29 points for 13 holes. Driving much better but still managed to lose one off tee. Best game in a long time.

Ah balls!!!! How can it be placing on fairway but non qualifying? No cut for me!

Unfortunately, once winter rules are in there are no cuts. You can be cut for the winter comps. You can also be cut in the spring on observation for your play over the winter but it is entirely at the discretion of your handicap secretary.

But does "placing on fairway only" not mean it's still qualifying?

worst round in some time. Mercifully we had moved to winter rules so the damage is only mental. A variety of things has meant one session in the range in the last 10 weeks or so, and it was always about to catch up on me. My routine is gone to crap - no shot is the same. 21 points on a day when I hit 8 fairways with smashing drives. The follow up shot was never good enough, resulting in 2 gir (excluding the par 3's).

Worse than all that is the bunkers. I found 6 of them (3 f/w), and took at least two to get out of three of them (the greenside ones). Which is a continuation of a recent theme. Up until maybe 8 weeks ago a bunker was not a bad thing at all.

The competition secretary decides on whether a competition is qualifying. Usually once they start non-qualifying events, that's normally it for the winter.

2 down in VPAR comp off forward tees. Every part of my game was poor today. Actually think it was down to a bad routine and not concentrating.

In May of this year I took back up the game having not played in over 10 years and never had an official handicap. I joined Blessington Lakes on a minor membership and received a handicap of 18 after I handed in 3 cards.

I've played most weekends since, if not twice a weekend at various courses and have been shooting between 92 - 99 (bar a 107 at Killeen Castle) but had yet to play to my handicap.

Yesterday I played Edmundstown, shot 105 and was disappointed leaving. I hadn't planned on playing today but that 105 grated on me so I booked Lisheen Springs for 12pm.

I came in with an 86 for 40 points

    6 Pars
    10 Bogeys
    2 Dbl Bogeys
    34 Putts
    6/18 GIR
    11/14 FIR
First sub 90 round First time breaking my handicap First card with no scratches

    Love this game :pac:

Im not new to Golf but I am new to the Rules and Regs so hope you dont mind the question,

Is this where if you keep hitting 36pts or higher regularly in the winter they cut you?

had 30 points for 13 holes on Saturday including 1 scratch off 18.

should have possibly had 35/36 points but left a few out there and the scratch was a disaster

    Whats qualifying?

3 Over Gross in Carton House Yesterday morning in what was a miserable morning. Was a qualifying comp too although the course is very wet at the moment.

Lost a ball off my drive and the 1st which ended with a scratch so played half decent after that considering I was nursing a mother of all hangovers after Saturday night

33 points for 15 holes yesterday - which is a level par round for me. Really happy with how I played. I had 4 birdies and should have had about 7.

Made some huge putts! and then missed some tiddlers! - but still, it's great to play well :D

    Lol,

88 today - awful at everything.

Couldn't drive , couldn't putt, hit a few shanks, lost 3 balls, only had 4 pars - the rest awful.

So happy with that round - it is about time I was put back in my place. I was beginning to have notions and lose the run of myself.

    So - forget that one.

Pretty much. There are no set rules (that I am aware of) for how it is applied i.e. what the criteria are and how many shots etc...

Pretty miserable myself yesterday as well. Went out early, it was raining when I left the house and it was still raining when I got home :(

Bad start on 1st with a double, taking 4 to get down from 10 yards off the green...but then settled down without setting the world on fire. Made the turn in 17 points. Highlight of the day was after putting a drive out of bounds on our par 5 7th, I had no shot. Reloaded, onto the green in 3 and sank the putt for a 6 to salvage a point!

Back nine started ok but then went on a run of double, double, treble on 13 to 15. After that just coasted home not giving a toss! Finished with 30 points, worst score in ages.

Real reason it happened was that by the back 9, I was totally soaked, feeling idiotic for even venturing out in that weather. No danger of threatening the leaderboard, clubs wet, towel wetter again...only stayed out on the course as a courtesy to my playing partners one of whom was going well.

I noticed that there are no results up on howdidido either. I suspect that the course was closed after I left, wouldn't have been too surprised as the greens were pretty much unplayable by the time I finished.

Going out in weather like that just proves to me that I'm addicted to this game, despite what it puts me through :D

Saturday - Hadn't picked up a club for 3 weeks so really up for it.

37 pts off 18. Missed 6 putts from inside 10 feet.
    7 pars, 7 bogies, 2 d/bogie & scratched both 17 & 18 (both lost drives !)

Lousy finish to an otherwise decent day.

Best round since I started, 34 pts off 26, short game plan needed to get me down to 18!

95 gross. Head got the better of me on 2 hopes costing me 5 shots compared to usual. Driving was average aswell. New Irons feel like they're finally working for me, so much I have to take less club compared to before and pitching really well. Sure it can only get better right?

    ..right??

Great day for a game on Dooks links today in Kerry. Had 37pts off (15), but felt i left a few behind me. Am happy with the state of my game at the moment :)

99 gross on a very windy and freezing day.

Putting was atrocious, some 4 putts after been on the green in 2 on some par4's.

Currently putting across the room lol

35 points today off 15. 9 putts missed from between 2 and 5 feet. Two good 1 putts from about 4 and 8 feet. This is typical of me - giving myself loads of chances to pick up 3 and 4 pointers and taking a tiny fraction of them. It was the same last Sunday - 6 birdie putts from between 2 and 8 feet and I made none.

To be fair I hit enough bad shots today to not deserve a good score.

Handed in my 3rd HCP card today after joining Roganstown a month back.

    Card 1: 94 in a howling storm
    Card 2: 88 on a good day when I just played ****e
Card 3: 80 today with a triple on the 12th. Even par coming home after that was nice.

Throw these cards in with a HCP cert of 4.6 from my last club in Oz 3 years ago.

Anyone want to run a book on what my new HCP will be?

lost 2 balls, 1 on blind par 5 after lovely 2nd shot, bullin after it (fecking leaves and rough) other ball lost off tee, ball never cut like it normally does haha

    Result:

    84 Stroke
    32 Putts
    4 Pars
    1 Birdie
    11 Bogeys
    2 Double Bogeys

    44pts off 23
40pts off 18 (this is my aim)
