    But its hot outside!!!;)

    Wednesday 10th July
    Plan:2m easy, 1 min hard, 1min easy x 10, 2m easy

headed out for this a bit earlier and when I was mile down the road it struck me that doing a session on empty probably wasn't a good idea especially in the heat. I decided I'd give it a bash and see how it turned out....I loved it and had no problems.
I did the 2m easy, and then started into the 1min on/off. All I had showing on the Garmin was the lap time so that I was running on feel and not worrying about pace as pace wasn't mentioned in the plan.;) I needed to judge it for myself and try getting the pacing right so that I'd manage the 10 reps..the only thing I failed to do was jog all the 1min easy...it started off standing, taking a drink and then jogging for the first 2/3, then it was walk 10 sec jog, walk 20 sec jog for the next 3/4....last 3 I had to walk about 25 sec before I could get jogging again but I did't mind as it was hot and there's not a whiff of a breeze.

    anyway
    2m easy - 9.56/147, 9.27/160
    10 x hard reps -
7.28/171, (obviously erring ont he side of caution;))
    6.42/177
    6.50/179,
    6.39/181,
    6.18/182,
    6.19/181,
    6.33/181,
    6.37/183,
    6.34/183,
    6.24/184,

    2.44m easy 9.31/171, 9.28/172, 9.55/176(.44)

    Total: 6.80m in 1:03:24 @ 9.20/168.
Delighted that's done and now I can relax for the day!!:D:D

no request for runs by little miss when I got home today thankfully,...... I was a ball of dripping sweat!!:p

    Thursday 11 July
    plan: 3m Recovery run
i had to do this when i got home from a meeting on Thursday evening so it was lovely and cool heading out at 9.40. I literally had 30 mins as OH had to go out so 1.5m over the hills and back...lovely and relaxed and not as cool as i thought it would be..sweating buckets!!! The HR would have been lower if it were not for the hills!!

    Total 3.00 in 31.12 @ 10.24/151

    Friday 12 July
    Plan 5m easy
I spent a very enjoyable day in Tayto Park with the kids and was looking forward to a cool 5m trot only to discover OH had got a call out to work so he wasn't at home to mind kids. He wasn't back until after dark so unplanned rest day!!

    Saturday 13th July
    Plan: 5m Tempo with 3m @ HMP(8.15ish)
Spent the day in Edenderry at the Leinster Fleadh Ceol where my 10yr was playing. She did great but didn't place in the top three!! new experience for her so she was happy with her performance!

Headed out for this run just after 8.30 and it was still very warm. i had eaten dinner on way home at 5ish and wanted to give it decent time to digest .
mile 1 nice and easy, mile 2 got up to my desired pace and tried to hold it, mile 3 discovered i was going too fast and pulled it back a bit, mile 4 fighting to keep dinner in...starting to struggle, i was going too fast so i relaxed the body, lengthened the stride and just went with the flow, mile 5 nice and relaxed!! I enjoyed this run.
    9.43/149, 8.13/168, 8.10/173, 8.05/176, 9.05/168,

    Sunday 14th July
    Plan:13m easy

Up bright and early for this one and headed to the Phoenix Park to meet up with LizzyC for our run. I was looking forward to the company as it makes the miles disappear without realising it.

At 8.30 I meet Liz to discover she done 4m already as she had to get home earlier that planned so we did 10m together and then she headed off and i went to finishe my 3mile which turned into 3.6 so i had to round it up and ended up at 14.1o. It was alovely morning for running as the intense heat hadn't arrrived and the sun was hiding behind the clouds. We meet the lovely Sunflower Ro and she joined up for a few miles and a chat but we had to let her off as she was going at a much faster pace that us!!!
    10.51/135, 9.54/155, 10.02/155, 9.52/151, 9.55/148, 9.50/150, 9.46/154, 9.47/161(kyber), 9.49/152, 9.49/157, 9.33/153, 9.49/164, 9.45/151, 9.34/158, 10.03/160(.10)
    Total 14.10 in 2.19 @9.53/153

I popped into work and had a quick shower and i was back home by 12.30 delighted to have it finished for the day and i relaxed for the rest of the day, reading, watching Meath getting ass kicked and then a bit of shopping for the hols!!!

    Monday 15th July - Rest Day:D
    RHR = 49
I'm going to keep an eye on this and see how it changes over time and try to keep runs is proper zones!!

    Tuesday 16th July
RHR - 53 - very tired this morning and lack of wind the last 2 days has the sinus building up again. Kids are in bits with hayfever at the min again, so heres hoping the sun comes out again and we can get rid of the muggy heat!!

    Plan - 5m easy

and 5m easy was just what it was but should have been slower!! This nearly didn't get done but at 9.10pm last night i slipped into my hi-viz and out the road i went. It was still very muggy but there was a very slight breeze in places that did its job and i ended up delighted to get it done.

    Plan 6m @ MP 14m easy

the plan was for 6m @ MP but i had the chance of getting the long run of the week done in company so i grabbed the chance and at 7.15 this morning I met LizzyC in the Phoenix park and we set off to get this done.

We were sweating buckets in no time and the plan was 10m loop, back to car for water and then on again. at 8m i was really struggling, legs and breathing were fine i was just wacked and had no energy and if i got back to my water i think i wouldn't have got out again so we went to Ordinance survey and got water from tap there and headed off again, but water didnt quench my thirst so we headed back again and the kind man working there gave me a cup and i got lots of water into me and over my face and off again. This time i got my mojo back and we managed to finish in one piece.

Turned into 15m run but i'm so happy to have it over and done with and not facing into it on my own on Sunday. and as always having company make the distance fly by unknown to me so thank you LizzyC for the company!!!:D

    Long overdue update!!:D

    Tuesday 23 July

5m easy – can’t remember details but it was run in park, I think!!!

    Total 5.04 @ 9.22

    Wednesday 24th July
Went to the Physio as legs were very tight in calves and hamstrings in both legs and she started a new treatment on me as my pelvis is in poor shape and this is leading to the problems with my legs.

The treatment is called Myofascial Release and she will be doing it every 10 days until I am sorted…. Myofascial Release is used to equalise muscle tension throughout the body. Unequal muscle tension can compress nerves and muscles causing pain. Progress is measured by a decrease in the patient's pain and by an improvement in overall posture.
Myofascial Release is stretching of the fascia. Fascia is a thin tissue that covers all the organs of the body. This tissue covers every muscle and every fibre within each muscle. All muscle stretching, then, is actually stretching of the fascia and the muscle, the myofascial unit. When muscle fibres are injured, the fibres and the fascia which surrounds it become short and tight. This uneven stress can be transmitted through the fascia to other parts of the body, causing pain in areas you often wouldn't expect. Myofascial Release treats these symptoms by releasing the uneven tightness in injured fascia.

It’s a very strange feeling and I can feel sensations moving up and down my legs and feet and through my pelvis and glutes. The physio feels it through heat in her hands.

The first evening I was wrecked and for the next few days I had no energy at all, reckon the physio took if all out of me!!!

    Friday 26th July
I headed off into beautiful sunshine at 6.45pm for a planned easy 12m but within 1m the rain started to come down very heavy. the sun disapperared and the sky got very dark. The road was flooded in no time and i was splashing about in huge big puddles. I perservered for another 1.5 miles but alas i had to abandon this run as the rain was so heavy that it got too dark to be out on the road and the thunder and lightening unsettled me. My back was giving me a bit of trouble and I had no energy. First time I have abandoned a run!!

    Then next week

    Tuesday 30th July
Headed off in lovely sunny Albuferia for a run. 9.30 am and already 28 degrees…..i managed to do 3m but it felt like I had run 15m, plenty of hills and no breeze saw me giving up when I got back near apt instead of going for a few more. That evening I was wrecked.
    Total 3m @ 9.58/163

    Wed 31 July
The last day for running this month but seeing as I was so wrecked after yesterdays run and I knew I’d be having a late night (as my Brother was getting married that day) I decided to have a rest day!!!

Total for the month of July 119.97m:D

    Thursday 1st Aug
The morning after the night before and I was in pretty good shape:cool: so headed off at 9.15 hoping to make a better stab at a decent run, however it was not to be. :(4.18m felt like 20 and I found more hills!!!! I was literally “dripping” when I returned from this run!! But delighted I managed a run at all.
    Total 4.18 @ 10.16

    Saturday 3rd Aug
Headed off again at 9.30 ish but thankfully there was a breeze to keep me a bit cooler and I found a flatter route, still felt like I had run about 15 miles. There was a 1km straight stretch so I did a handful of strides to stretch out the legs…

Missed my run on Tuesday as wrecked from travelling home night before and had no time and no inclination to fit it in for some reason!!
Physio on Wednesday for my next session of Myofascial Release and on Thursday instead of getting to work I had to head back to bed….i felt like I had been hit my a bus and this stayed with me until Saturday evening when I started to feel normal again!! This is an intense reaction to the treatment and physio has seen it before with one or two people.
So no running at all this week…..

    Monday 12th Aug
I was determines to get back into the training and try and fight the tiredness.
Lunchtime run, no watch just nice and easy on my 4.2m route and I was feeling ok!!! I have a new set of exercises to do from the physio to help strengthen the back and I did these lying on the grass after the run. Lovely sunny day so no problems
Total 4.2m no watch so no time

    Wednesday 14th Aug - AM

    Total 4.10 @ 10.01

    Thursday 15th Aug
    Plan was 60 mins easy
LizzyC was doing 20m so I joined her at mile 10 to keep her company for a few miles, nice easy run. Legs tired at the end, but I felt like I could keep running. I was very jealous of her having completed her first 20m of DCM 2013 training!!!
    Total 8.07m @ 9.52

    Friday 16th Aug
Met up again with LizzyC and as she had 5m recovery and I had 40 mine easy we kept it nice and easy for the run, Lizzy had 1m doen before I joined her and then we settled into a lovely easy pace.
    Total 4.20 @ 10.24

    Saturday 17th Aug
should have been recovery, felt nice and slow and the few hills loosened out the legs....physio apt and she can see a big improvement in posture so the treatment is working!!! The legs are still a bit tight but not getting any worse!! I got new runners to accommodate my insole that I haven’t been wearing for a few weeks as I was getting blisters as my current runners are too narrow. So this was done in my new Brooks Dyad and my insoles. Runners feel clumpy but reckon I’ll get use to them!!

    and the next.....

    Wednesday 21st Aug
No run Tuesday due to mix up in my domestic arrangements and i had no one to mind the kids.
Headed off at lunchtime in my new Brooks Dyad runners with my custom insoles in and my feet and legs felt very heavy. I was shuffling along like an auld wan!! I forgot to bring the original insoles for the runners so did the whole run in the custom made insoles. I ended up with a blister on my foot and a sore left calf. Otherwise the run was ok, my breathing was a bit heavy for the pace but not uncomfortable, putting it down to the heat!!
    Total 5.20 @ 9.45

    Thursday 22nd August
    Plan 2m warm up, 8 * 60 sec hills 2m cooldown
Heading away for the weekend and not sure if I'll have access to a hill so swapped hills from Sat to today.
I wore the new runners here but without the insoles as legs were too tight. Ran to Kyber (2.5m) and did them there. They were fine, except the calf was sore on the recoveries downhill, which were 1min walking 1m jogging!!! After the last hill I went back down the Kyber so that my warm-up and cool down would be the same distance and after the first mile in the cool down I was wrecked and the calf was sore so I took a 2 min walk break. I haven’t had a walking break in years but putting git down to the heat, no water and the sore leg. Once I got going again I was fine!! Very warm out today too so I was sweating buckets!!

    Plan 50 mins easy
Headed off to do this before I hit the road to Galway, and it started off nice and slow as legs were heavy and calf sore but things relaxed and fell into place and I ran at a comfortable pace without looking at the watch. It got faster each mile but i didn't realise it. Rain came to cool me down for the last few miles!! I enjoyed this run and would have loved to do a few more miles

so I headed off on unfamiliar roads but found a lovely quite country road then into forest and then out the sea cliff on lose shingle path!! Plan 2.15hr easy
I’m lucky that my cousin who I was staying with is a runner (albeit out injured at the min) so knew I had to get the run in and she looked after the kids while I headed off in the sunshine

This run was done mostly in Rinville Park just outside Oranmore using the forest, park (lovely hills too) and the sea cliff to make it up without having to go out on the roads. Some of the running was slow going as the path was loose shingles and the forest had plenty of tree roots.

Overall the run was fine, legs in a heap when i finished but i could have kept going. When I stopped for toilet break or to refill bottle of water I was limping while I got going again and after the run both my legs were very sore.

I ended up with compression sleeves on both legs all day (and night)Sunday, Monday and Tue.
Physio on Wednesday and both my legs are in a terrible mess. She gave both legs a good rub out and then dryneedled my left calf. And as this was the first time for my left leg, recovery was slow. I was limping until Saturday while the muscle repaired itself!!

    Another week with no running.

Total miles for August 78.72 not what it should be!!

    Monday 2nd September
Headed out tentetively at lunchtime to test out the legs and left calf is still tight. It took a while to ease out and then it was fine for a while, sore again and this continued for the 5m. I had no watch but according to Runtastic on my phone i did 1.50 miles in 49 mins:eek: gps signal was weak. thankfuly i know it was a 5m loop and i havn't gone back that far!!!

Pilates resumes tonight and that should help with all the strengthening my body needs.

After chatting with my Phsyio and thinking about it i have finally made the decision not to do DCM this year. I hate the thoughts of not doing it for some reason but i have to be sensible and think of the bigger picture. I will continue to run and log here and hopefully i'll be back better and stronger than ever!!!;)

I wasn't ready to log back in until i had made my final decision, so now i have to spend the rest of this week catching up on everyones log and see how the Novices are getting on over in the Mentored log!!

Sorry to hear about your woes, Anne, but you've probably made the right decision - hard as that may have been! No point in putting yourself in danger of (more) serious injuries. There will be other marathons...
Best of luck with the recovery.

So, so, so sorry to hear that you won't be doing DCM, but as everyone else has indicated, it's probably the right decision.

Oh, and I agree with Emer - don't encourage digger and his potty mouth! ;)

So the big comeback didn't last long.:( After the run on Monday and Pilates on Monday night, my legs were banjaxed on Tue, Wed & Thur. Friday they were much improved but no time for a run so Sat morning before Physio I went for a trot.
3.51m @ 9.24, the pace was fine but the legs were sore at the start, eased out but from 3m were sore again......
Physio has instructed no running for a while to see if we can get everything sorted. Swimming or the bike...and seeing as i'm not really a swimmer the bike I got ahem:o last December has to be put to use.....
So this evening I dragged my poor 10 yr daughter out for a cycle .... to help her get match fit as she is playing football on 3 different football teams (well that was my excuse and i'm sticking to it) and we decided to do 10 k as it was out first time out, but like with the running I added a bit and we managed 14km!!! I know it wasn't a huge distance but it'll do for now and at least i'm not terrified of the bike anymore:o and I actually enjoyed it after I got past the first downhill we start on..... so the runners are having a rest...but as soon as I can i'll be back running and im determined to get my 1000m done before the end of the year!!!

Sounds like a bit of a transition over to Triathlon with all that swimming and cycling. We might be seeing you soon in pastures new:D.

Hope that injury heals up soon Anne

Not a hope Dave,......i can't swim very well and i'm terrified on the bike...the sooner im back running the safer the roads will be!!! Its the kids who do all the swimming(lessons), im at the pool twice a week with them and the last time i was in the pool my 10yr told me just how bad my "swimming" was!!!

Maybe swimming improver lessons are on the cards for you Anne ;)
I know how you feel about the cycling and the swimming.
I'm very iffy about the traffic on Dublin roads never mind the country windy roads and the only way I would swim in a Triathlon would be to do a sprint and swim in a pool. I wouldn't trust my swimming in the sea where you can't predict how strong the current will get.

Sorry to read you're update Anne, but there'll be plenty more races and goals to aim for. Once you are fully recovered from injuries you'll be back on track in no time :)

I hope this sorts you, I'm sure you'll become a whizz on the bike  You can spin over to me any time take a dip in the sea while you're here- you'll be stormin the tri scene in no time!

Madon @ you'll never ever get me into the sea...i'm terrified of water!!!

Yes swimming lessons are on the cards but not for the reasons you lot are thinking!!! :p I started lesson as a complete beginner a while back and after 12 mths i could swim lengths but not gracefully:eek:. 3rd pregnancy put a halt to the lessons and shamefully that was 5 yrs ago and i still haven't returned, despite being at the swimming pool weekly. My eldest is a great swimmer (and laughs at my attemps at swimming:rolleyes:), the "younglad" is doing really well and the Little Miss has recently started and after a slow beginning she is finding her feet legs and is coming along well!!

Anyway, yesterday i was told I'M ALLOWED BACK RUNNING:D:D and so at lunch time today in the beautiful sunshine i did a lovely 3.05m run at a lovely even pace without any issues!! Happy days!!! So i'm allowed slowly build back up and take it from there!!!
    9.53, 9.50, 9.39 and i wanted to keep going!!!

    Thursday 19th Sept
no after effects from the lunchtime run so later that evening i went for a spin on the bike to stretch out the legs
6.5m not a lot but enough

    Saturday 21th Sept
first off i went for 20k cycle and then i went for a short run.
Enjoyed this run and i've returned to my hilly route as i think i had been running on flat courses too much. i wasn't paying any attention to the pace but think because the cycle had warmed up the legs there was no bother with the pace.
    Total 3.52m @9.05/170

    Sunday 22nd Sept
Evening run while the dinner was cooking to stretch out the legs. Beautiful evening and great to be running in shorts & vest and sweating buckets 3rd week in Sept!!;)

    And so .......

.... training for the past 2 months has been pretty hit and miss. I’ve had a viral infection in my system which means that energy levels were at an all time low and runs have been quite short and recovery has taken a day or two afterwards. Furthest run has been 10k and took me a few days to recover from. But Thankfully I’m starting to feel less shattered and starting to recover a bit faster from the runs. HR is quite high but hopefully that will come down as the runs get more frequent. RHR was up by almost 10 beats but is now at about 6 higher that july/August figures.

Bloods have come back all clear so just the virus that’s causing the problems. I am continuing my treatment every 10 days with the Physio and my back and legs are improving so heres hoping this is the start of the comeback….again!!!!

Plan is easy running for the next 2 months and regular running to get back into the habit and to get to the 1000m for the year, I might even manage to get to near last years total 1101m or something like that!!!!

So a quick overview of the last months running......

    Tuesday 1st October - 3.31m @ 9.56/160

    Thursday 3rd October – 4.35m @ 9.18/166

    Sunday 6th October – 6.13m @ 9.47/165

    Tuesday 8th October - 3.20m @ 9.33/161

    Wednesday 10th October - 4.10 m @ 9.44/161

    Tuesday 15th October - 4.10 @ 9.16/166

Thursday 17th October – 4.10 @ 8.35/172 (I decided to give the legs a shake out. a small progression run)

    Thur 24th October – 5.03 @10.09

    Sun 27th October 5.20 @ 9.45/168

    Tuesday 29th October – 4.20 @ 9.20/169

    Wednesday 30th October – 4.31 @ 9.54/154

    Friday 1st November 4.25 @ 10.26/161
Recovery run this morning with LizzyC who had a great run on Monday in the marathon with a PB of 6 mins to finish in 3.51.54...(i should have been alongside her!!!!!):(

    Totals:eek:
    WTD: 4.25m
    MTD: 48.03m(Oct) Nov 4.25m
    YTD: 951.04m

EDIT: Shouting from the sidelines in the Phoenix Park at the Marathon on Monday has really got me wanting to get back out there at the running and i was delighted to see so many people got what they wished and trained hard for and for those that didn't , it will come when the body is ready for it!!)
