No, Steiger had the rights and they gave them to Budweiser :p

Earlier on the thread someone mentions Australians doing it with all sorts of stuff.

Was it a litre of whiskey or a pint? (not that it matters but) reports vary.

May the chap rest in peace, seeming like there might be no connection to a neknomination thing though.

Here is a link to the video i mentioned earlier, if they are at this level already, it can only go one way.

^^^^ Video above is dead on.

I got nominated today and I'd like to either post that video or just copy it myself. I've decided to ignore it however. It's been 23 hours now. I'll have to assume that nothing bad happens to people that don't participate in the 24 hour time frame (apart from me being a dick according to some Australians).

    another dead tonight from it.
    copied and pasted from facebook.

Everyone across the world please like and share

This neck nomination **** HAS TO STOP RIGHT NOW my young 19 year old brother Jonny Byrne from Carlow died tonight in the middle of his nomination. He thought he had to try and beat the competition and after he necked his pint he jumped into the river. After 5 hours of searching he is still not found. If people have any decency and respect they will refrain from any more of this stupid neck nomination ****

Please like and share — with Bobbie Mahon and 99 others.

I'm seeing references on facebook and twitter tonight that some young lad in Carlow died doing his video, he jumped into a river?

Edit - same source as above post

Unfortunately it's facebook most of those "please like and share" stories are full of made up sh1t! So, it may have happened, or it may not. Hopefully the latter.

The old correlation doesn't imply causation phrase comes to mind with these 2 deaths. It's still an incredibly retarded concept all the same.

Well there's a link to the victim's own profile in that "like and share" post which is full of RIP messages from his friends. (I appear to have a mutual friend with him, who has also shared the above post). I think that this one is, unfortunately, true :(

No interest in this fad, complete bollocks, schoolyard shyte when you think about it, except it involves cameras, laptops and drinking alcohol like a pig. Conformist peer pressuring crap to make feeble minded people follow like sheep.

The world gives me a headache sometimes...I also say it as a 25 year old man.

What does that have to do with downing a pint?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,877 ✭✭✭SureYWouldntYa

Im 19 and think it's complete and utter scutter. I've been nominated 3 times, and some people are gonna nominate me again because i won't do it.

It's not funny downing a load of drink, it also doesn't any skill. What is the sense in it ?

It was going on in Aus when I was there, how I feel about them some off them are funny when lads put on a story about the nomination,
what I dont understand is the wannabe hard man not just doing a pint and trying to think they are the coolest thing ever, takes it from a bit off light hearted humor to making yourself look like a complete tosser

It's typical macho nonsense some Australian delinquent came up with, now it's spreading like wildfire, I'd imagine a lot of the people we shipped off to Australia are landing in emergency rooms after doing it after a feed of drink already. Painting a lovely picture of our reputation abroad. I love a few drinks like anyone else but I don't take it to extremes.

If I pay the bones of 5 euro for a feckin pint, I'm going to savour it, not gulp it down in one go like a fool.

Peer pressure to make sure that your nomination beats the previous craziness, so that your e-penis on social media can be bigger than everyone else's?

I just woke up to see Jonny's brothers status on FB telling people to stop doing this. I'm just speechless.

    So nothing then.

I am high and mighty about it. I'd like more for the country, we have such an immature and dangerous attitude when it comes to alcohol.

Definitely. I hope next they'll target the scourge of kids playing truth or dare.

    So nothing then.

Yeah, nothing. Those people still would have done what they did if they had not been neck-nominated and pressured into beating the last nomination that had some razzmatazz.
