Played in a 3 man scramble yesterday with CharlieIRL and scubapro at the Smurfit Course, K Club. Some spot in fairness but was sopping wet after all the rain.

Hadn't played in about a month so expectations were zero aside from fresh air, exercise and a bit of golf chat. Really enjoyed it because everyone contributed with some great shots. Charlie nearly driving a Par 4 in freezing cold conditions, scuba stitching some approaches to within 3 feet some highlights. Personally I don't remember hitting as many knocked down irons or 3 woods in years but the beauty of scramble, none of them mattered because Charlie and scuba hit way more than their fair share of shots :). We turned 36 with a solitary Birdie given straight back with a missed up and down on our 1st missed green. 2 Birdies on the back 9 and a bogey on the index 1 left us with 71 Gross Par 72) -1. Net score was 65.9 as our handicaps were 10, 18 and 23.

Course was playing tough due to conditions so although it probably didn't make prizes I wouldn't have thought it was a million miles away.

28 points today in 3-club challenge. Desperate front 9 with only 11 points but decent back 9 with 17.

Not sure about format. It can be cruel at times. Selected an 8 iron, rescue and putter. Really struggled in early stages pitching with 8 iron but settled down ok. All greens were temporary so putting was a lottery.

A real eye opener was just how far I was getting with my rescue off the tee, not a huge difference between it and my driver! Something to consider for the future.

Gross 101 in Rathcore today with lots of drops and somehow managed 2 par4's and even birdied the 13th par5 after some shocking irons and driver. 4 triple bogeys

It was extremely wet, had to back track one road to flooding on the way over but the course held up admirably. I'd use spludgey to describe the rough/fairway and perfect for the greens.

Bad score as my first game as a member, may do better before I start handing cards in.

I wouldn't panic about your cards. The 4 triple bogeys will be brought down to double bogeys straight away when they are reviewed.

The 3 cards I handed in were the 1st 3 rounds I'd played on my place & think the best card I handed in was around a 98

Managed to get 13 holes in this afternoon, drove the ball well but irons were a bit iffy.
    9 pars
    1 birdie
    3 bogey's
Positive finish to 2013, onwards and upwards.
    Happy New Year to all

Thats true, something to cheer me up.

The problem wasn't the drop balls really, alot of those shots were tops, thins and chips. It was definitely my worse day in a few months for ball contact, I think I just brought too many swing thoughts onto the course.

I must ask the next time I'm there how I manage to play with someone who can mark my card, maybe join another group.

@MAFC, what HC are you playing off? You seem to be posting some stunning scores

Played Castleknock with a group from boards this morning. Shot 27 off a hc given to me of 20. It was my first time playing 18 holes. Gross 105, 57 out 48 in.

    3 pars.
    6 bogeys.
    5 double bogeys.
2 triple bogeys (1 counted for points on index 2).
    2 absolute disasters.

Yes, well done. For your first time, you played a blinder. You will certainly make a great golfer with time. Lovely shape to your drives too.
    Keep it up.

Thanks Shane. Going to work on the driver for the next while so I can take it out of the boot when I play :) Already looking forward to the next time I get out.
