Yeh it really changes the whole Spark experience! I'm not even fussed about a 7 day EPG, I just like to be able to see what's on now at a glance on all channels.

The box is out just over a year. The first few months on Spark were very painful. Looks like it's finally getting a bit functional !!

It promised alot and delivered nothing so there was no alternative to E2 until recently. Even now, I don't expect Spark would be mentioned if it wasn't for the juddering.

Yeh, it just takes a bit of getting use to, but it's actually not bad. And it more than makes up for itself by being incredibly reliable and stable.

I just loaded the latest Spark image there too, by pressing the '>' right key from your screenshot above, it gives you what's on next for the satellite channels and for the terrestrial channels it gives you the programmes for the next few hours.

NUTZZ, I see you have the time and date on the top left, how did you get that? Mine comes up with just TV List in the banner.

Navigating thru' Spark is a lot smoother, whereas the few HDMU images I have loaded, I have had to reboot a few times as the box had a tendency to freeze.

    So you haven't tried OpenAR-P then ?

I didn't do anything to get the time and date there, I assumed it was just standard on the GUI? I do have the time setting changed from 'Satellite' to 'Net' but I doubt that has any bearing.

Spark is completely reliable, no reboots and no freezes as you'd expect from a closed source operating system.

Yeah - I tried your image championc but I found it froze at times going from a terrestrial channel to a satellite where I had to reboot.

Had similar issues with Icefilms & RTE player where the box would crash and reboot.

This is still new to me, so trying a few different things to gain an understanding of the box. I have another week or so before I introduce it to the family!

Could you explain how you did that?

There's nothing to it really, just press the 'OK' button and the press the arrow right button until you get to that screen above. I leave it on that screen so anytime I press the OK button it gives me a list of what's on now in the current favorites list I'm on.

i want to purchase this amiko alien 2+, there isnt much negitives about using it. ive one question about it though.
i want to set it up view saorview and get free sat and have epg for both feeds.
Is it possible to one seemless interactions with the two, what i mean is can i have rte on channel 1 rte2 on ch2, bbc1 on channel 3, bbc2 on channel3 and so on.
or do i have switch between the two feeds?

Yes, it's seamless. Both Saorview and satellite listed together together with a single, integrated EPG. You can mix and match terrestrial and satellite channels as you wish.

See the picture I posted above to give you an idea. You can arrange the channels in any order you like, Saorview and satellite channels combined.

another question, what do people prefer spark or enigma2? alot of people seem to like enigma2 more. what is the development support like for this os?
    is any other OS avialable?

Enigma2 is open source with a large userbase, so it tends to be more flexible with a larger variety of plugins available. The ability to pull down the 7-day Freesat EPG is built into many E2 images.

Spark is closed, so is arguably more stable but less flexible. The CrossEPG plugin which pulls down the Freesat/Sky EPG has really only come into its own on Spark with the last few image updates.

In any case, you can install both Spark and Enigma2 simultaneously on the same box and boot into either. You can see then which best suits your circumstances.

Done a scan on spark yesterday and when I turned off the box and back on later all the channels were gone(no file). Scanned again and got them all back. Turned it off again and I have the same issue with no channels tuned. I was using the enigma image from championc and not really using spark so never had a problem before. Any ideas?

What firmware are you on? Are you sure you're saving the channels that are scanned when it completes or just hitting the 'exit' button?

I have Championc and loving it. Got it from you at satstation. Also got the Permanent Timeshift working. Gift! A few of the plugins won't install but not really bothered, do you know of any plugins that will work for ip cameras. I'd like to be able to view my ip cameras here at the house on my tv through my alien 2. Thanks

Good auld Satstation. Surprised you managed to get it there because they didn't like me slagging off HDMU so they banned me from their forum !!!

I installed it from the plugins and then just make sure your recording path is going to a file named timeshift on your HDD. That's all i done and she worked away. Try that and let me know.

I found 2 links - the first of which doesn't seem to be working right now

    http://schpuntik.dyndns.org/feed/alien2/ipkextras/enigma2-plugin-extensions-webcamviewer_1.1-r2_sh4.ipk

    http://feed.newnigma2.to/unstable/4.0/mips32el/enigma2-plugin-extensions-webcamviewer_3.999+git4713+adeaef9-r0_mips32el.ipk

Just remember that OpenAR-P is Python 2.7 (not 2.6). Also, sometimes it's better to extract the ipk files and FTP them rather than doing an IPKG INSTALL ......

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on

No I am saving the channels.
    Version 1.2.51
    Dbase Version 1.10
    Kernal 2.632-00
    Uboot 1.1002-4
I went onto the spark homepage and put in my STBID to get the correct latest software for my box. When I try to update is says incorrect file:(

Thats strange I tried again just now with the same file on the USB and it worked.

Enigma2 support seems to have vanished from that site.

Working perfectly now, thanks. Don't know what I was doing wrong before!

Edit:working now apart from getting a green screen when changing channel number eg. Keying in 401.

Are you not able to do the online software update via the box?

1.2.68 is the latest firmware, load that on and see how you get on.

Yeah, they're concentrating more on Spark now.

They're not really choosing to concentrate on Spark, it's more of a case that a major issue with some non-FTA HD channels has surfaced and they're now wiping their hands completely of E2 as it doesn't look like a fix is coming.

I have no problem with them saying Spark is the only supported firmware on the box, but if that's the case they really shouldn't be advertising E2 so predominantly as a feature of this box on their store.

And the worst part is they are banning people (a lot, including moderators) for even mentioning that there is a issue, completely unprofessional.
