Handed in my first card today after joining Roganstown during the week.

Out in 38 after a sloppy double on the first but came back strong with 2 birdies on 6 & 8. Then the weather came and the course was borderline unplayable for the back nine. Home in 54. Not sure what the handicap secretary will make of that card.

30pts today 95 blows average front 9 (that I ended with a 4 putt DB) 17 points, level 2's until the 16th, then brought home a massive 1 point from the last 3 holes.

Was a good day weatherwise in Moate on Sunday and while I was steady enough for most of the round I wasnt playing as well as I had the previous week when at times the weather was appalling. Go figure!

34pts / 89 shots. Had a good run mid round with 4 pars in a row, 7 to 10, but I left a lot of chips and putts well short of the intended target which didnt help overall.

Winter rules in play on our course. Drop in rough, place on fairway. Played in the singles competition yesterday.

Driving was poor...snap hook is rearing its head. Cost me on at least 3 holes. Other than that, played ok. 2 out of 2 sand saves being the highlight of my round, long time since I have had 100% from bunkers.

    Details:

    Hcp: 11
    Points: 37

    Birdies: 2
    Pars: 9
    Bogies: 3
    Doubles: 2
    Scratches: 2

    GIR: 7/18
    Fairways Hit: 6/14
    Putts: 30 putts
    3 Putts: 1
    Sand saves: 2/2

    42 points off 15 - 1st place.

    9 FIR
    8 GIR
    34 putts

Played well and got lots of luck. Although not too many putts dropped for me in the round.

Hit trees on 7, 8, 8 again, 13, 14, 18 and 18 again. I got a good kick on all of those occasions! On 14 I went into the middle of a tightly packed clump of trees. It would be difficult to get in to look for your ball and playing it would be more than likely impossible. My ball kicked out into the rough and I got up and down for par!

    I don't think it's a qualifying comp unfortunately.

Had 26 points Saturday for a 13 hole winter comp. Decent scoring i think given the weather conditions.

Driving was superb, straight and long. But then there's the short game...

If I could pitch/chip and putt even half decently i'd be about 5 shots lower on the handicap

91 gross today. Using new irons and driver with a break of a little over a week since I was last out so it wasn't bad at all, even managed a birdie. Hopefully back out Friday for another rou d to see if I can break into rhe 80's for a second time

That's the nature of the game, you think you have it Sussed & then it bites you in the ass.

Anyone who thinks they have this game Sussed is kidding themselves. Every now and then it gives you hope then it cruelly rips it from your grasp.

86 strokes today in the medal off 13. Played steady golf but putter cold again. Iron play has improved.

I'm also working like crazy. Obsession bordering on a compulsion.

-Driving range 5 time a week. 25-60 balls per session. Sometimes two sessions a day. Reckon I'm spending €40 Euro a week on range balls!
-Swing a 7 iron at home in front of mirror.
-Chipping balls onto the couch off a rug during ads in the golf.
-Putting across the carpet into a shoe box with a hole cut in the side.
-Watching loads of Your Tube lessons and slow motion swings - Fook off John Richardson ads!
-Bought a second hand TaylorMade 2007 Burner 460 Driver and two new 56 and 52 milled face wedges in Sept. Love them already.

    Eating, sleeping and drinking golf.

    Working on:
-Maintaining lag. Practicing a few swings without releasing really helping me.
-Stopping casting and coming over the top. Correct grip and open face a top of backswing helping here, along with allowing the arms to roll in release.
-Staying down. Not hopping up or lifting head.
-Turning the shoulders down not around.

This is my goal swing for better or worse as it is closest to the swing I have now.

    Last three outings
36, 34 and 31 for 15 holes off 18. Irons and wedges are starting to become really sweet. Getting there.

    Finally!!

Played in two comps at the club this year. Last one in July. Decided to play today as the Missus was away with the kids and I felt I was hitting it well over the last few weeks.

Went out at 8.20 as an unknown with two Sunday morning regulars. Nice guys and great golfers. One of them shot +1 gross off 5.

15 holes in the comp. Lift, clean and place in fairway and rough.

Pared the first 6. 39 points for the fifteen holes. Got a little embarrassing at times. Hope to get my 20 handicap slashed under general play.

    Couldn't be happier.

    78 Gross (+7), playing off 5

My first club competition at my new club (Roganstown), decent start, really enjoyed it

25 points for 15 holes with 4 birdies...

Unfortunately had to add a few shots on to myself. I thought it was placing everywhere but it was fairway only and i tee'd it up in the rough a nice few times ;)

    Oh well <3

shot 39 (+2 gross) for deerpark st fintans 9hole.
    7 pars
    2 bogies

Chuffed, my highest score on any hole was 5. I've been working on trying to remove doubles and triples from the scorecard.

13 hole competition in Moate on Sunday and I had 30pts which I was happy with but as is usually the case with me it should have been better.

Had a great start with a birdie on the 1st followed by 3 pars on the bounce before going back to level par with a bogie on the 5th.

Messed up the 8th by losing a ball in the ditch which was annoying as it's usually a hole I dont get into too much bother on off the tee. Wasnt able to score with my provisional either. Parred 4 out of last 5 holes after the 8th so I was happy with my recovery.

So a bit of a hot streak - to be honest, just have worked harder on game in last few weeks. I've realised I'm a golfer who needs to go to a pro every few months.

So a good score was due. Played ok - poor from driver and 3 - 3 puts. So nice to score well, when not at your best. Recovering very well with good 6-7-8-9 irons. Had 6 good chances of birdie (made none) - chip in was only bird.

    76 (+5)

    Fairways (21%)
    GIR (56%)
    1 birdie
    6 bogies
    11 pars
    32 putts.

So that is the sub 80 thing put to bed. Need to try do it on another course and start playing more competitive golf - as was said to me a good while back - scoring when it counts is real golf.

Shot a 96 gross with some bad driving and poor pitching in Moor Park.

Then played a round in Navan which went quite bad. Hit 103 with only 1 par.
My excuses for that day were,
The pro there said I should try a interlocking grip over the 10 finger. Worked well on the irons but bad on the pitching.
And I forgot my food, I was starving. Never play well hungry.
    So there my excuses :D

31 points off 17 this morn with 6 scratches thrown in for good measure.

Haven't had one of those rounds in a while, I was horrible off the tee. Driving was a mess.

    Two extremes of golf.
Went 1 under through 5 holes.
Scratched 1 in 3 holes at the same time.

37pts off 18.5 with 3 scratches. first cut all year is on the way, delighted- it's been a long year.

A strange day at the office today 37 points with 2 scratches & 2 net bogeys, makes 2 points for those 4 holes, 35 points for the other 14 holes. 16 on front 21 on back.

    1 birdie
    9 pars
    5 bogeys
    2 double
    1 triple

    57% FIR
    56% GIR
    32 putts

Had 3 poor 3 putts & a couple of 2 putts that should have been singles. But overall my putting was solid enough.

I would say I hit 4 bad shots today. Heavy contact on iron approach to 4th got trees & dropped oob. Tried to force an iron on par 3 5th when I should have hit a smooth club extra. Skied my drive on par 5 7th & lost the ball. Then my tee shot on 16 was the only shot I pushed right all day (unfortunately it's about the only hole where you really can't afford to hit the ball right on the course)

Have to say I'm really happy with the progress I'm making, 3rd round after lesson & it feels very comfortable. Have lost a little distance through a little less lag but the consistency & shape of my ball flight is much better

79 gross (+7) off 15 in Killorglin my home course. It was off the forward tees with placing everywhere. It also was just a practice round, no card being filled.

    9 bogeys
    7 pars
