I'd say closer to half of that

Only a guess from me - I was working on the basis that they will place more weight on cards than an old cert ???? considering time of 3 years ?

Yes but best card is 80 with triple so 78 if rounding down to bogey. That taken with old handicap would say to me he's capable of playing to it fairly quickly again no ?

Yes but if a lad hands in an 88 and a 80. (ok 80 could be a 77)

Is it not the 3 cards -

I don't know how it works - But how could that lad get single figures.

    Will see.

I'm only guessing too but my guess is they go on best.

I handed 108, 110 and 113 and got 18. Others had similar cards to me in other clubs and got 24. Go figure.

For what it's worth, I'm going to say 6-7. I know my current ability is closer to 9-10, but I'm confident I could play to 6-7 within the first 3 months of next season.

If they give me any more than that ill call the handicap secretary myself. The last thing I want as a new member is to get a reputation as a burglar.

    So 9-10 then.

Handed in my 3rd HCP card today after joining Roganstown a month back.

    Card 1: 94 in a howling storm
    Card 2: 88 on a good day when I just played ****e
Card 3: 80 today with a triple on the 12th. Even par coming home after that was nice.

Throw these cards in with a HCP cert of 4.6 from my last club in Oz 3 years ago.

Anyone want to run a book on what my new HCP will be?

Good man, very same as me, same club too

    Card 1 = 79
    Card 2 = 86
    Card 3 = 76

Birdied 17th and 18th which was particularly pleasing
Hope to get my handicap on Monday

When i took Golf back up (properly) few months back i handed in similar cards and got 24,
A lad i play golf with handed in higher cards (wayyy higher) and got 18,
I was told that alot of clubs dont like giving out handicaps higher then 18, they take it that, thats the highest a male handicap should go.....

Nice cards. I birdied 18 too this morning. Lipped out on 16 and 17 for birdie also. Just had a brain fart on 12.

You need to take into account the different handicap systems in place. Australia use a similar system to the US, which I would estimate gives handicaps 1-1.5 shots lower than CONGU in the lower ranges.

How is it calculated over here?

Many people think it is an aggregate of the three cards Fix, it isn't, well, it can all depends on the HC sec I suppose. A lot is up to their discretion.

My 3 cards were handed in to our HC sec as I walked off the 18th. I had my HC about 5 mins later. The Sec only looked at my lowest card.

The wait is over , drumroll please!!

    New handicap = 6

Lower than I was expecting but it's probably fair. If I keep my hand in over the winter it won't be long into the season next year before I'm playing to it. I guess the secretary wants to be cautious, the last thing they want is a new member playing through the winter and coming out blazing in March with a handicap too high.

The challenge is out there now. Bring my game to the level of the handicap before the handicap comes to my level.

Good stuff, they gave me 5, I can see me doing much damage off that but I want to be as low as possible so I'm pretty happy with it.

    Onwards and downwards !

    Good stuff. We'll have to arrange a game. A little boards.ie encouragement/competition.

Played Moate this morning and was 2nd in my category in the 13 hole Turkey Competition with 30pts. Score also contributes to my team in the Winter league. I played nice steady golf. No major disasters, one or two putts that might have dropped to make it better but I have no real complaints.

I had an Eagle on Sunday - only my 2nd game in a month and it showed - save for the eagle of course - a 3 on a Par 5 on the back 9. The tees are pushed forward in Winter so it's obviously very reachable :) but still. A 250yd 3 wood down the middle followed by a 220yd hybrid to 15 feet, holed the putt for an Eagle and a tasty 5 pointer! The only highlight of an otherwise erratic round. At the opposite end of the golfing spectrum, earlier in the round I'd left myself a tiddler for Birdie on a Par 3 having stuck a 9i in to 3.5 feet. 2 putts later I had a 4 footer for 1pt and Bogey  - you have to laugh.

The wait is over - finally broke 90!!! :D It nearly turned out to be the perfect day yesterday(God damn AB's).

I didn't make it easy for myself with an 8(Yes that's +5) on the Par 3 third hole which was only playing about 120 downhill yesterday so GW for me.

New driver in the bag(thanks Neckedit) worked great so will be selling my old one(cheap plug:P).

That finish was nearly as tight as the rugby ssbob!!!!
Did you go for a cross field kick on 16 and 17 just to make it interesting? :D
    Delighted you hung in.

Couldn't hold the clubs my palms were so sweaty:D. Should have had a lot more shots to spare but a ski slope green on 16 and some messing by me on 17 meant I had to get a 5 on the last. Greebo-golf paid off on the difficult last, on in 3, 2 putts for my bogey!

Congrats ssbob, those +++ bogeys need to go. Do that and it won't be long before your shooting low 80s

Great stuff ssbob, to shoot that with an 8 on a hole shows how easy it will be next time:)

    Well done ssbob.

your fairly handy on the old par 5 s.

I have to say the par 3s are shocking.

You'll be below 85 in no time.

Yep they pretty much toss the highest one.

They should look at the other two though.

The handicap you on your potential :)

"Out of nowhere he hits him with an Uppercut" :D

Ya I know that Fix, the 3rd was a real calamity of errors, if I had putted the ball to the hole I probably would have made bogey it's that short! 12 & 17 are 2 tough par 3's over water but still inexcusible and the double I had on the 14th was a mystery aswell as I lipped out for par!

Still delighted to have gotten through this milestone, onwards and upwards!(Downwards:P)

They sound hard then - but on a good day you will be below 85 no problem.

The rugby would have been some day to finish. :)

The H/C Secretary couldn't have got it more spot on. 78 this morning for 35 pts. Very pleased with that, I didn't think I would get that close to my new handicap so early. The scary thing is that I had 4 x 3 putts in that too!

I'll be looking forward to getting my short game back.
