Yes I am with RSA - Yes my policy renewal went up. BY 85%

Have gotten quotes from almost everyone else for 80% - 85% less. Including 123.ie's own public site using a different name.

Aul arse, if the person on the phone hasn't the the authority to sort the problem then you should be able to speak to someone who has the authority. I take it you didn't last long or is that call centre shut? No surprise either way lol
While I do agree with you that managers should take calls, you would be surprised just how many call centres run like that. Large ones too, it isn't the type of thing to cause a company to go out of business (not in the short/medium term at least - we're as bad a country at voting with our wallets as we are with our feet).

Some people in mid-management in call centres work really hard. Others do less than probably any other people in any other jobs I have ever come across.

Maybe in the company's policy, but not legally. Don't forget that the till and the camera are timestamped, along with the logs on the pumps. Very easy to show that the petrol you pumped at 20:53 was never paid for.
There's always the "honest mistake" defence (happened to my Mum once), but legally you don't get away with just because the cashier doesn't ask.

yeah its timestamped, till wouldnt matter as I need to press pump 6 to get that into the transaction. It would pop up on top of the screen what is on my pumps alright so thats why they ask were you pump 4. Its still my fault for not asking someone if they got fuel.

I had one guy the other day which is how I learnt it, he got out of the car with his son and he came in to buy coke and sweets and his friend filled it up. The guy who came in forgot to pay, I realised what happened and we couldnt check the cameras as the one I was with didnt know the password, to see what he had given me when paying as I could have forgot to put the petrol in the transaction.

He came back a while later and paid anyway, but he would have gotten away with it as I saw him get out of the car but didnt ask him.

    Exciting stuff.

Does that fat a**ehole from head office still like coming in and shouting at the foreign staff like they're second class citizens? There's some absolute low lifes running that company... I remember they were trying to people to work for less than min wage because "the company is really struggling" - that same week they spent €30,000 on allocations for rugby matches in Croker (I knew this because a friends' girlfriend happened to work in the head office).

Some lovely people in there, but a pile of sh**bags of the absolute highest order running the show, unless things have changed since.

No idea, only been there 3 weeks. hopefully I only have another week there. I havent met anyone from head office, but anyone who I met has been grand, its only topaz and they all know it.

I also get to tell travellers to **** out of the store as well. I am living the AH dream of discriminating against them. Its only one family but its a start. Robbing family.

Well worth the 8.65 just to be able to do that.

while working in the bistro of a well known hotel in Cork not so long ago, all the glasses and cuttlery were polished with napkins that were clean, but stained and deamed unfit for the tables, all well and good says you. But when the supply of polishing napkins was exausted for the night my co workers would pull out 'clean looking' napkins from the dirty napkin bin. i.e. the napkins that a customer would have used to wipe there mouth earlyer in the evening, and use these to polish the glasses and cuttlery and wipe the tables.

one night while cleaning coffee station in the kitchen i moved the coffee machine to finde at least 6 months of dried coffee stains, it was like looking at the rings of a 100+ year old tree, when i reacted with disgust my co worker gave out saying i shouldnt move the coffee machine, that they dont clean under there.

but the worst part of that night was what i found on the wall behind the coffee machine when i did move it, a layer of dust, grime and grease, with the still clear fitters markings on the wall in pencil, "coffee machine" and "water boiler". clearly this wall had not seen the damp side of a cloth since the kitchen was kitted out in the mid 90s. this was about 1.5meters from the food prep area and the pass.

all tips that were put on cards or rooms were shared every 3 months, and we only ever saw a fraction of the real amount.

i complained to managment, who, while symathetic, didnt care, and did nothing to fix anything, well no thats wrong they put up a cleaning rota that no one paid any attention to, i quickly found a new job and got the hell out of there.

I'm not sure if that's to do with RSA's current issues or just insurance in general.

Most insurance companies rack up the quote for renewing customers, in the hope that you won't shop around and will just pay up. If you call them up with some of your other quotes they won't be slow in dropping the price.

Yep, pretty much every company does that. Though 85% is a huge leap so it the scandal and/or renewing likely wouldn't account for all of that, they do also change their acceptance criteria every few months or so, so murphym might just not be the "risk" they are looking for right now also.

You would be AMAZED the amount of people who get a €500 renewal quote, call around and get in the €300 region, have their current company only come down to €380 or so... and renew with them all the same.

I used to work in admin in the HSE. It annoys the fcuk out of me to think that I now pay for a load of wasters to sit around all day and do practically nothing, while doctors and nurses are run off their feet because they cant get the help the need because people like the ones I used to work with are protected by their unions from being let go(most aren't good enough to work elsewhere, so they couldnt be redeployed).

I have no problem paying my taxes to the HSE, I just wish that my money was spent in a better way , on taking care of the poeple that really need it

What's the problem with that

As long as it wasn't chipped, and was regularly cleaned, can't see a thing wrong - seems like an ideal solution!

Having briefly worked in a McDonalds many years ago, I can vouch that its possibly the cleanest place you could eat in. The amount of cleaning the staff have to do is phenomenal.

The same can be said for Subway. You could lick the floors it's so clean - probably kept cleaner than most classy restaurants. There are monthly audits and everything to make sure the standard is kept so high. I'm actually really surprised that it's never mentioned to the public at all

If you get petrol in a station and go in and let's say get a bottle of coke and bring that up and say nothing about the petrol you will get away with the petrol as its very hard for them to pin the blame on you for a drive off if the till person didn't ask for petrol.

To anyone thinking of trying this; dont. You're effectively saying that it's okay to put a bottle of coke in your pocket and walk out because the cashier didn't ask if you had anything in your pockets. Or dine-and-dash in a restaurant because the waiter didn't bring you a bill without you bothering to ask for one.

If you fill up your car, you owe the company a debt.

Happened to me loads of times when I worked in a petrol station and every time the guards had no problem coming to collect the CCTV and pay a visit to the persons home.

My petrol station also blacklisted people we thought had done it intentionally and would make them prepay in the future. ;)

This is only the case in garages operated by idiots and workers who don't know their rights or their jobs.

Nope. Not unless you fill up and drive off. The onus is mostly on the till person. Since most of the cameras don't have sound, they will show you enter the shop and pay, but not hear the till person ask for petrol.

Technically when they release the pump, they should have a make of car and description.

It's a lot harder for the shop to get you since it was the till persons mistake.

I work in topaz at the moment and this happened me, your man filled up 2 cars and came in and paid for one and I asked what pump it was and he was very vague.

Turned out to be my fault.

If they come into the store I have to make sure I ask for petrol and that crap.

Important job I know. Good ol temporary jobs while I apply fr other jobs.

No you don't, the station owner is taking the p*ss out of you. You should ask them if they got petrol, but it's still up to the person to pay if you neglect to ask, any relatively modern station will be cctv'd up and have all the till transactions going to the camera watching the till, making it easy to identify any people dodging paying.

While doin customer service for a fairly big Irish company I used to do a fairly intricate champions league, that involved teams and groups being picked out of a hat....goals even decided from two different pots...for example if Real Madrid where playin basle, I would pick madrids goals from pot one as it had more higher numbers then pot 2....

Did the same for the World Cup....Portugal your welcome

I worked at an engineering consulting firm that were too mean to buy licences for all of their windows os and applications. They use to buy the machines without anything installed and then copy from an existing machine. Thought about reporting them after I left but didnt bring the details with me. The ironic thing is that they develop and sell their own software and were very strict about licencing of their products.

That's right proper dump of a place, no career progression, the glass ceilings in there are a joke.

I will never eat pick and mix again after seeing what kids do to it over the last few weeks.

I saw a kid last night with snots all over his face pick sweets out of the pick and mix thing, take a bite out of some and throw them back in while his father was talking to someone.
