I'm 25 and I haven't seen anyone post a ''neknomination'' video on my facebook page, I am in my final year in college so I do have a few friends in their early twenties but they must be more sensible than I thought!

I haven't watched the videos and while it seems like another pointless trend I can't understand (from the age of 22 there have been many trends I cannot understand, I've gotten old), I guess it could be funny and safe enough if it is just a pint of Guinness.

When I was a teenager I often drank a naggin or a double naggin straight, and at the age of fourteen I probably would have joined in a ridiculous trend like this. However, I'd expect people in their late teens and early twenties onwards to be aware of the dangers of drinking large amounts of spirits, especially downing pints of them. It seems incredibly idiotic to me.

It is wrong to blame the deceased for drinking that much and doing a stupid dare surely they know right from wrong

A neknomination appeared on my newsfeed yesterday. My first thought was that it was strange as coming from one of my english buddies and I had thought this was an australian/irish thing (have not seen the news much this last week!).

But on watching the video it was his video the english lad took of one of his irish buddies necking a pint of ale and nominating the next person etc.

that link above, is just disgusting! its like Jackass v Dirty Sanchez, people think this has been done before, how can I escalate it, its the witty or doing non mental stuff in public or on that tv show I find hilarious. The ones where you are just cringing or feel sick or dont want to watch it are s**t!

From I've gathered, this craze is even more popular with the under 18yr olds. It's stupid and another side effected of social media.

I have three teens, oldest 18 in few months. When discussing this with them, I was told where's the harm, it's only a bit of criaic.
They can't seem to comprehend how dangerous it is. This is after hearing of the deaths that have occurred taking part in these dares. Of course I am the nagging mother. Now I will say that these three ususally have their heads screwed on and have yet to do anything too stupid. Their response to this has however left me worried.

They'll be most likely doing it anyway necking drinks regardless of this social media challenge, it's what teenagers do. Most teenagers and young adults survive but unfortunately a tiny tiny minority make a bad decision that turns out to be fatal.

Overall from what I've seen it's mostly harmless, just people drinking a pint of beer. We've all done it, usually you want to leave pub, so you'd drink the last one fast or maybe a forfeit or something.

    how dangerous is it?

The neknomination in itself isn't dangerous. The ignorance, lack of awareness or even considering what a sudden huge quantity of alcohol can do to someone is.

    indeed. neknomination itself isn't dangerous.

What did we blame alcohol-fuelled stupidity on before NekNominations?

In the good old days, like.

The "alcohol fuelled stupidity," part of this isn't really the main issue. It's the sense of a nominee needing to do "one up" on someone else which has lead to it becoming "alcohol fuelled stupidity," that is the issue. This happens with all fads, with copy cats, getting bored of the copy cats and looking to do something more extreme.
