No sign of any dodgy NIW vans, devil fuelled smoke machines, or steely C5s this morning on the A1 :D

I did see the most weird reg plate BIG 21 on a red TDI A4.

And one of those weird looking Mini Cooper Ds, they look like a normal mini on steroids.

Didn't see any demented GTV drivers either! Saw a Spider though :) We weren't there long and shot off to Portadown afterwards :)

I'm still stuck at the roadworks in Slane. You think they'd be finished at this stage

Take the backroads through the Sallys and Grangegeith, you dodge the Slane roadworks and end up near Arseville Collon :)
Saw a 98 dark green S8 in Cork today with German plates, Matt Simis old car maybe??

I saw an S8 today of that vintage too :) and a BMW 1M Coupé :D

I was fairly demented by the time I got home.

On the M1 there was some weirdo driving an HGV who kept putting on his full lights (it was one of those cabs that lights up like a Christmas tree) then dimming, then full lights, for a good two miles.

Then when I came off J4 of the M1 to get home, some freak in a Micra stopped dead in the middle lane of the flyover just at the merge, then swerved into the right most lane, then discovered she couldn't go right onto the northbound M1 so went down towards Swords, not realising the the lane she was in merged very quickly with the "middle lane". She stopped dead at the merge, causing much piling on of brakes, and a pile of furious drivers undertaking her (thankfully I was ahead and watching the merry goings on in my mirror)

Then just as I was almost home, a monster HGV came flying out of lidl, shot across the road, and into the path of the oncoming traffic with no warning, completely blocking the road while he turned. I of course managed to be the first car in the oncoming traffic. He literally came to a stop about 3 feet in front of me.

I'm going to have a restful evening, and not move from the sofa.

I can't understand why people are driving so un-necessarily slowly  For example we had to deal with some anus from Collon to Slane with a cattle trailer who wouldn't keep in doing about 50kmh then some arsehole in a Unimog creeping from Slane to almost all the way home. What pricks about today!!! :(

Great minds and all that, open fires lit, exhaust adjusted again and I'm on the sofa enjoying a lovely sit :D

You just reminded me that the other three were so bad, I completely forgot about the plank in the Honda Civic doing 80kph on the M1!

I wish someone would make my dinner :D

I think I'm going mad, my turbo actuator is beeping. I'm not joking, I may get a video.

The minute I turn the car off or unlock it!

I wonder when I thought something was going in the turbo but it seemed perfect could it have been this actuator all along?

Not too bad on the motorways but on national roads it really gets on my nerves.... Twats like that will never understand the horrors of trying to get anywhere in a hurry with a non turbo van

I go back roads to clonmel when I'm going to college. It's 30-40km from my house to clonmel and speed limit is 80-100km and there is literally 5 places you can overtake on the road it's a bad enough road very bendy/ hilly. But every time I'm guaranteed to get stuck behind a truck or slow moving car doing 65kmh or something it can get very annoying. This Monday morning was the first time I can remember that I didn't get stuck behind anything and I drive that road at least twice a week. I leave at 5am every Monday morning and I'm still shocked at how many cars are on the road at that time. I can't complain too much though I'm so used to cork to kilkenny at this stage the trip never seems too bad 160km.

Had a horrible experience this evening, at least it was for me.

My nightmare has long been breaking down in really busy traffic. It happened today, in bloody rush hour traffic coming on to the M50.

Was coming up the Templeogue Road, just past the Spawell Golf/Resort place and coming up the roundabout where you can either take the first exit off onto the M50 southbound, or straight through on to the Tallaght Road (I think). Was waiting at the roundabout, middle lane as I was going straight through to the Tallaght Road, went to go into first to drive through the roundabout when I heard a small crack, and my gearbox went completely limp. Couldn't move off, so I put on my flashers straight away and tried in vein to get it into first. It was nice of people to blow their horns at me, as if I had decided to just throw on my hazards so I could have a quick nap or something :( This was at around 6pm too so traffic was mental.

Some very nice man stopped and helped us push it to the side of the roundabout, up on the curb. A dangerous place, but it was too far to push it down onto the M50 sliproad where there was a service vehicle space. Another guy stopped as well to help, but I was too panicked to catch their names. Big thank you to them if they happen to be reading. Have only gotten used to driving up in Dublin recently too, have only stopped using my SatNav the past couple of weeks!

Aviva sent a guy out, he put it into gear manually (didn't know you could do it!) and told me I'd have to drive home in what was either 3rd/4th gear. He stressed that I wasn't to touch the gear stick at all, which was difficult as hell as I've a bad habit of nearly always keeping one hand on it. Anytime I'd come to a stop and have to take off again i.e. at the Leopardstown Road roundabout or coming on to the Stillorgan Road, it would be really slow as I was pulling off in a high gear. Again, people were blowing their horns at me the whole time. I also did something stupid - the Aviva guy drove the car as far as a service area where he could take a proper look at it. And in my panic/stress, I never turned my lights back on pulling out onto the M50 as the service area is really well lit. Drove a good 100/200 yards with my lights off on the M50, I felt like such a tit when I realised. (Again, if anyone is reading who saw me, apologies!)

Some cable that connects the gearstick to somewhere else with a connection at both ends had snapped. Clearly you can see I know my motor mechanics :( Anyone any guesses to what it is, and if it's a big fix? 1999 Hyundai Accent - never any trouble until now.

Feel like an idiot for panicking so much, I definitely didn't keep a cool head. And it was freezing! (Was NOT waiting in the car where we pushed it to, too dangerous!).

Ugh. Lost without the car now, girlfriend's graduation and all tomorrow. Fúck you Tuesday!

What kind of actuator is it?

Maybe best to check the turbo itself... Whip off the pipe going to the turbo and feel the shaft for any kind of play (feck off you dirty minded lot :pac:)

Hearing stories like this is one of the main reasons for the big turbo swap. Some places on the R147 have a narrow band to overtake, I need to make the most of it when I need to. I try to leave at times when there is less traffic though, that helps significantly

That sounds terrible. at least it's over now and at least someone stopped to help. Something similar happened to me at the start of the year. I broke down on the m8 close to toll bridge 120km from home. Lost power pulled in and I just assumed I'd turn the key and the car would restart first time I had ever broke down so wasn't used to the whole thing. Anyway it didn't restart and I was as far in on the hard shoulder as I could go. This was late evening time. I was stressed out but what stressed me out even more was the fact that every second car that passed me blew me out of it and give me head lights.

I found it terrible I don't know if people were that thick to think I had chose to stop there or that If they blew enough at me the engine would magically restart. I had parking lights on and hazards on I don't know what more I could do. To top it all off when I rang my insurance company well known company they told me I had no breakdown assist as they dropped the cover last year again i should of checked but I wasn't used to the whole break down thing. Anyway ended up waiting four hours for a truck to come from Kilkenny to recover me and as you could imagine it wasn't cheap.

Still I'd imagine breaking down on a roundabout was worst. Hopefully it's only a gear linkage or something like that. Anyway hope you get it sorted quickly and cheaply.

Can anyone tell me when the t/belt and waterpump is due on a 106BHP 1.5dci Renault engine.

I'm 90 percent sure it 90k km if not its 120k km can't remember which one but I think it was the 90k on the one we had.

Edit googling it there it seems to be 120k km or 5 years if it's the older pre 09 model the newer one seems to be different again. I don't know why I thought 90k maybe that when our one was done.

I'm getting many, many different timeframes on this.

It's a one owner UK car with 36k miles on it. I've been told 100KM, 120KM or 160KM and that it should be done every, 3, 5 or 10 years if the mileage hasn't been reached.

I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone I've asked so far.

Go with 120 k km or 5 years I think its 160k km for the new model hence the different answers. What year is it?

I'm losing my voice :( It's been going all day ( I talk a lot and do a lot of presenting as part of my job) By the end of the day today it was intermittently going and now it's down to a whisper :(

My focus is due at 200k km or 10 years timming belt done at 113k km due to wet belt crankshaft seal I was seriously sick have to change it bad enough having to replace other parts without doing a timming belt on top of it. Still if in doubt do the belt if the car is worth anymore than 1500 euro or so.

Meh, the t sparks are 36k miles.... Lets throw in 2 Daily belts (40,000 miles and a right pig to change), a 1.2 fire and 1.1 fire. How does 7 belts in 1 year to change sound? :p

    It's a 2006 Clio 106bhp Dynamic S model with a 6 speed box. So 120k KM's or 5 years.

    2006 C5

The DV6 (the little 1.6hdi) has a silly long T-Belt interval, though it seems to fine with it so touch wood it will last a bit more. Great wee engine.

Had a presentation in college today. Died on my feet. I hate presentations.

I don't know why I assumed megane. Could well be different again so. If it hasn't already got a belt it's due either way as it definitely 5years.

Okay, okay you win (you were always going to)

The tbelt on the clio was a piece of piss. Simple job, even for a gob****e like me with the haynes manual.

It's practice tbh, I nearly died of nerves doing my first presentation to 50 odd people, now I regularly do them to three times that.
