Didn't wanna start a new thread Lads... just wondering if anyone knows if it's still 'Summer Rules' in Roganstown at the moment? Want to play the Open there tomorrow but won't bother if it's gone to Winter Rules... Cheers...

I always have massive respect for anybody who takes up golf and gets under 18.

Under 18 is good golf - it is very hard to get under 18 In this crazy game. I know lads who where members of golf clubs as kids and , they go back into golf and it takes a year or two before they are near breaking 18.

Ok there are odd balls , just naturals and get to single figures in a year or so - but they are freaks. 1 in 100 sort of dudes.

Sorry , we have drifted into talking about rounds here again - that is against the rules.

40 pts in Killorglin (my home course) off 16. This included three birdies and three double bogeys.

Turns out I won the weekend singles :D. I am now off a 14.7, good end to the year.

In case anyone was wondering, still 'counting' in Roganstown, placing in fairways only - although it wasn't even entirely necessary if you ask me.

I expect Winter Rules will come into play on alot of courses over the next week or two...

Got again today, found even just over a week without playing left me rusty on my short game although my drives are still consistent.

    90 Gross- 4 Par's (2 Par4,2 Par5), 10 bogey's and 4 double bogey's.

Wasn't great but looking at it now I was only 2 shots off my best from last week when I dropped 12 shots on my previous best.

Must have been a day for bad scores, I went out again yesterday against my better judgement and hit 96 with 1 treble.

Should have left it a few days more, I went out feeling fairly stiff, today I feel like I spent all day yesterday hitting myself with the club and not the ball lol

    Golf...........it's a funny ol' game !

Situation: playing for the 1st time in a few months, only playing in my 4th outing this year, so I decided to give our President's prize a lash, in Fota.
I had absolutely no ambitions, just go and have a laugh & put up as good a showing as possible !
The weather was not looking good, a thunderstorm just before I got there & some of the locals came off the course (greens were flooded) and went home!
We waited for a while and as Fota dried out (something they're particularly good at) the sun came out & it was all systems go.

Had a very solid if not spectacular front nine, given my rustiness, but alas there was no rustiness, 3 over for the front nine, 22pts (off 14) & I'm on a roll !
But, was my old form returning, scratched the 10th with bad shot after bad shot. I think my old form stayed with me then as I had to dig deep and not get frustrated and ended up with 15pts on the back nine.

On the 16th I missed a simple par put, I scrambled a point on the 17th and as I stepped up on the (original) 18th Tee box, I asked my playing partner what points I had, he said 37. I then proceeded to scratch the 18th ! So........came off the course thinking, "ok I've let that one slip away, I've had a great day but damn, what could have been!"

But.........to my surprise, I was leader in the clubhouse with 5 to come in. An anxious wait turned into jubilation as I was declared the winner  :)

/the moral of the story: play very little golf and play with a clear head!!

4 birdie putts left in the jaws...

Your partners shouldnt have told you your score! That said bet you regret not knocking a 5i to the fairway and then hitting your second downhill to green once you had made it past the initial trees

    Enjoyed my golf today.
    Only 14 holes open.
Didnt scratch any and ended with 28 points.
    Off 22 h/c
And left lots shots out there.

    92 strokes, 35 points.

started straight two's for 5 holes.

DB, scratch, par, par, DB, par, par, scratch, DB, par, par, DB, par. Frustrating day.

3 times I dumped myself in greenside bunkers from great positions resulting in two of those scratches and a DB. And I'm normally content in the bunkers... I think I was struggling with ample but wet sand - which left me unsure as to whether to pick it off the sand or blast, resulting in me doing neither.

7 pars over the final 11 is solid stuff, but to be 7 over for the other 4 holes in that run is criminal stuff and the difference between this being a so so round and a great one.

    4 fir (driving awful today)
5 gir (3 birdie putts sat in the jaws)
    33 putts (+ scratch)

edit - 27 qualifying rounds this year. 17 0.1's. 5 cuts totalling 4.3. So this is only my 5th time in the buffer :O

    Ah, what could have been...

Arrived to the course to see we were in winter conditions for the first time, which put me in a bad mood!

But I was out, it was a nice morning so why not just enjoy some golf.

Started with a sliced drive on the first & thought, oh no,hope it's not going to be one of those days. But with a great ball back down the middle of the fairway leaving a wedge in, 2 putts & a bogey start on the index 1, so solid recovery.

Things looked up from there, 1 putted the next four holes to go birdie, par, par, birdie.

Next 3 holes were bogey bogey birdie to stand level par after 8 holes. Crushed a 3 wood off the tee on 9 leaving a 9 iron into the green. Unfortunately had my 1st 3 putt if the day, rolling a 2 footer for par around the lip of the hole. So 1 over through 9 & chuffed as I haven't shot as well this year on the opening 9 in my place as in previous years.

Back 9 & the weather changed, wind really got up, was a powerful cross wind on almost every hole & the rain started to come down heavier & heavier so I knew it would be a different course. The back is also the tougher 9 usually.

Maybe it was thinking about the score, I don't know. Drove as well on the back as I did on the front (apart fromone pull hook which I somehow managed to find on 15), but missed more greens, and a few putts came up short. Still, no 3 putts on the back, and just lipped out for what would have been my 3rd 2 of the day on 17. Came back in 9 over, 45 strokes to finish with 82 strokes, 38 points

    57% fir
    33% gir
    31 putts

A bug improvement on my golf of the last month or so, so feeling a lot happier today

Best round of the year today 82 (+10), off 14. Winter rules, format fourball better ball.

Sounds weird but a bit deflated. Started with a beautiful birdie on the first and then parred 2nd to 5th. Bogeys on 6 and 8 and finished front nine only +1 (36 strokes, best ever 9 holes!).But then had a stupid double on 10. Had a 10 foot uphill putt for par, just past the hole. Partner already in for bogey and quickly tapped the return putt and missed it. Technically didn't matter but I was on a (non-counting) score. Bogied 11th but parred 12 and 13 to steady the ship. +4 after 13 and really playing well. Another silly double on 15, blocked drive, good recovery but then duffed chip and missed putt. Possibly best par of the day on 16, long par 5 into really strong head wind. Just missed par on 17, then made a complete mess of 18, sinking a 20 foot putt for double....

Dropped 6 shots on last 5, real pity. My first ever sub-80 round was very much on... maybe next time!

    Career best yesterday :D

    77 (+5) of 12 for 43 points.

5 over on the front nine, after an awful double when i only had 60 yards for my third shot!

Played the back nine in level par and was actually sitting +3 on the 17th tee box, 3 putted for bogey. pulled my drive left on 18, played out sideways and never made the par putt.

I was 3 under through 12-16! birdie par birdie par birdie!

    3 Birdies
    9 Pars
    6 Bogeys
    1 Double

Might have had 33 or 32 points in Ryder jug on Sat. Tough conditions. 9 pars and 4 scratches as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,632 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Golf is a funny old game....

Played my worst golf of the year in the ryder jug - only 3 pars and an assortment of other hilarities! I played every single shot possible, hooks, slices, duffs, tops, skins and shanks, the lot.

Today, I played in Athlone and my front 9 went : Par, Birdie, Par, Birdie, Bogey, Birdie, Bogey, Birdie, Par. I birdied all the even holes on the front 9 to be -2 for the front 9

Back 9 wasnt so good.... Dbl Bogey, Par, Par, Bogey, Bogey, Par, Bogey, Par, Bogey - to finish +4 overall.

but thats why we love it, isnt it :D

Played Moate on Sunday for the first time in 3 weeks and despite the fact that we got hit with some torrential downpours I was playing really well. Ended up with 38 pts (85 shots) but it should have been so much better as I faltered on the run in with 3 x 1 pointers in the last 4 holes.

    39 points off 13
Best round in a while. Maybe thats because i only went around with a light carry bag containing driver, 4 iron, 7 iron, wedge and putter.
Amazing when your club choices are limited how well you can hit it
    1 birdie
    7 pars
    9 bogeys
    1 d.bogey ( on last aarrgh )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭chud1234

haven't posted in a while golf was so bad then boom best round ever -1 placing everywhere .
    I was -3 front 9 and then birdied the 10th to go -4 . I was -4 for the par 5's :)

went out the next day started on a par 5 only to double bogey it :( but finished a very respectable +4
very happy to hit a bit of form after nearly 2 months of bad golf

Amazing how many of us only need a few clubs really

My best score last year (+2 gross) was with seven clubs
    Driver, 3 hybrid, 5i, 7i, 9i, 52 deg & putter

Plan for this winter is just to use 7 clubs and pencil bag

34pts with 4 blanks in tramore's comp. Pretty poor allround really..

37pts in a causal round in Knightsbrook off the whites which is 6891. Lovely course and the best day weather wise we've had for a couple of weeks.
    7 pars
    10 bogeys
    1 Double

Couldn't buy a putt. 36 in total. Guess its just the way it goes sometimes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,724 ✭✭✭blue note

    Off 15.

    33 points - 3 birdies, 3 scratches and another 3 doubles.

    The week before I had 34 points with 2 birdies, 6 pars, 5 1-pointers and 3 scratches.

Before that I'd had a couple of very consistent rounds, just couldn't drop the putts.

Some day I'll get a good score by mistake or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 787 ✭✭✭mafc

    78 strokes yesterday
    9 pars
    1 birdie
    8 bogey's

Short game kept me in it, 29 putts
Driving was not very accurate however I scrambled well to have a decent score.

pissed off again doing my golfshot  long time since I've allowed myself get wound up on the course.

Cold, wet and windy day and my two playing partners are like glaciers, sloping around the place. Hit it, find it, hit it. Or alternatively take 2hrs 20 for 9 holes with no one in front of you when the only sane place to be is indoors.

So I let it wind me up at the critical point in the round when I have made a few mistakes and the round is teetering between salvageable and not salvageable.

opened with a sloppy scratch and meandered along until the wheels finally fell off. 37 putts, 2 fairways and 4 greens. Putting was awful, chipping was awful.

101 blows in what will probably be my last qualifying round of the year. There were hints throughout of my development this year in terms of the good shots that I hit but a disappointing way to finish.
