You're making me want fancy tyres. And fancy wheels to put them on!

    What you getting built?

Edit: there's a good chance that your wheels are delayed due to me giving holy boy an annoying time consuming job to do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

The wheels are not that fancy, they are meant to be durable and survive many winters. Campagnolo Omega Strada XL rims on novatec hubs.

And here are with the wheels. Looks quite retro, I need a steel colgano now. Anyone wants to trade one with a carbon planetx?

Having been enjoying cycling my second hand Carera vituoso for the last couple of months or so, last friday the front tyre developed 2 large bulges. No problem say I, they were only cheap kendas that came with the bike. I'll get a new set of something good for the winter.
Went into the LBS and after looking at all the cycling porn for awhile I decided, what the hell I could spring for a reasonable set of wheel while I'm at it. I'll be thinking of getting a better bike next spring and will have the wheels for that if needed. €250 for Mavic askiums with gatorskins fitted, they'll do grand. Mechanic tells me bring in the old back wheel and he will change the cassette on it for me. Great I'll be back tomorrow.

Saturday and a problem, cassette is only an 8 sprocket, will need a spacer, might not fit on a new bike in the future without some difficulty. You should consider a new bike now, says he. I have some very nice ones in stock, says he. Ah ha he is just having me on and trying to make a sale of a whole bike. I only want a front tyre, i'll resist. Get thee behind me satan.

Surfice to say that tomorrow I become the proud, if somewhat surprised owner, of a brand new Cube Peleton Race. A €1000 for a new front tyre!!

I'm sending my wife to do all my shopping for me in the future.

Oh god , my wife, I haven't told her about it yet.

Here are two pics I owed you guys from the lights.

First one is the original 900 lumen magicshine

    WQlWpM5.jpg

And the second one is the new 9800 lumen

    YqFHbK2.jpg

It's mental, you can't see it in the pic but the light reaches the house behind me, 20meters away.

Edit: Yes I know I need to cut the grass... again.. it's too wet though :p

That's insane, surely that has to be like using your high beam on a car, it'd blind someone going around a country road!

Anyone see that in the news that the police helicopter's search light has been stolen?

My own photon cannon arrived this morning. It's big alright but looks sturdy. My only concern is whether the mount is strong enough. Looking forward to trying it out.

And here is a photo with the small and the big battery. The big battery is almost 400grams!!

i bit the bullet after your post and bought the battery as well, you're right, it is big compared to the one from my magicshine.

i was considering building a little switching rig which would allow me to have both batteries mounted and switch between the two. however, given the size of this one, i'm struggling to imagine the ride that would need more juice than it can provide, on the mtb at least

I never thought myself to be one who is lead by advertising but Skodas have become strangely attractive to me in the last 2 years i.e. the time frame in which I have started taking cycling seriously. I reckon my next car will be a skoda estate
