With OpenAR-P, I have only managed to stream the station being watched. Get it working first on the same Lan with a Wired connection - then try wireless and then finally try from external once you have port forwarded your webif and 8001 ports.

If you plan to make it available from outside the Lan, out on the Internet, then I would strongly advise you consider changing the default ports in use and lock down with a userid and password.

All good here so far. Another question though :-D I am looking to setup DynDNS on the new Vodafone VDSL Router. (Question has been posed in the BB forum). I can connect to the WebIF by addressing the box via IP:port, as I have port mapped, but streaming is still not possible. Now, I know 8001 is the streaming port, but don't know if this needs to added to the DMZ, or indeed if I need to do anything with it!
    Any ideas or suggestions?

DMZ is not the way to do this, forward the web port to the local IP of the box. You should only need to open the port to connect to the web server. The stream starts from within your private lan and gets natted through your router therefore should not need the port forwarding. A firewall drops random packets from the internet (unless you port forward), but as these aren't random, they originate from inside, your router expects them returning.

I'm having bother mounting an ext3 hdd! I'll need to telnet in to mount it!

Is this how you do it?
Telnet into the box using Putty and run the following commands to format it to ext3 and mount it:
    mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1
    cd /autofs/sda1
    mkdir movie
It green screens on me when I try do it with the box.

My image was done on a HD 1080p with HDMI connection. So you will need to change to scart or a lower resolution.

Start up the box and once booted, press the following
    This worked! Thanks.:)

More questions:o The Terrestial Channels, Do I have to rescan to get them? At the minute I'm getting
    SID not found in PAT
I tried rescaning anyway with my frequency on 8mhz but it didn't find them. Any ideas?

Any ideas why Network Wizard Green Screens? I've only ever had a poxy midband connection so this stuff and the Vonets I'm using is "new" to me. HDMU wizard sorted it all for me.

If there is anybody here using one of the latest HDMU images can you tell me whether the problem still persists where the terrestrial channels sometimes go black after switching back from the sat channels? Usually experienced it after recording a sat channel.

Last night, I got so far. I can now view the WebIF by entering my dyndns:port address. Full use of the features etc., but can't yet stream. I feel it's to do with port 8001.
I even went as far as setting up an older version of VLC (0.86i) on the server and transcoding the amiko video feed from there, but then changing channels becomes a pain, & it's still not working outside the LAN.

It seems as if people talk about the features of the box yet there are no thorough guides, as routers differ and port forwarding is not the same on every device! Frustrating!!

Yes it is still annoyingly present ,you have to reboot the box to get the Terrestrial channels back.
Its not an issue on Hyperion 2 .

No ,I dont use permanenttimeshift on enigma 2 on any receiver as I find it unreliable .

Yeah I only ever used it on an old hdmu image, thought it might have become more stable since then. Not a deal breaker anyway, I've got everything else working perfectly so I'll leave well alone.

New HDMU images are very stable overall ,the terrestrial recording bug is about the only one I have noticed (and the HD judder but that's on all images )
There is a new option in the power menu where you can reboot to Spark.

Finally got one of the Amiko Alien 2+ boxes. Just been playing about with there checking that my satellite & terrestrial feed is ok.

Looking for some advice here really, any do's/don'ts etc - I plan to load championc's latest image, I assume I extract the two files and follow the steps in the How to upgrade to the E2 image guide supplied by Amiko linked here https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=8&cad=rja&ved=0CGEQFjAH&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amikostb.com%2Fdownload.php%3Fid%3D854&ei=n4MKUtnJLqqP7AbimIGQBw&usg=AFQjCNFSeSdIPtCRn657B-OuS1R3ax4dnw&bvm=bv.50500085,d.ZGU

I assume the steps are similar to load any image?
Is it possible to reset back to factory defaults and start from scratch if that new image is not what I need? Just wary that I may damage the receiver!

Is it just a matter of loading the image and away you go? Any feedback appreciated - thanks.

    Hey-O

I didn't look at that guide ^^^ but use Pogs (starts at post 2) and you won't go wrong. Read it a few times before you go at it. Edit: Manual Scan for Terrestials.

Do it with the latest HDMU (http://linuxsat-support.com/amiko-alien-2-images-e2-spark/) image like in the guide so you get use to how it works, this e2 upgrade plugin (you'll need to register to see it) is a better one as it lets you make backups of your enigma2 image when you're happy with it and other stuff.

Once you downgrade to spark AMIKO ALIEN2 1.2.51 E2 Boot Upgrade and install the plugin BEFORE you try and install an enigma image, you won't wreck the box. And you can just wipe one enigma with another enigma image when you want.

Edit2: You can't really wreck the Box. Their's rescue images.

    Does AR-P support midband connection?

Is everyone here now using champs img, without problems?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

Hmm, when I got to Spark it won't go online - I get a network error. I cannot select the option to downgrade to 1.2.51 E2 Boot Upgrade in Pog's guide?

I can access the net no problem from the box! Any ideas?

**//Edit - I should be able to download to 1.2.51 via USB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

I have downloaded the AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.51_E2_Boot_Upgrade from http://www.amikostb.com/?q=product&id=153 and I am expecting to extract only 2 files e2jffs2.img & ulimage, but when I extract the .rar from the above link I don't see these two files - I see about 9 files, AppPrg.tar, lib.tar, mImage.tar etc....

Any one help me out here!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 426 ✭✭FlexMcMurphy

The Spark Firmware (Image) comes in a .rar file. Unzip that using something like 7-Zip. Then you get a folder ending in _app. Put that folder on a fat32 formatted USB key and plug into back of Alien2.

When you go into MENU > SYSTEM > UPGRADE > UPGRADE FROM USB

you have to arrow down and navigate to the folder on the USB key where you saved the Spark firmware and point it to “version.xml”. Then press OK.

You will have an option to choose app or app+database. If you choose the later then any settings, channels you had setup will be lost.

Thanks Flex I had just found a pdf on the link I posted earlier with the steps you just outlined. Got it loaded.......

Ok - at the stage where I have copied Pog's version of satellites.xml over to the box to the etc/enigma folder.
When I go to set up Tuner B & Tuner C I don't see the optin for Astra 1N/2A....28.2E. The only options I have are All Satellites 1, All Satellites 2, All Satellites 3, All Satellites 4.

I also tried putting the .xml file into tuxbox folder (seen an earlier post in this thread) - but no luck again.

I opened the xml file and I can see Astra 28.2E there alright!

Also how do you set the time & date within this image? Set to January 1 2000?

I was wondering if anybody who is using a HDMU image is having issues where the box occasionally will not recognise the hard drive?

I have a 2TB main's powered hard drive that I connected up to the Amiko when I bought it in June. On occasion when I have gone to watch something (I have recorded) the box would not recognise the hard drive. It was like the hard drive had not been connected. I would turn the hard drive on and off and that would solve the problem.

In the last week however it has been happening every day, on each occasion I was watching something I had recorded and the picture would freeze and then go back to the channel I was watching prior to watching the recording. When I tried to re watch the recording the hard drive was not recognised.

Im hoping that it is just the hard drive and if so I will buy another one. I dont have spare one to try at the moment so I just wanted to check if anybody else is having this problem.

    Thanks.

is your drive fat32 or ext2/ext3 ? These boxes are happier with ext formatted drives.

Its formatted as EXT3. I formatted it in Spark before I booted into Enigma2.

Unless it is like my Dads box where the connection is quite loose. Try it in the front socket instead.

Otherwise, maybe it's because of HDMU :)

I'm stumped here!! I have no idea why the tuners won't pick up the Astra 28.2E satellite as per Pog's guide.

Can I just go ahead and load championc's image using the same steps as Pog's guide -
Grab Enigma championc's image and copy the Champions_OpenAR-P folder to the root of a usb key, the Champions_OpenAR-P folder should contain 2 single files.

Reboot the box with the USB inserted then go to plugins and enable the e2upgrade plugin. You will see a Start OSD option with the red button (you may need a reboot after enabling the plugin if you don't see it at first), select this and navigate to the Champions_OpenAR-P folder on your Usb and you will see an upgrade Champions_OpenAR-Poption on the red button.

Any help appreciated here folks - my Sky subscription is up soon!

    Have you done this?

Go to http://satellites-xml.eu/ and check the checkbox for just 'Astra 1N/2A/2F/Eutelsat 28A (28.2E)' to generate a satellites.xml file. FTP that to etc/tuxbox (Pogmothoins guide says /etc/enigma2 but it will work in either). You will need to reboot the box after for the satellites.xml to be read.

Ah - cheers again Flex. looks like it didn't like an xml file with a blast of satellite information, the tuner picked it up with the xml file with only Astra 28.2E.

    hi

Just got Amiko Alien 2 triple tuner and also a Ferguson Ariva 150 HD for a second room

I went for the Amiko because I wanted the greater recording flexibility

initially I find on the Ariva the Saorview has a full 7 day epg and sat now and next this was expected

but on the amiko saorview and sat only has now and next and if I show schedule i get that day on saorview but not full 7 day epg I am surprised the more expensive box has a poorer epg I know i can flash etc but have no idea how to do this is anyone doing flashs to E2 as a service I would gladly pay for the service

in Pogs guide he says to downgrade to a lower version of spark first but where do you get this

    thanks

What I understand & I am open to correction here (I just started out too) people downgrade to that version for stability. From this lower version you can flash whatever image you want.

To download the image go to this link http://www.amikostb.com/?q=product&id=153 and click on the Downloads tab.
Click on that & download AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.51_E2_Boot_Upgrade.rar
Download 7Zip from http://www.7-zip.org/ to extract the files from AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.51_E2_Boot_Upgrade.rar (about 9 files, copy them to the root directory of an FAT32 formatted usb key, preferably Kingston!)

Download the user manual howto_ENG_Upgrade_Spark_on_Amiko_Alien_Series_v130610a.pdf from the same Download page and follow the Steps Method 2 through USB.

While Pog's instructions are excellent, there are some bits and pieces missing - possibly outdated? For example the satellite.xml

I have come across other issues I haven't posted here, but give it a shot, I'll help out where I can and others here are very helpful.

Jeez, as I write this it seems like more work than it's worth :-)

    //Edit FAT32 formatted
