job to do tomorrow.

    Just seeing now.

I can't believe someone would jump into a river after thinking it's a competition. I can't believe it...

    RIP to the man.

Unless someone told him to jump into the river while he was very, very drunk then I wouldnt consider anyone responsible but himself. He was nominated to down a pint. Some people add something to it but there is nothing about you have to make the best video so that everyone thinks youre great.

Some guy tried it, but he was too lazy to make an accompanying video, then forgot what he was doing and ate a bag of chili heatwave Doritos instead

I was in work earlier reading about the DJ who died in Dublin, and now this..

Feck sake lads.. I know Neknomination was started as a bit of fun but it seems like sensibility just gets thrown out the window..

Anyway making smart comments should be ashamed of themselves. Jonny was one of the nicest lads you could ever meet, never a bad word to say about anyone. Heavily involved in gaa both at club and county level. He is one in a million and his death has sent Leighlinbridge and the surrounding areas into mourning.

    Absolutely devastated. RIP.

To be honest, i've been watching this going on all week with my FB page and I said to myself that i'd give it a go if it reached me. Turns out it hasn't reached my close circle of friends yet and even if it does I'll dismiss it after what's happened. I suspect this'll be the end of it nationwide.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 149 ✭✭Chris The Hacker

I don't believe the game is the blame for what happened to Jonny, he misinterpreted how it was played and died through no fault but his own. Also, jumping into a river in February after flood warnings announced across the country is never a bright idea.

I know this is a crazy idea but you could probably do it without jumping into a river.

I still don't get the point of this thing. You're necking a pint. Big deal. Add some eggs or goldfish to it if you want but its still completely stupid. Its getting so popular that people are taking extra steps to stand out from the others for their 15 minutes of fame.

When its claiming lives its time to stop but of course most people will continue it because they'll think 'That won't happen to me' or they will be afraid of what their friends think of them for not participating in some childish game.
