not much running to report here, 1 step forward, 2 steps back......:(
i'm averaging about 2 short runs a week, but im hoping to build back up for the new year and then try to keep it constant. November had a total of 4 runs......

Back still giving me problems, I get it sorted and then a week or so later its back to square one!! The problem is my pelvis, which is misaligned and this is leading to pain in my sacrum and legs (hams & Calves). Im not overloading the legs as im not doing enough running so the pain is definitely resulting from pelvis/sacrum problems. Im attending the physio evey 10 days or so and she's doing great work but it feels like its getting worse before it gets better!!

The virus i had has finally left my system and im building back up my strength & energy...slowly!!!
Im still doing weekly Pilates classes and these are helping me keep muscles flexible & stretched!!!

Oh im such a bundle of joy these days!!!:(

Happy Christmas to everyone. I hope you all had a lovely time.

The challenge of reaching 1000m with 2 days left 1 have a few miles still to go (4.16m to be exact) but will hopefully will get there with 1 or 2 miles over!!

    20th Dec - 3.2 slow miles
21 Dec - 4.2 miles, decided to run the last mile a bit faster..did 9.15pace an I nearly got sick after it so decided slow is better for now!!!

    23rd Dec - 4.2 slow miles...
24th Dec - 4 sneaky mile on treadmill

27th Dec - 3.0m slow mile snuck in before youngest 5th Birthday party
plan is 3 easy mile tomorrow and Tuesday!!!

and so the sun was shining and its a beautiful day so instead of the planned 3 miles I did 5.1m just in case something happens and I don't get out tomorrow.

    Total for the year...so far
    1000.94m hurray!!!

so 2013 didn't turn out quite like I had planned

    A few positives

I got PBs in 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon so not the worst year, but the last 4 mths were a disaster with no constructive running done since end of August. Here’s hoping to a smoother year next year

March - HM PB in Bohermeen - 1.48.45
April - Completing London Virgin Marathon, as 2nd fastest marathon to date - 4.00
    June - 5k PB Bohermeen - 23.28
    June - 10k Dunshaughlin - 49.59

So I have plenty to work on but the plan is to get back to consistent running miles and build back up...think that was the plan a few times last year!!!
Anyway maybe I should just concentrate on running and forget times for now....The back is behaving at the moment so heres' hoping things are on the up...I'm still at weekly Pilates and back to that next week!!!

    Happy New Year Everyone

New year, New clean sheet..... biggrin.png
so I really wanted to go out for this run which I really enjoyed. It was getting dark and its a misty evening so I just managed the 3.5 but they were faster than I have run in a while and they were comfortable...I've a blister from yesterday on the side of my foot, but different runners and it only hurt for last mile.....

    Thur 2nd Jan 2014

I was planning a short recovery run today but didn't get out before darkness descended so off to the treadmill I went.
But after the first mile at 9.44 I thought I'd go mad so I upped the pace an did a few miles as the legs were feeling good...I kept adding on until the treadmill stopped automatically at 59.59 and with 6.59 m completed I was happy with that.
So it was an unplanned tempo run but it felt great.
Body was perfect while running but as soon as I stopped it started complaining!!! So i'll definitely take a rest day tomorrow....don't want to overdo it afterall...

Ooooo.....a trainer?? A bike?? Sounds like you might be thinking about talking a walk on the dark side. ;) Welcome back! Delighted you're back in the swing...we've all missed your energy and enthusiasm! :)

DD, i can't see a walk to the dark side as i don't think i could handle cycling in a crowd...i like to see where im going!!! If i just cycle as cross training and an alternative to get some exercise that will do me!!!

The comeback took a bit of a wobble last week as with back to school and work and the kids at dancing, swimming, soccer and all that goes with having 3 thankfully active kids, time was of the essence and there just wasn't enough to go round.:o

Anywaythe turbo was dismantled to accommodate a birthday party so that has to be sorted before I forget i got it.

Runs last week consisted of 3 runs all on the treadmill at ungodly hours!:o

So here we go again....I've had a few comebacks over the past 8 months but none of them mounted to much and I'm getting sick of myself making excuses.

I had a lot going on with the kids and the youngest hasn't settled into school so I've had bigger things stressing me out. She's still unsettled but is receiving therapies at last..... a full year after I went looking for help.... but don't get me started on the Public health system!!!! Anyway we have her diagnosis now so we can move forward. So my 2 youngest have "hidden disabilities" and there's plenty of running(not on the feet kind) from apt to apt with them.

Anyway its now time for me to start looking after myself again and get back running, even just for my own stress levels!!! the viral issue I had last year has seem to gone but it took my mojo with it so slowly I hope to build it back up!!

I have publicly declared (on FB) that I am running the Simon Cumbers Memorial 6K run in Navan on May 30th to make me commit, so little steps and we'll see where we go from there!!

Wendesday 30 April - 5k nice and slow!!!!

Thankfully things have been going ok… I am getting back into the habit of running. 2 runs this week were at lunch with a workmate so that’s a great incentive
Healthy eating is going to plan so I hope to make a bit of a dent in this extra stone I’m carrying(on top of the extra half I already had) but life is too short to worry too much about that!!!

    Tuesday May 6th
5m route around the trails in the Phoenix park in about 50 mins – I enjoy this as it’s a while since I went on the trails and as I was chatting the 5m flew by..

    Wednesday May 7th
Didn’t get out at lunch but when I got home my 5 yr old was a bit bothered and exercise is good for her so we went for a trot. She set the pace and refused to turn at our half mile marker and wanted to go a bit more. Ended up 1.5m @11.43 which is great for a little one as there are a few nice hills on the route. She slept like a log and woke up with a smile on her face even thought she had to go to school!!! :)
I went back out and did my 3m loop. When I got to 3 of the hills I ran a bit faster up them and it was tough, plenty to work on. One of the hills is covered in a canopy of trees so the pace doesn’t record right but the other 2 hills were at 8.40 & 8.15 so happy with that and plenty of work to do over the summer.
    Total 4.66m

    Thursday May 8th
Had arranged to go for run again with same colleague as Tuesday and she rang to see if I was going in the rain. This was a great test of my commitment as I had turned into a fair weather runner, so off we went.
Rain stopped as we went out and stayed away so happy days. We did 3 m which turned into a bit of a tempo run but felt so good!!!

So i haven't updated in a bit but i have been trying to keep things ticking over. Just about but hoping it wil go from strength to strength!!!

    Wednesday 14th May
Lunchtime run with 2 girls from work. One of the girls set the pace and we were happy to go at her pace as she’s trying to get back into it too.
11.0/152, 11.19/164, 10.50/163, 10.36/163, 10.19/167 Heart rate is quite high seeing as the pace was so slow!! But this pace won’t do me any harm at all. It’s easier to run slower in company!!! We were on the trails in the Park too so helped to keep it slow
    Total 5.00 in 54.06 @10.49/161
Busy week with First Communion for my young man so didn't get out again this week!! He was having a rough week so spent the time with him!!

    Tuesday 20th May
Lunchtime easy run, no splits as I had no watch, running partner had a basic stop watch. Very heavy and warm. Struggled with first half, felt great for second half. Enjoyed this run!!
    Total 5.50m in 52.26

    Wednesday 21st May
While the kids were at footie training I flew out the road and back. Faster that it should have been but just went with it!! If I had gone when we arrived instead of yapping it might have been longer and slower!!!
    Another lovely hot sunny evening!!

    Tuesday 27th May
Did a 1 mile trot with little miss before I got to go for my own run. Nice warm up run for me. We had the dog with us and shes getting old and had to have a rest now and again. So after that I headed out for this one!!! Nothing springs to mine about this run!!!

A beautiful warm day with the sun beaming down on us!! I set off with 2 girls from work with the intention of trying to put in one fast mile to see how I’m fixed!! After ½ m I pushed on as they were going a little too slow for me today!!

Friday 30th May – Simon Cumbers 10th Anniversary 6k Run
I was very nervous going into this. It’s 11 months since my last race and 8 mths since I did proper training. The past month I was just trying to get back into the habit of running and that didn’t even go to plan. So I was about to find out how much fitness I had truly lost!! Going on how I was feeling in training I felt that 32min – 34mins was where my current fitness capabilities lay. 34 was going to be worst case scenario and 32 was the best I was hoping for!!! I half heartedly warmed up but didn’t want to overdo it so headed for the line
Mile 1 – I was very conscious of not going off too fast as I have done in previous races and the first time I looked at the watch I though I was going about 9.30 but turned out to be 8 min miles so I pulled back a bit and settled into the run. As I got my rhythm going I started to pass people that had gone off to fast 8.36 good just where I thought I would be, so just needed to hold on to this pace.
Mile 2 – there’s a girl hanging off my shoulder and she’s starting to annoy me so I picked up the pace, she follows me for about 100m but then backs off. I’m starting to enjoy this, I’m continuing to pass people and noone has passed me since the about ½ mile into race so that’s good for the confidence. 8.32 so moving in the right direction and I need to keep this pace going!!
Mile 3 – I am comfortable and feel that I can push on a little but still trying to be conservative, still passing people. My Mam, brother, sister, nieces and my youngest are at the 3m mark to give a shout out and plenty of encouragement. By the end of mile 3 its starting to get tough and my breathing is getting heavy!!! 8.17
As I move into the last part of the race I pick up the pace slightly. I know the route and I know what’s left. I heading back for the track for the last 100m and I am going as fast as I can, I can’t pick it up anymore and I cross the line in 31.26. (last .72 @ 8.08) I am very happy with how it went, better than I hoped and yet a tiny voice is saying you could have gone faster!! I don’t think if I went out fast that I would have been able to hold on to the pace so overall I’m thrilled with it. Last time I did this was 2012 and I did it in 29.20 so 2 mins off is quite a way, but I will hack my way back into fitness and not worry (too much) about time. There’s 4 people I would usually finish ahead of and they all finished ahead of me so I have to get my fitness back!!!
    Total for the day 4.77m
Great to catch up with Barry (Beeduybe)& Peter (Pistol)the only other 2 Boardies I saw there!!!

    June 2014!!
Sunday 1st June – I was very nearly not going out for this as I had a sore throat but thought I needed to stretch the legs. The overall aim was to keep this at around 10.30 and to try keep it LST pace even though it was 6m. I’m trying to get into the thought process of Sundays longer and slower!! 10.44, 10.19, 10.30, 10.29, 10.18, 10.19
    Total 6.01 in 1hr 2mins @10.27

Monday 2nd June - Cross training -35 mins walking. – legs were in bits after it!!!
I didn’t get out Tue – Sat as throat developed into a horrible dose with ears and airways affected too so no mood or energy for running. Thisis the cycle that has been happening for the past 5/6 months. I get 3 - 4 weeks running and then I get some sort of a dose which keeps me off the roads for a week!!! I think my body is still giving out to me!!!

Sunday 8th June – 5 slow miles followed by 2 faster miles – Headed out the door in glorious sunshine, came home saturated to the bone as it rained for 50 mins of the hr I was out and then the sun came out literally as I was going back up the drive of the house and shone for the rest of the day!!!
After resting for the earlier part of the week, I decided 10 min miles were better than 10.30 for today only!!! Back to Sunday slow next week.
    10.03/158, 9.51/166, 9.59/164, 9.45/168, 9.56/173, 9.00/180, 9.00/184

The rest of the evening was spent with 11 of our U12 girls football team who were representing Meath Community Games V Longford Champions in our local football pitch. Great display by our team to come away with a deserved win with a score line of 9.12 – 1.02. Leinster Rd 2 here we come!!

    Remember Me!!!:o
So time to catch up and update the log before it disappears into the abyss
I’m getting a bit more consistent but still not back to full training. The pace is SLOW but better slow than no running and I know it will gradually pick up and if not, so what!!! I think my future racing days are far away on the horizon!!!

    June 14th - 5.04m@10.03
June 16th - 8.01m @10.12 stumbled over a tree root on one of the trails in the Phoenix park on this run and jarred my back, it started giving me grief later in the day

June 18th – 4.10m@10.05 – My back was a bit sore during the day but not too bad so I decided to chance a run. It wasn’t sore during this run but when I finished, the pain was really bad and I couldn’t catch my breath properly.

Had to take a few days off with my back.
June 23rd - Tried a slow run before I trained the girls football but had to pack it in after 1.5m, back still giving me hassle. – 1.5m@ 10.59

Another week before the back gave me enough relief to try a run again

July 1st – 3.10 slow miles @ 10.53, back seems to be ok

July 2nd – 5.20m @ 10.17, Phoenix Park at lunchtime. Found this run very tough

July 3rd – 3.10m @ 9.10 Tempo run  around the football pitch while the kids were training. Enjoyed this!!

    July 5th – 5.01 @ 10.17

    Hurray 4 runs in 1 week!!!!!:D

    July 10th – 5.10 @10.11 – very warm lunchtime run!!

July 11th – 5.20 @ 9.54 – this included 4 x 800 in Polo grounds(very happy with paces of 8.06, 8.05, 8.06, 8.05) very hot & sunny and boy was i sweating when this was done. Tough but felt good!! I’m beginning to feel like I’m making progress!!!:)

    July 12th – 3.50m@ 9.57 – easy lunch time run.

July 13th – 10.11m @ 9.56 – Met up with LizzyC to do this in the park so that it would not be such a big issue for me to do this, my first “longrun” in ages!! Liz kept me going but i did have to stop at end of mile 7 after doing some hills to catch my breath!!! But so so happy to get it done and legs were fine after it!!!

Sunday Evening - Just to prove to myself how I am getting back to fitness, I did 10m on the bike , 3.5 with the kids & then 6.5 m on my own to get it up to a decent amount!!! Boy was my bum was sore after it:eek:!!!!

July 15th – 3.04 @ 9.48 evening run on the hills at home to try strengthen the legs.

    July 16th – 6.10 @ 9.45 another evening run at home

July 18th - 6.73m @ 10.07, lunchtime run in park and it was very warm. Suppose to be 6m but slightly misjudged it!!

July 19th – 12.07m @ 10.05 – LizzyC travelled to the scticks for this one and we got a few hills into the run...boy was i feeling it by the end!!!We had to stop off into house at 9 miles to get blister plasters for both my feet. Pace seems to have dropped radically after that, but it was on more hills!! Trilled to get the numbers up a bit!!!

Hip was a bit sore after the long run Sat, and a long drive to Westport didn’t help, so took a rest day Sunday

July 22nd- 3.01m @ 9.20 A run on the old railway path in Westport, 1.5m each way - lovely!!! Incline all the way back towards town end!! Very warm morning with no sun and no breeze made this a tough enough run!!!

July 24th – 7.11 @ 9.52 Another hot & muggy day in Westport but no sunshine!! This was a very sweaty run, so much so that my little niece thought I had stuck my head in a bucket of water as my hair was dripping so much when i got back!!!

July 27th – 13.10m @ 10.10. This was my toughest run for a long long time. I just had no energy and although I was running by feel, the pace just got slower and slower.(eating crap and drinking all week in Westport didn’t help) I stopped for about 2 mins at the turnaround at 6.50m, stretched my legs and then got moving again and it was so much better on the way back!! My last mile was the fastest!!

July 28th – Hip was sore again after the long run and legs were a bit tight so I decided to dust off the bike (again) and went for a spin. 8 hilly miles have left legs & hip in great order!!!

I know tough runs will only make you stronger, but the last run has confirmed that my fitness is still too far away to even attempt to run a marathon this year. So I have decided Dublin Marathon is off the cards for me this year and I am switching to an 8 week half marathon plan for the half in the race series in Sept. I have entered the 10m & half to keep me motivated and working towards a goal!! And then we’ll see what happens!!
So week 1 of Half Marathon plan started yesterday... with a rest day!!:D

Sat 13th SeptemberEasy Run - very creaky & slow, just gettingthe muscles & joints oiled!! 4m in 40.11 @ 10.03

Sunday 14th Sept, I knew if i couldn’t manage a half decentlong run there was no point doing Dublin half marathon, slow & steady, feltok on this run, except had to ring for Blister plasters for a bad blister on myleft foot...as usual!!

    Sat 20th Dublin Half Marathon
Considering the training i had done, the plan was to beat my2010 first ever Half time of 2.03 and i have to say i thought this wasdoubtful. I met the wonderful 2 hrspacers Eamon & Matt and have a quick chat with eack. Didn’t think i would see them again. I headed back a little behind them and off wewent! The plan was to just try keep them in my vision but within 200m they weregone a good bit ahead, so i put the head down and concentrated on keeping thepace steady( i have a bit of a habit of going off too fast). The race is a bit of a blur but i was awarethat the 2 hr pacers were up ahead but not out of sight. Took my first gel at about 6mile and istarted to feel comfortable, pace was improving a bit so i just went on feelbut kept an eye on the watch. Mile 9 icaught the lads and had a quick chat, i was flying at this stage but wanted tokeep it going before i crashed and burned which was inevitable!! Lads promisedto pick me up later if i had difficulty!! Mile 12 is where the wheels cameoff. My lack of training showed itselfhere and i was having difficulty physically lifting my feet as we climbed formile 12, i had taken another gel at mile 10, and i was waiting for it to kickin, mile 13 was slower again and i was in complete agony with pains shooting upthe front of my shins, i was very close to walking but just didn’t want to giveup yet.

The pacers caught up with me here and as promised they“carried me” to the line. The gelobviously kicked in as the last bit was a bit faster. I crossed the line in1:59:36 amazed and delighted!!

A long way of my PB of 1:48 but a half marathon completed ona shoestring training routine so it has given me back the want to get faster!!!

    9.22/158, 9.21/170. 9.07/171, 9.10/171, 9.08/168, 9.05/167,8.51/166, 8.53/166, 8.43/166, 8.46/164. 8.55/164, 9.29,164, 9.38,164, 8.06/164

Total 13.15m in 1:59:36 Chip time!!

Sun 21st Sept – Recovery Run - Feelin sore &creaky i did a Recovery run of 4m, in hindsight 3 would have been enough. Thelast mile was very tough!!
    4.04m in 42.12 @ 10.27

2 days off for recovery, Wed forgot my runners so turning into anotherrest day!!

    I'm back .... again!!!
My mojo had gone missing but thankfully i found a bit of it poking out from under one of the runners in my room and i grabbed it with both hands. Its slowing getting use to seeing day light again so i am plodding away slowly and building back up!!

I tend to have 2 -3 good weeks where i think I'm finally back and then something happens to get in the way and then there's no running for a bit until the next 2 -3 week streak.

In Feb, I started 10k training plan but only managed 3/4 weeks when i had to drop the plan and running for a few weeks. Started the plan again in March but didn't follow it fully. I was doing small runs and lots of walking so wasn't sitting on the couch doing nothing!!

On the May bank Holiday Monday i did the Boyne 10k and loved it!! Thunder, hailstones, lashing rain, sunshine all in one 10k race, where else would you get it except Ireland!! I managed a time of 52:49 which i was very pleased with. It was almost 2 years since my last 10k race which was my PB run of 49:58. Since that i have been ticking over and am currently managing 4 runs a week and hoping to go from strenght to strength.

Immediate plan is to continue regular running again and fitness building and do the Race series 5m & 10m, Athlone Flatline half marathon and then we'll see how the body is holding up!!:)
