What I understand & I am open to correction here (I just started out too) people downgrade to that version for stability. From this lower version you can flash whatever image you want.

To download the image go to this link http://www.amikostb.com/?q=product&id=153 and click on the Downloads tab.
Click on that & download AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.51_E2_Boot_Upgrade.rar
Download 7Zip from http://www.7-zip.org/ to extract the files from AMIKO_ALIEN2_1.2.51_E2_Boot_Upgrade.rar (about 9 files, copy them to the root directory of an ext formatted usb key, preferably Kingston!)

Download the user manual howto_ENG_Upgrade_Spark_on_Amiko_Alien_Series_v130610a.pdf from the same Download page and follow the Steps Method 2 through USB.

While Pog's instructions are excellent, there are some bits and pieces missing - possibly outdated? For example the satellite.xml

I have come across other issues I haven't posted here, but give it a shot, I'll help out where I can and others here are very helpful.

Jeez, as I write this it seems like more work than it's worth :-)

    thanks for that

I downloaded the files as you linked where do i find the latest E2 image as the link in pogs post is outdated now

    thanks very much

when i get everything downloaded i may try to flash E2 but all i really want is a 7 day epg on both sat and terrestial and ability to record from epg

will latest spark upgrade give me this as its much easier for me to connect box to router and let it upgrade itself

    thanks

I edited my earlier post - USB key should be FAT32 formatted.

Spark is supported by Amiko & E2 image is open source so there are quite a few E2 versions going around.

Attempting to load championc's image at the minute!

Ok - I got championc's latest image loaded.

    Trying to get my head around changing channels (am I missing something?);

    1. I press the OK button & teh EPG comes up.
    2. I go to Favourites via blue button & I can select BBC's/ITV's etc
    3. When I select RTE I get a blank screen, but the EPG tells me what program should be on
    4. When I select Provider via the yellow button and select RTENL and select RTE1, I get error Message 4 Tune Failed
    5. Is it possible to get the EPG without all the Sky channels showing up? I have cancelled Sky so I would like an EPG that just displays the channels I should expect to see?

Navigating is very slow, serious lag with the button response time - might reinstall the image and hope that fixes it.

The Saorview transmitter that is near you is probably different from the frequency in the tuner config in that image so you would need to change that.

Since satellite channel frequencies change from time to time it's a good idea to know how to configure tuners and how to scan satellite and terrestrial channels.

It might be easier to do a "free to air only" scan yourself then if you use DreamBoxEdit you could sort them into whatever order you want and make your own bouquets (favourite lists). You can also use it to make a backup of your channel lists.

My image has Terrestrial channels tuned to Three Rock. If your local transmitter is different, then you'll need to re-tune

Thanks Flex & championc - re-tuned with settings for my local transmitter, up and running now.

championc - system is much more responsive today after rebooting, navigation is a lot better. FYI I tried out Icefilms & RTE Player and the few times I selected a show to watch the box crashed and rebooted. Screen went green and the message 'Your STB encountered a software problem' - send it to someone who care :-)

Should I be receiving the HD channels of ITV2,3,4 & Channel 5, E4, More4? In your image you have under favourites you have a folder High Definition, where I can view the BBC's & Channel 4 HD channels only?

    Thanks folks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭championc

ITV2, 3 & 4 in HD are only available as encrypted channels. The SD ones are Free to Air.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

Thanks championc, I found a post in the Satellite forum listing what channels I should receive.

Happy out with that image, only issues really are with Icefilms & RTE Player. Are these running ok for you?

The judder on Sky Sports channels was very bad yesterday .
Very disappointing that there will seemingly be no fix for this .

Using Spark is the only fix unfortunately. There is also the temporary fix for some, using the AutoResolution plugin and changing the refresh rate to 25hz on a 1080p TV.

You actually chose watching it in SD on E2 over switching to Spark to watch it in HD?

Lots of people have migrated over to Spark since the judder issue, and unlike E2 it only take minutes to set up fully!

Of course I went straight to E2 also, but I had Spark set up as a back up too in case things went wrong, as it's far more reliable and stable.

To be honest. I am fed up turning the box on and off. I seem to be doing it 5 times a day because one of the plug ins freezes. I dont want to turn it off at all if I can help it :D

Also for some reason I only have Sky Sports in SD on Spark. I have done a re scan of the channels a couple of times in Spark but it only ever gets to 86% and then seems to stop. I have upgraded to the newer version of Spark but still get the same issue. It means that I am not getting the full amount of channels as the channel list reverts back to what I had before I did the scan.

I prefer to use Enigma as I use TSMedia a LOT. If I can get the channel scan to 100% in Spark I will use that to watch TV and then use Enigma for TS Media. I suppose at least that way I will only have turn the box off and on once a day.

    On which image ?

Telnet to the box when it freezes up and at the prompt, type TOP. It will show the CPU and Memory usage.

Somethings wrong there, you can receive any channel you get on E2 on Spark. I can upload a full Spark channel list if you like to try.

You should be able to get to 100% of course. Try a factory reset from the setup menu and try again. Also you can boot between the menus from Spark and E2 so you don't even have to get up to switch the box off and on.

Lots of things keeps me on E2, like the Autobouquets plugin. I don't want to be doing that sh1t manually. Also, Spark has nothing similar to CoolTVGuide or autotimers. E2 passes the Missis test, Spark doesn't. I can live with SD, I just want to see the game, Sport is all I watch

Spark isnt bad ,it is better than I expected but when used to Enigma 2 its hard to go back.
It's much easier to create channel bouquets on Enigma 2 and update channel listings .

Is Crossepg on Spark and Enigma 2 compatible i.e can you use the same files or do they need to be re downloaded ?

    .

I am having a bit of trouble getting all the channels on Spark also. I would love to try an alternative channel list if you have one.

    Much appreciated.

Of course, the plugins are what makes E2 so good, it's so customizable and very easy to use. I don't watch much TV, it's just all sport I watch, and I would trade the plugins for the HD channels in Spark. I mean, I wish I didn't have to choose but it's an either/or at the moment. Fortunately the 'boot to Spark/Enigma' from the menus has bridged the gap somewhat.

You can use the same data but from what I've heard it's better to keep them both separate to avoid potential issues, that's what I do.

No problem, I'll upload one this evening and PM it to you.

Its a HDMU image that I put on the box in June (I will check the exact name of it when I get home).

The box freezes when I use certain plugins. I get the White screen with the red writing. I will Telnet to the box next time it happens though.

Thanks for the offer. I have a full Spark Channel list that I got from another site a couple of weeks back. It just seems to be that when Spark is searching for channels it gets stuck at 86%. I have downgraded and upgraded the version of Spark I have but it is still the same issue.

I had all the channels on Spark up to about 6 weeks ago so I havnt a clue what went wrong. I can do a full channel search on the Enigma side

Could you tell me how to boot between the Spark and Enigma menus? I cant say I have ever seen that option. Thanks

In Spark to boot to E2 go to, MENU - BASIC SETTING - FACTORY DEFAULT - BOOT TO E2

In Enigma2 it varies by image, for HDMU (recent versions) just press MENU - STANDBY/RESTART - RESTART TO SPARK

Cool. Thanks for that. I will try it when I get home.

I'm getting to like Spark ,the TV Wall is really cool.

Only thing it's really missing is a multi epg where you can see what is on different channels at the same time .

Yeh, it just takes a bit of getting use to, but it's actually not bad. And it more than makes up for itself by being incredibly reliable and stable.

I have it set up so that when I press the 'OK' button on the remote it brings up a 'what's on now' view of the current favorites which is is very useful.
